A friend of mine told me about when she made the mistake of telling a friend that she'd be watching The Ring that night.
That friend told another friend who proceeded to call her when she'd finished watching it, whisper "Seven days" and hang up.

Heehee....that must've been the "thing to do", when you KNOW someone's watching this movie....

My Sister's teenage daughter wanted to have some friends over to watch some movies....not sure if it was Halloween; think it was....

Anyways, she said that they were all at Blockbuster, and saw "The Ring".....the girls were all trying to "out-tough/brave" each other....like, "Yeah, I heard about it; well, I know I won't be scared...." etc.

So, they got it....My sis saw the movie before, and was watching it from the other room; her daughter & the friends didn't know....
It was at the very beginning, when the girls in the movie saw the video for the 1st time.....RIGHT AFTER Jess and her friends watched it "in real time" in the movie, my Sis called the home # from her CELL PHONE....

Jess picked it up, and my Sis whispered "SEVEN DAAAAAAAAAAYS!!" and hangs up!

Jess SCREAMED HER HEAD OFF and couldn't breathe - she started crying!! My Sis came out and said it was HER; it was a JOKE!!

My sister is eeeeeeeeeeeeevil.............LOVE it!

Same here - I find most of the slasher type movies ridiculous and sometimes comical, but not scary.

Had to really think about the few movies that have ever really frightened me (I don't scare easily  ).
A few that come to mind:

Burnt Offerings
The Omen
Black Christmas
and ditto to whoever said the original "The Haunting". That one scared the crap outta me as a very young child - but I think it also gave me my passion for good "horror" stories. Love a well-done vampire flick too  .

Love Burnt Offerings. I own that one too!

The best scary movie of all time is an 80s made for TV movie called Don't Go to Sleep. Its about two sisters, one of whom gets all the attention. One night on their way home from Grandma's there's a car crash. Everyone makes it out with the exception of the older one who gets stuck due to her shoe laces being tied together as a prank by her younger sister. To the family's complete horror the car catches fire and she burns to death. After the funeral the surviving sibling begins seeing her sister. Mayham ensues.

I was about ten when this movie came out. SCARED ME TO SHITS. It is unfortunately out of print, but if you're desperate you can buy a bootleg on ebay and the like. If you're cheap, you can watch the whole thing on YOU TUBE. I highly recommend this movie....

I always liked watching Nosferatu, the silent version from 1922, on Halloween. Max Schreck still scares me to this day.

I think it might have been from more around 1990 or 1991?

I grew up watching "Sammy Terry" on Saturday and discussing it with friends in church. I prefer horror movies about aliens, bugs, or mutant...love vampires (even though Tom Cruise sucked)!

Don't really like films like "Saw" where the villains are lunatic humans...don't need to be reminded how sick/evil humans can be! Watched "Wolf Creek" and it was just disturbing!

I forgot about Wolf Creek!! That was a bit sick! I wonder if it really was a true story or if the guy actually killed the girls and made up the story? To this day I dont think they have found any evidence of that crazy Australian psycho...

Which one? We've had a few

Actually, they made a promo for the series 'Dexter' with the main actor sitting in an airport. A guy asks him where he's going, and he says 'Adelaide'.
'Adelaide? Why Adelaide'
'Mass murder capital of the southern hemisphere...'

Strangely enough, the ad got lots of complaints from SA. I thought it was funny...

You sure you don't mean the hit remake of 'Dawn' ?
The Day remake, which should've ridden the coattails of Dawn to box office success, was dumped straight to Blockbuster.

If I were single, or able to blow a whole day doing practically nothing, I would be sitting in a theater today watching the SAW marathon culiminating with the Midnight premiere of SAW V. The movies aren't for everyone, and I don't even rank them when thinking of "favorite horror movies" but I think the last two movies have done a good job with a story line and I am interested to see how it turns out. This is being reported as the last SAW movie so it something of an event.

I'm the same Rhi. But I love a great plot with lots of chilling suspense! I hate a see through plot. The more complex the better. I love the challenge. 1408 was good.
It was from a book that I read, the movie for once did the story justice.

The trailers might be playing up that angle, but SAW 6 is already in pre-production if I'm not mistaken.
SAW 3 was great, but 4 was too complicated for its own good.
I think the franchise is at the point of diminishing returns.

I had also heard there was going to be a part 6, but now the media is reporting that this is supposed to be the last. Who knows. You are correct that 3 was very good. I also thought 4 was okay. It's enough to make me want to be there, but not enough to make me regret not being there.

If they are in diminishing returns, it appears to have been a stronger longer ride than many other "franchises". These still seem to be anxiously awaited and heavily speculated.
