I don't give a Cain's ass about what you type. You really should think about what you say before you hit the "submit" button...and be sure that the idea you're trying to convey won't be misconstrued by others.
I look at the "Modes of Transportation" thread and noticed that on page one, you edited yourself a total of SEVEN times!...Obviously you have freedom of speech AND freedom of modifying everything you say. That's one confusing thread if you're just jumping in for the first time.

I think that's more the case.

While I don't think, in civil terms, we've lost our freedom to speech...what has happened, is that sensitivity has bubbled to rediculous levels, which has created a dreadfully low threshold for discussions that may be offensive or offputting to a minority.


Back 20 years ago, you could say anything and very little could be labeled as 'not apropriate to say.' These days, that list is so much larger, that people are forced to watch what they say in all walks....

My father was 100% right about PC. He labelled it a type of speech-control. It's a subtractive way to limit the freedom of speech, without actually lowering the threshold at the civil level.

Good points...however the point I was making is that by establishing some unspoken policy re:PC, you mandate a certain speach.

I like to say "Freedom of Speech isnt free. You pay for every little thing you say" That allows people to self govern how they speak. By establishing some 'decency bar' set by some political or social group....your undercutting the ability for speech to work itself out on its own....

Could you imagine a show like "All in the Family" or "The Jefferson's" on in this day and age. People back then knew it was art imitating life. Everybody knew an Archie type in the circle of family or friends. It didn't make it right but there was no harm in laughing at Archie's slanted view of the world. Those shows taught tolerance, not so much by focusing on the main characters but the action and dialogue of the supporting cast.

Now day's a show like that would be boycotted and have it's sponsors pulled. Freedom of speech is boxed into a package now that you aren't supposed to break the boundary of, less you offend the authors of the Politically correct content that is stuffed in the box.
