Regardless, Go ahead and admire Arnel. But to do so because he's 'coping', despite all of this 'adversity' he seems to be experiencing, doesn't logically fit with your comment that the big boys are 'so' wonderful...eh?

Neal loves his kids. But the road is not the place for kids and again it would be boring after awhile for them. Plus, it would cost extra money to bring extra people along. I wouldn't grow up either if I was in his shoes. Most of us wouldn't. All in all, Neal has done well.

strangegrey wrote:Bullshit Dan. It's not a Job....if these guys, Schon especially, actually had to work a job for his money....he'd be the guy I step over (or kick) after I get off the train at Penn Station on my way to work. While there's no need to bring the wife and kids *involved* with the business of the band.....keeping the wife and kids on tour is not and SHOULD not be a problem.
Using your analogy more properly, you don't bring your wife and kids out on stage (during soundcheck or performance)...or into band meetings....but bringing them on tour is not and should not be considered bringing them to work. That's fucking laughable.
These wankers work 2-3 hours a night....not 8 hours a day.
strangegrey wrote:Personally, I don't think they're doing this properly. They never have. One of the many reasons this band can't keep certain positions filled for more than a few years. Sure, there's a bit of sucking it up and dealing....the fact remains that Arnel's voiced some valid concerns that the band should consider dealing with, if they want this lineup to last beyond the year. I personally think, if Arnel was disgruntled enough to voice his opinions to a reporter from RS...things are worse than we all can imainge. I have to wonder if Arnel's going to last in this band long enough for this rockumentary to actually get to Post....

See Neal is a good man. He takes care of his kids and his ex-wives (thanks to the f'd up laws, he's probably had to be too nice). He has tried. Would it be better if he was Gene Simmons and never got married but cheated on his longtime girlfriend or had an open relationship? That ain't healthy nor is it family values.

strangegrey wrote:Not speculation. I can tell you with some certainty, just how much of an artists time is requisite for the functions of the band. I've been around enough professional musicians, not just Journey, to comment authoritatively. The performance, the soundchecks, meet and greets (if applicable), media interviews (if applicable) and potentially business-band meetings...fall under that headline. 5-8 hours a day.... Granted, some of this stuff is spread out. But NOTHING in such a schedule should prevent a wife and kids from being on the bus or spending time nearby, while the artist does this sorta thing. Hell, artists have girlfriends out on tour that stay out of the way in these constraints....wtf can't family?!! The *onlY* reason, is because there's shit going on on tour that family presence would conflict with....i.e. banging french groupies, etc
Whether Arnel should accept that....or Neal's forcing it on the rest of the band (or just Arnel)....is a matter of opinion......but my argument is that if its the latter, Neal's going to find himself scouring youtube for another singer alot sooner than you and I might think...

Like you just said, 5 to 8 hours a day and spread out. That prevents/restricts them from doing things. Again, what will the family do all the day? Stare out the windows of the bus. zzzzzz.

Ick, but to tell ya the truth, Gene Simmons is probably a better bet in the relationship department.Doesn't drink, do drugs. He passed a lie detector test on his show that he hasn't cheated on Shannon. Before her is a whole other matter.

In Jeff Scott Soto's last interview I read this was stated:
"Did you witness any rock star moments?"
"There really aren't any crazy stories to tell. These guys are up there in years, so they play it safe when it comes to activity off the stage. They're all pretty mellow and family oriented, so it was a chill environment, almost too chill for me."
"Arnel makes me a better guy just knowing him" - Jonathan Cain

And what about the video for that song? With a lonely Jonathan looking sadly at the photo of his wife. Shoulda given Arnel a clue, huh.

I had a crush on her dad, actor Doug McClure, back when I was a kid. He was in a western TV series called The Virginian and he made a bunch of really terrible b-movies during his career. I actually got to meet him once at one of Tane's concerts back in the 80s.
