Politics is a very very difficult topic...Hell, the guy who wins usually wins with a 50 to 55% share of the votes....what about the other 50 or 45%?? They feel their candidate was better, smarter, stronger....yet they lost....it is a lose lose conversation...Slander is very quick to state his opinion and views, alot of people are on this board, but he is in the minority alot of times and it becomes a pile on situation...he even has threads dedicated to trashing him...that is not my version of a good use of free speech...

In one way, debating politics is pointless... I'm not going to change Slander's mind any more than he's going to change mine. But, if done respectfully, it does give each person a chance to hone/refine his own views. Slander is rarely respectful, so he reaps what he sows a lot of the time.

It does JV and to me that's a damn shame. I hope we get to the point in the country where we can discuss issues and work toward solutions. I fear that will not be the case although I remain optimistic. Dare I say it? Some of my best friends don't share my views. That's fine with me. They have come to their conclusions based on thought and not on labels or because some talk show host told them to think that way. I however thought this thread would be a debate on whether or not artists have the right to not have their songs played at campaign rallies. I think that is a valid question. As I said in an earlier post, what if an actor had his image used in a campaign add of a candidate he or she did not endorse. I think that makes for interesting conversation

I don't have a problem with the Palin display. What I do have a problem with is if this would have been an Obama character it would have been a hate crime. The only reason they may have gotten out of it was because it's only a Halloween display. And there is no guarantee they would have gotten out of it. That said, why should this be a hate crime?
