Agreed

The sad thing is with the exception of After all these years, People at the show I went to still tend to sit or get quiet during the new songs. Everybody still wants to hear the songs from the eighties and wouldn't even miss it if the band didn't play any thing from 1988 forward.

True but even the 80's songs were 'new' at some point. The new stuff will catch on if they keep putting it our there

The casual J fans that I know here and those that went to their concert up at the Lake all said they bought Revelations to hear Arnel sing the re-recorded hits. They had no interest in listening to the new songs.

That's odd. You would think that people would be as interested, if not more interested in the new stuff that they've not heard yet. In my situation, I wanted to hear the new stuff more. A matter of fact, I've not even played the re-recordings CD or the DVD that came in the new album yet, and I purchased this thing when it was pretty fresh out on the shelves in the store. I have however played the heck out of the cd with all the new tracks on it though. :D

Yeah, there are many facets to the J fandom. I just think those casual fans that went to the concert to check out Arnel liked him and wanted to hear more of Arnel singing those hits that SP originated. They're not the devoted kind that hangs around messageboards, though.

I was under the impression only 200,000 were initially manufactured, so another run has clearly been done along the line.

I'll get the exact Soundscan figure as of this week sent to me tonight.

The actual facts are - 500,000 initially manufactured. 450,000 went to Wal Mart. 50,000 went to Journey. Wal Mart has NOT sold 450,000 copies. I don't know how else to explain this!

According to Hits Daily Double Journey has sold roughly 478,000 units and I don't think this counts units moved on the road or the mp3 player. Definitely over 500,000:

wk 1- #5 - 107,562 units sold June 9, 2008

wk 2- #6 - 94,648 units sold June 16, 2008

wk 3- #11 - 36,995 units sold June 23, 2008

wk 4- #28 - 28,892 units sold June 30, 2008

wk 5- #19 - 24,434 units sold July 7, 2008

wk 6- #17 - 23,642 units sold July 14, 2008

wk 7- #17 - 26,931 units sold July 21, 2008

wk 8 - #21 - 21,907 units sold July 28, 2008 (365,011)

wk 9 - #26 - 17,131 units sold August 4, 2008 (382,142)

wk 10 - #35 - 13,438 units sold August 11, 2008 (395,580)

wk 11 - #33 - 13,277 units sold August 18, 2008 (408,857)

wk 12 - #29 - 13,330 units sold August 25, 2008 (422,187)

wk 13 - #30 - 12,968 units sold Sept 1, 2008 (435,155)

wk 14 - #37 - 11,918 units sold Sept 8, 2008 (447,073)

wk 15 - #36 - 12,792 units sold Sept 15, 2008 (459,865)

wk 16 - Revelation is not on top 50 list. Reports surface that Wal Mart reported a day late and sales were around 9,000.

wk 17 - #48 - 9,850 units sold Sept 29, 2008

wk 18 - Revelation is not on top 50 list Oct 6, 2008

Then that can't be Wal Mart only sales. It has to include sales figures from the tour.

Maybe the loaded MP3 players and digital downloads also count toward the total, I have no idea how many sales that would be though.

450,000 shipped to Wal Mart, 50,000 for retail on tour, etc. I don't think digital downloads count as physical record sales. I'm no RIAA auditor though...This was mentioned in my publishing agreement that included the digital content but I don't remember how many it was. I think maybe only 5,000.

When it was obvious several months ago that more needed to be printed I'm sure they had them printed!!! Why is this so hard to figure out? :? I'm sure what you're saying was correct at the time, but their forecasts were obviously way off on the low end.

I fully expect to see your lips firmly planted on Schon's ass sometime soon. They should hire you.

The digital downloads do count as album sales -- which is one reason why you can't download each song individually from Wal-Mart. Only the entire album can be purchased. Each Journey-branded mp3-player also counts as a single album sold.

The Hits Daily Double figures only had to be off by 4% in order to go from 960,000 (the last reported guesstimate) to 1,000,000 (for platinum certification). They are preliminary numbers -- I'm guessing they miss some sales.

If the HDD numbers did not include the tour sales or mp3 player sales, then we're almost assuredly over 1,000,000.

Because I'm able to make simple assumptions? Fuck, when they sold over 200,000 units in the first 2 weeks I'm quite sure they probably realized that they were going to eventually need more than 500,000. Go have a fucking beer, dude. You're angry when you're sober.

It takes about 2 weeks typically from initial order to complete fulfillment to manufacture and ship more units. Entirely possible a second run was pressed.

Going to check with the money folks and get the official word on this. If so, woo hoo for Journey and for me, but I just don't see Wal Mart moving more than 450,000 copies of this thing.

Again, depends on if we're counting numbers shipped or numbers sold. Doesn't have to mean 450k went through a scanner at a checkout. Backstock, inventory, online ordering... meh, who knows... but if so, woo hoo indeed. :)

I posted this a few days ago:

I just spoke to Kevin Shirley via e-mail and he confirms that it has indeed sold enough to be certified platinum. Here are his words verbatum: "Well, it has sold enough to be certified platinum. Each of these sales is actual, real and valid. There are 2 audio discs, which doubles the count. And while some might take issue with that, it's the criteria everyone operates with. So, this is a platinum album."

10-4. Then those are definitely packages from a remounted run sitting on shelves. Thanks, must've missed that the first time.

I have gotten info this morning from a source closer to the situation than Kevin Shirley....I'll keep quiet on the subject now, but projections by some here may have been based on some optimistic projections for the holiday sales season...

Anyway, when this does happen, there will be some official word released from Journey, I am sure.

Incorrect. He merely mentioned that it "has passed 500,000 units sold in the USA, making the album Platinum status according to RIAA accreditation standards." There's no mention of it being certified.

That is correct. We all await official word....

Sorry. Andrew's word is good enough for me though.

Between my regular 8-5 workday yesterday, and the 14 hours I've been here (9pm til now) saving my boss' ass on a big project for a client that is due in 11 minutes... I'm sleep deprived, and for all intents and purposes, checked out. I think this was a funny... but I'll have to get back to you on that. Women are wrong all the time! Haven't you ever listened to any country music? :P

Great news! I hope Journey uses their newly achieved platinum status -- plus the current position of "After All These Years" at #10 on the Billboard Hot AC chart -- for even bigger and better things. AATY is just 3 positions away from Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" and 6 positions away from Sara Bareilles's "Love Song". That's pretty remarkable, given the popular attention for these more contemporary acts.

"After All These Years" is #9 on the AC Chart this week.

Billboard will update tomorrow and calls the same chart HOT AC, but I don't know why since "After All These Years" was only "Going For Adds" at HOT AC a month ago and I never saw any ADDS.

Do AC charts really mean anything. Most of Journey's hits were on the regular pop charts. If you're on the AC chart but not the pop chart does that mean you are not in the top 100 overall sales? When Open Arms was number two on the charts, that was against everybody regardless of style of music, right?
