To add to the psychological side I would like to add this comment from Herbie: "He would make Sigmund Freud run for the hills."

That clearly, is your own interpretation of Perry's statements regarding it. While you may or may not be correct, let's try to get away from you stating something as fact by using phrases such as "almost certainly" in your delivery. The *most* I have heard Perry discuss regarding this, (which is no more or less than anyone else here, save for Lora....is Steve saying that he was "toast". That can be interpretted in a TON of different ways....whether "toast" is physical issues, psychological issues, both issues or none of the above....is something left to the imagination and interpretation of the listener.

I encourage people to come to their own opinions regarding this, instead of listing to your statements presented as fact, when you're as much in the dark as anyone. Perhaps, someday, Lora can give us a little more than what's already out there....but until then, no one knows for certain regarding Perry's reasons for leaving Journey in the 80s and 90s...not me, not you, not Arnel, etc,etc

"AP just CONFIRMED a fact that most of us already knew...SP had physical issues that prevented him from continuing with Journey during ROR.

 :!:"

Steve Perry said why he cut short the ROR (Though they finished most of the tour). He said he was toast and he was grieving over his mother's death. Steve Perry said why he didn't tour for Trial by Fire. He needed a hip replacement. So the tour didn't happen. No big secret. Now, why he hasn't chosen to record in the last 12 years is the question.

Yes but...my point is that AP said Perry "bailed" (meaning left on his OWN accord) because he "got sick". Now, that implies that it was the ROR tour (recall, SP initiated the ending of that tour saying he was "toast"). My point is that AP is implying that SP was sick and THAT prompted him to "bail". This was way prior to the hip thingy...

Hmmm....

:? :?:

Arnel is hardly an authoritative source for this. When Steve Perry left in 97 and in 87, Arnel had zero contact with Journey, Journey's management or anyone in the US music industry.

What Arnel may or may not say and/or imply regarding these events is heresay...and his heresay is either fueled by what Fucka, Fro others within the band *told* him to say OR his own assumption into the matter.

Nothing more, nothing less.

To try to draw out the real reasons behind Perry's depature in the 80s and the 90s, from something Arnel has said (or was encouraged to say) is at the very least, silly, and the very most, dangerously idiotic.

A few points.

1) SP didn't leave in 1997. The band moved on without him.
2) AP is IN THE BAND...he may know a thing or two you and I DON'T about SP.
3) What is "dangerously idiotic" about what I brought up?

They had reasons to do so, right? The problem here is not many people know what said reasons were. Perry nor Journey has ever remained consistent here. What makes you or anyone else here feel obligated, enriched or privleged enough to know said reasons when the band and perry himself can't get it straight?

Tomulator wrote:

How? Does he have an open dialog with Steve Perry? Neal Schon admits that the only way he can contact Perry is through agents and lawyers. How on earth can Arnel claim to have any understanding of Perry's reasons behind his intentions towards Journey 10 years before he was even invited into the band, when the person he's employed by can't get an audience with the person unless there's a lawyer present in the room?!!?

Sorry, that doesn't compute.

Tomulator wrote:3) What is "dangerously idiotic" about what I brought up?

Jumping to conclusions such as the idea that Arnel has inside information into Perry's reasons for leaving the band 10 and/or 20 years prior to Arnel's involvement in the band....is idiotic.

Saint John wrote:Your wind-bag response wasn't even logical, Frank. The guy said that it all became too much. If that doesn't scream that his relationship going down the shitter coupled with his mother's death beat his ass emotionally, I don't know what to tell you, man. As for his voice, just listen to the beginning of the tour and the end. He was out of gas. You're now entrenched in your position and you're not going to budge...I can see that. Being proven wrong just isn't good enough for you sometimes. I'm ok with that.

PS I find it hilarious how you've all but called Lora a liar in the past and coined the names "bullhorns" (which I love...sorry, Lora   ) and "The Insane Asylum" but now you conveniently use her to aid your argument? Sorry, bud, it doesn't work that way.

We're talking about different things here. Sorry, I've got logic on my side on this one....

I have always felt it necessary to attack what Perry releases to the public (whether it be through lora or others) because I don't feel the guy has the capacity to tell the truth. He has never told the same story twice...about his hip injury in 97 or anything else related to it. I am questioning the veracity of his statements...not the reasons for his actions.

It is entirely different to question the justification you are using to support your statements. You have zero ability to attest to Perry's state of mind or his reasons for doing what he's doing, save for what you are trying to deduce from his statements...especially given the quote you've produced above...ABSOLUTELY nothing in that quote can suggest physical OR psychological issues with any difinitive support. What you are attesting to, is an assumption. Your own interpretation of what he stated.

Your assertions are to Perry's state of mind...for both his 87 shutdown and his 97 sit on his hands. In both cases, you are jumping to assumptions as to the reasons behind his actions. You don't know, I dont know, and 99.99% of the people here don't know.

Lora may very well know what the truth is with all that has to do with Steve Perry and the world he resides in. That's not the issue I've raised in the past. It's whether or not there's truth to what Perry has said in official statements, that has me scratching my head. Whether or not Lora's cognizant of the truth (despite what Perry tells her) when relaying Perry news, is something I refuse to touch...because I would be shitting out of my mouth if I said I had a feeling on it one way or another.

There's only one thing to do to find out...Cyndy and Lora start talking. What do you know?

Actually, Journey (past & present members & Nightmare, Inc. employees in the know) should have someone write a book about this sh-t. Get everybody's side and let each fan decide what the f-ck happened. Waive the gag orders and let it rip. A good starting point would be the roster of (what was to be) appreciation threads I had and expand from there.

Point(s) taken, Frank. But if you don't think it's logical to deduce that the death of your mother and the loss of a longtime girlfriend in a short period of time wouldn't put psychological strain on you then you're another one that would "send Freud to the hills, screamin' and rippin' out his hair." Couple that with being on the road, a voice that was slowly betraying you with each show, having "other" issues and you have the perfect recipe for being "toast." I have made my assumptions about 1996 very clear in the past...no need to rehash. I'm with Herbie on that one.

Tito has "Frontiers and Beyond" memorized, guys. He knows every person on the entire cassette..everyone. We're backstage in 1998 and there's a guy walking down the hall...big, sorta mean looking black guy. Tito yells in my fucking ear at about 2 billion decibels "That's Wolfman Black!!!" After my hearing came back I asked him exactly who in the fuck "Wolfman Black" was. He reminded me about Frontiers and Beyond and it rang a bell. I think I called out his name, he turned around, and I snapped a picture...so Tito would leave me the fuck alone!!! He'll remember the story better than me, though.

PS My ear still hurts to this day when I think about that encounter.

We also met that Irish "Albert Einstein" looking guy ("The snow is real" guy from Frontiers and Beyond). Tito spotted him as soon as we walked into the stadium. Talked to him while he was setting up the stage. Guy did a few too many drugs I think. Really nice guy, though.

This (autograph b.s.)has become exaggerated and slanderous as a presidental campaign. I did NOT ask for Wolfman's autograph. As a matter of fact, I never he saw him. You were the one who saw him and took his picture. The only guy I pointed out was the "Snow is real" guy to you.

It would be something else that you have to get signed

Depends on who the author is.

When has that ever fucking mattered?!?!? Weren't you the fucking guy trying to coax me into having "Wolfman Black" sign something in 1998?!?!?!
do tell

That's funny too, but I thought you meant he got Wolfman Jack's name mixed up.

News flash!!!! (for those of you living under a rock)

The band doesn't do that.

It's a sad fact. Neal doesn't *do* family. He doesn't want a singer on the road with a family in tow....otherwise they would have arranged for Arnel's family to come along from the onset.

It's sad, and I agree with Brywool's comments on RS's page....for the sake of the band, they need to try to get his family out on the road.

I dunno, the tone of this article sounds very, um....dark. Is that just me or do others see that too?

This is unfair. First, this is out of Journey's control. They probably had to pull some favors to even get Arnel over so quickly. I'm sure if Arnel's family had green cards or was over here they would be on the road with him...at times but not all the time. Second, he is just homesick. Everyone goes through it whether it be moving out of town for a new job or going away to school for the first time. He will be better next time. Third, what will his or anybody's family do out on the road all the time. It would get boring real quick. Tight schedules yet a lot of down time. At least the band has a souncheck and concert to do and throw in an occasion interview. The family only has to sit with their thumbs up their @ss. An occassional visit is fine to say hi and all, but a whole tour would drive the family batty. Finally, Neal is a good father and tries to do family.

I think I threw them out recently, thinking I wouldn't be needing them. :(

We did not see the Albert Einstein guy. "Snow is real" guy is someone else.

You are correct. See...I told you, everyone. Fucker knows them better than the cast of The Brady Bunch.
