A friend of mine told me about when she made the mistake of telling a friend that she'd be watching The Ring that night.
That friend told another friend who proceeded to call her when she'd finished watching it, whisper "Seven days" and hang up.

Same here - I find most of the slasher type movies ridiculous and sometimes comical, but not scary.
Had to really think about the few movies that have ever really frightened me (I don't scare easily).
A few that come to mind:
Burnt Offerings
The Omen
Black Christmas
and ditto to whoever said the original "The Haunting". That one scared the crap outta me as a very young child - but I think it also gave me my passion for good "horror" stories. Love a well-done vampire flick too.

One night on their way home from Grandma's there's a car crash. Everyone makes it out with the exception of the older one who gets stuck due to her shoe laces being tied together as a prank by her younger sister. To the family's complete horror the car catches fire and she burns to death. After the funeral the surviving sibling begins seeing her sister. Mayham ensues.
I was about ten when this movie came out. SCARED ME TO SHITS. It is unfortunately out of print, but if you're desperate you can buy a bootleg on ebay and the like. If you're cheap, you can watch the whole thing on YOU TUBE. I highly recommend this movie....

I particularly like the second one, the one that has Melissa Moore and Gail Harris.

I think it might have been from more around 1990 or 1991?

Don't really like films like "Saw" where the villains are lunatic humans...don't need to be reminded how sick/evil humans can be! Watched "Wolf Creek" and it was just disturbing!

I forgot about Wolf Creek!! That was a bit sick! I wonder if it really was a true story or if the guy actually killed the girls and made up the story? To this day I dont think they have found any evidence of that crazy Australian psycho...

You sure you don't mean the hit remake of 'Dawn' ?
The Day remake, which should've ridden the coattails of Dawn to box office success, was dumped straight to Blockbuster.
Awful.
Rapper Nick Cannon tries his darndest to become this era's Stepin Fetchit.
