Barry Manilow is a fucking pimp, dude. Still plays about a hundred shows a year and sometimes 5 nights in a row. He took care of his voice.

As you may or may not know, "Mandy" is a remake of a 1971 British single called "Brandy", written and recorded by Scott English. A sample of the record is on Barry's Box Set {The Complete Collection and Then Some...,1992}. It's an up-tempo R&B sounding song that was very popular in England for all of two seconds. During its rise up the British charts, a reporter called Mr. English, and asked him who the song was about. It was about 7:00 am, and Scott was still half asleep. Not happy about the rude awakening, he blurted out the first thing that came to him, that the song was about a runaway dog. {I'm paraphrasing here -- the full explanation can also be found in Barry's Box Set.}. Long story short, it does not seem to be written for anyone in particular. When Barry Manilow went to record the song for his second album in 1974 {Barry Manilow II}, it was about two years after the group Looking Glass had climbed the charts with a song named "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)". Faced with this, it was decided that the song title would be changed to the similar-sounding "Mandy". Again, not after anyone in particular, it just rhymed with the original.

Very cool information. Thanks. Did not know that.

Didn't know about that song - very cool, thanks!
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Fucker could probably suck a helluva dick too. Obviously gay. People need to call him out. He's gay. Period. Still a great singer.

Gotta nominate my hero Alice Cooper.

Influences everybody, doesnt always get the credit he deserves.

The albums which a melodic rock fan will like best- The Last Temptation (has Jack Blades collaborating in several places) and From the Inside.

If you dont have em, worth spending 20 bucks on.

Mr. Ronnie James Dio: Catalog speaks for itself. 66 years old and still rocking. One of the best I've ever seen live.
