The Greek - 9/30

Postby StoneCold » Wed Oct 01, 2008 6:35 pm

The show was great and I continue to be very impressed with AP's voice. I sat next to a lady who didn't know who the "new singer" was and she was blown away. She'd seen Perry as far back as the Rolie days and the "curly haired guy" 5 years ago. :)

Towards the end of the show she said. "Wow, I didn't think he'd be that good. That was an awesome concert!"

And so it was. I specifically skipped Sunday's show since it was 3rd in 3 nights. I thought being last LA show, they'd go longer and integrate more new stuff. I was wrong. The set was the same as the Shoreline from 27th.

I don't understand why they keep playing FITH live. EVERYBODY sits down. This is a great driving or kickin back track but not for playing live no matter how well they play it. And they played it perfectly. Too long and not enough hooks.

Another disappointment was the single encore although I enjoyed LTS with AP. If Ross or Cain, it would've been off to the drink station. A big band like Journey needs to do a double encore.

All told though, I enjoyed this much more than the DL "co-headline" tour. CT and Heart were excellent.

Ann came in and sang part of OA which although good, unnecessary. I wanted to see how AP delivered certain parts in comparison with SP live. He's changin' up Faithfully a little so as not to sound exactly like the original. Would rather AP went into the Heart set and do the Mike Reno part of that heart song which I can't remember and am too lazy to look up.

Setlist

NWA
OTY
ssb / neal solo
SIL
ATL
KOR - Deen

AATY
WYLAW
CFTB
SW
FITH ( wish they'd swapped in WDILYL)

Lights
Jon solo
OA
Faithfully
DSB
WITS
Escape
AWYWI

encore
LTS

As for crowd reaction. Most were cool with CT and Heart but when Journey came out, as before, the apechit hit the fan. Everybody was on their feet.

All I can remember right now.

Great!

AP has always been a big fan of Heart so Ann's gesture must have meant much to him.

You're right, afterwards he knelt before her, thanked her and said she's been one of his biggest inspirations. In a previous concert I think he did sing in the Heart set so maybe she was reciprocating. Don't get me wrong, Ann was OUTSTANDING in her set and in OA.

I skipped over WYLAW a bit. There were instances where there seemed to be complete silence as the crowd listened to his delivery. It was THAT good. That's what I was hoping for with OA. OA's easier to critique and compare than the rockers.

Ha, that's it. Almost Paradise.

Heart was so good I wouldn't mind another tour with these same bands together. We'll just have to get on the Heart forums and tell them stop with the covers and play more Heart classics.

It's a terrible song and like you I don't understand why it's still in the setlist either.

And those 2 songs should be Separate Ways and Don't Stop Believin'. Not some sappy pseudo-love song.

Yep, put a couple other songs in the regular set, WDILYL, Still They Ride, a Rolie track etc and then blast into SW and DSB in the first encore.

2nd encore would be great with Walks Like A Lady (ooh, yeah!) :) and finish with LTS.

Houston, we have a problem. :P Just one encore, man. End with DSB while the place is still going nuts.

Pretty much the same setlist as Sunday night. When Arnel sang WLYLAW, The place just became intranced, sounds like the same thing happened last night. I believe it was 90 minutes total when I saw them with the one song encore. Arnel has to be running on fumes by now but at least he made it through.

It's awesome to see that the greatest female vocalist of all-time thinks enough of Arnel to join him for a song. That says more about the man's skills than any amount of slobbering bullshit the malcontents could ever spew.

No, I think it was a oneoff because your show was Heart's last one with Journey for this tour (I believe).

I thought it was a great show with the excption of Escape. I don't think it sounded very good. It was my 4th time seeing them, however it was the first time to hear Deen sing. Sounded great. There is a 11pm curfew at the Greek. That is why there was only a one song encore. If they go past 11, the venure and/or band get fined. That's the problem with a large outdoor venue in a residential area.

My son has played there when they had the L.A. High School battle of the bands there. He also had his Junior High Culmination and High School Graduation ceremonies there. It really is a great location, just the parking is screwed up with Stacked Parking. I live in Silver Lake so I had my son just drop us at the venue.

Peeps get bored and frisky moving at 2 mph trying to leave. There was a hummer next to me with a blonde halfway out the side rear window flashing her bodacious ta ta's. AND THEY WERE BODACIOUS (if ya know what I mean).

That sort of made up for no 2nd encore. :)
