OT-GNR single sent to radio stations

Postby Angiekay » Thu Oct 23, 2008 12:31 am

I haven't heard if we've gotten this yet or not, but I guess they FINALLY(maybe) set an album release date of November 23rd. (for those who care anymore of course)

One full decade after an official new Guns N' Roses song was last released, the band has sent the title track of its upcoming album, Chinese Democracy, to radio stations nationwide. A 50-second snippet was made available to stations on Tuesday (October 21st), with the full track arriving on Wednesday morning (October 22nd). This is the first new Guns N' Roses song to be submitted for airplay since 1998, when "Oh My God" was released as part of the soundtrack to the movie End of Days. As for the long overdue Chinese Democracy album, all signs indicate that it will be released on November 23rd exclusively through Best Buy.

A track listing for Chinese Democracy was posted at BestBuy.com, although a pre-order option that briefly appeared was later taken off.
According to Billboard.com, sources who have heard the album say that it opens with a "blood-curdling Axl Rose scream."
Two different covers will apparently be available, along with CD and vinyl versions.
Chinese Democracy has been in the works since the mid-'90s, with speculation and mystery surrounding the album's 13-year journey, ever-changing roster of players and spiraling recording costs. Eleven of the CD's 14 songs have either been performed live or leaked online during that time.

I've heard the leaked demos and wouldn't all that impressed by them. However, I'm sure the final versions would be better. I think it's about time this gets leaked. Now, for those of you who said Chinese Democracy would be released before any Steve Perry albums would be released........................................................................good call!

Shackler's Revenge, the single released through Rock Band 2, is a pretty bad song. Not expecting much. Slash was G'n'R

I am hearing that the release date has now been moved to Nov. 25th.

I like what I hear of the song, but I can hear it getting old pretty quick.

I like most of the leaked stuff...a lot, actually.

But given that there's supposedly 100 songs floating around, I was kind of hoping they'd have more actual 'new' songs on the LP. Yes, it sucks that a bunch of tunes were leaked, but you sit on recordings for that many years (that had literally dozens of players, producers, etc involved with) and what do you expect?

I'm still a massive Axl/Gn'R fan and I'll get the vinyl version of this, but I was hoping some of the lesser leaked tracks would be pushed in favor of things no one had heard yet (or the album expanded into a double LP).

i think axl waited way to long and the wrong time to release this.i'm a pretty big fan of the band but waiting until the economy is the worst its been in decades and sales are down is a real big question mark to me.yes this will be released right in time for christmas and thats good but people won't be spending as much because of how bad the market is right now.not to mention i have almost every song on this CD already due to leaks.i'll still buy this album and i look forward to it but i think if he would've released this back in 1998 or maybe 2003 the response would've been greater and sales would've been also.i think he might've waited just a lil bit too long and a lot of people have moved on but it still will probably sell a half million the first week and debut at number one.i do hope he releases a stronger song as the first single because if he doesn't grab peoples attention with it with the first single they might lose interest in further checking the album out.it will be interesting the next few years to see if he keeps this new version of the band or opts for a reunion eventually.my best bet is he sees all that money for a reunion and goes for it......

Agreed....this thing could've come out in 2002 when there was a huge buzz (despite the horrible MTV performance) and done really well, I think. The missed opportunity of the decade, for sure.

I really don't care for GNR at all. A couple good songs and that's it for me.

I'd be more excited for a solo album from Aldo Nova's bassist (if that's obscure enough)

definitely.if he would've released this right around the time he made that appearance he could've generated some buzz for the album.the strange thing is this thing is supposed to be released in little more than a month and to me there doesn't seem to be any real chatter or promotion at all.i mean there is no MTV spots or big magazine articles at all.if this album does fail that'll be his sole reason is because it wasn't promoted or pushed enough.just wait and see.then he'll reunite the band and that will be his big comeback.....

A recent study shows that most people prefer the taste of fresh dog shit to the sound of Axl Rose singing. You really cant call it singing anyway.

Don't hold your breath on that one!

But you know, how many other great melodic rock acts out there could be very successful with they were promoted by MTV?

Best Buy and Geffen Records have finally made an official announcement confirming that the long-delayed Guns N' Roses album, Chinese Democracy, will be released exclusively through Best Buy on November 23rd. The 14-song set will be available on CD, vinyl, and as a download. While singer Axl Rose has remained silent, co-managers Irving Azoff and Andy Gould said in a statement, "The release of Chinese Democracy marks a historic moment in rock n' roll. We're launching with a monumental campaign...that matches the groundbreaking sound of the album itself. Guns N' Roses fans have every reason to celebrate, for this is only the beginning."

Best Buy Senior Entertainment Officer Gary Arnold added, "Chinese Democracy is one of the most highly anticipated albums in music history, and Best Buy is thrilled to deliver this explosive and previously elusive release to Guns N' Roses fans...Axl Rose is one of the most dynamic and gifted writers and performers in modern music. Best Buy is excited to work with Axl to make the release of Chinese Democracy THE musical event of 2008!"
Pre-orders for the album began at BestBuy.com on Wednesday (October 22nd)

Scroll halfway down the page to listen to it. I have to say that I'm not too impressed. I wonder if the rest of album sounds this bad?

No, if it fails it will be because most of the world stopped buying CD's awhile ago before Axl could get his damn album out.

MTV couldn't sell this album even if they tried...you think people who listen to hard rock still watch MTV? Even radio is mostly a dead end these days. I'm not sure how they're going to sell this thing besides just touring the crap out of it, which with Axl, is always a sketchy proposition.

i still remember when appetite first came out and it took a year to even start getting popular.my brother said listen to this new band and said he couldn't figure out why they weren't doing that well and of course they started touring with aerosmith and then welcome to the jungle was released but even then that video took a while to catch on.then of course sweet child of mine was the one that really started making the band huge probably a year later in the summer of 1988.well of course while appetite was still hot they released lies and both these albums were in the top 5 and no band had two top five albums since the beatles.well about three years later they released use your illusion 1 and 2 and had two more top five albums again.no band was more greater than guns n roses around this time period and of course 1993 and the spaghetti incident was the last full album and even that was cover tunes so this will be the first original material since the fall of 1991 when illusions was released.what other band has done something like this and leave at the peak of its success and fire all band members only to release new material fifteen years later? and of course i don't know if the fifteen year wait will be worth it but i'll be buying it the day it hits stores.my main wish is for a reunion but we will see.....

Dr Pepper making good

Postby Angiekay » Sat Oct 25, 2008 12:27 am

The manufacturer of the Dr. Pepper soft drink is making good on an offer to provide a free can of soda to every person in the U.S. if the new Guns N' Roses album, Chinese Democracy, were to come out before the end of 2008. With the disc now scheduled to arrive on November 23rd, the soda company has issued details of its offer. According to Billboard.com, fans who visit DrPepper.com on the date of the record's release can register online and receive a coupon good for one 20-ounce Dr. Pepper, good wherever the drink is sold. The coupon will only be available for 24 hours and will expire on February 28th.

Dr. Pepper marketing vice president Tony Jacobs said in a statement, "We never thought this day would come. But now that it's here all we can say is: The Dr. Pepper's on us."

That's actually VERY cool of Dr. Pepper.

I like the way they are limiting it. That will save a few bucks while not losing face.

I don't care much for Dr. Pepper but I will likely take advantage!

Chinese Democracy the song isn't very good. Sounds like a 1999 ripoff of a Nine Inch Nails song.

Shacklers Revenge is the worst song I've heard in a long long long time. I heard Shackler's Revenge yesterday for the 1st time while playing Rockband 2. I must say it was the 1st time I've been in the mood to play the game, played 1 track and wanted to turn the game and system off.

That song is the worst song I've heard in a real long time. I mean I'd rather listen to Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, Britney Spears, cats wailing into a microphone with the volume turned all the way up and my balls in a clamp then listen to that song again.

Somebody should've told Axl to scrap the crap and get the old band back together. Chinese Democracy is five minutes of my time I'm never getting back. What sucks is that the whole album is probably just as bad, yet the hype is going to make this platinum on the day of release.
