Do you have early voting in your state? And can you get an absentee ballot for no good reason, just that you dont' want to wait in line? We can in Florida. After the Bush/Gore election, they changed a lot of things to make it better. They said in our county (Orange County) alone that 45 % of registered voters had already voted by other means so they expect shorter lines today. The lines for early voting were 2 hour waits because there are less places you can go to vote than on election day.

Get rid of early voting too.

Without early voting in an election like this you would have the polls open until the next day. They HAD to start that after the Bush/Gore fiasco in Florida. You can't have a voter turn out like we are having and fit it into 12 hours. It's physically impossible. Our ballot was 2 pages front and back. And most people don't read their sample ballots and it takes forever for the lines.

I didn't vote. I loathe Obama beyond all belief. And McCain freaks me out to a lesser degree.
Plus, I'm 12 hours from my voting precinct and I won't even have to worry anyway since my locale's Repub/Dem vote is always split 85/15. :P

This is the first time since I registered to vote (at 17) that I haven't voted. November & May I always show up, but I just can't bring myself to cast a vote for someone I'm not on board with.

It's not lazy,it's just practical when you have kids and a family you have to cart around. Sometimes it's just hard to fit in the time and since they allow it, why not take advantage of it. It helps those who want to or can go to the polls in person have a shorter wait also.

Husband and I tried to early vote twice last week and the lines were insane. So we went today, both voted for McCain. We got lucky, we went a little after 8 a.m. and there are 2 precincts voting at our location, and for some reason the area for ours we were able to walk right up with minimal wait, maybe 5 minutes. The other side though had a huge line still.

Bullshit! We've been fine all this time. If anything, extend hours and increase the amount of voting booths and/or make it just two days: Monday and Tuesday. This 2 or 3 week shit is wrong. If for anything else a lot can change in 3 weeks or a month (when early voting starts) before election day. Hell, we had at least one debate left when voting started. What if there was a major gaffe in the debate that would sway a voter but who had already voted. What if, god forbid, McCain did croak last week but someone voted for him already. What if someone was pissed at Obama for skipping Hillary and voted for McCain, but in the last week or so, Biden dropped out for medical reason and was replaced by Hillary. What if someone did get to Obama or some major relationship details did emerge about him and Ayers or Farrahakan, but someone already voted for him. At the bare minimum, it should be limited to less time and closer to the election.

It took me less than two minutes to vote and I voted for everything. As far as others taking a long time, well people are morons. Notice it did take Obama 15 minutes to vote.

I held my nose a voted for McCain. I just couldn't pull a level for Bob Barr as much as I like him, because it would be the same a voting for Obama.

PA is going to be tight and every vote counts this time around.

You know, I'd been about to jump on that and say "Look, dude, if people want to vote early, its their perogative, so STFU and just vote when YOU want to and let everyone else worry about their own."

And I do believe we all have to make our own choices and live with them... but I must say you do make some decent points about it. :D

Bottom line, people seem to have embraced it and if it works out for them, great, and if you've voted prior to any hypothethical snags, then I guess that will learn you to consider things more carefully next time.

Some people just stand firm on their candidate... every election since I was 18, I knew well ahead of time who I was going to vote for and little to nothing was going to stop me. I would have been happy to early vote at those times.

I understand the early voters are the ones typically who are hardcore one way or the other. However, what if there was a game changer that would even effect their decision i.e. death or major scandal in the last week. Like I said, at minimum this needs to be shortened. Also, where they knew there was vote fraud they couldn't do anything about it because it was too late. This also gives them more time to settle things.

Its already legal there anyway. Face it... that's a lost battle.

Ladies, do ME a favor and vote the way YOU want, not because some homophobe halfway across the country tells you what to choose. Thank you.

Fuck you. It's only legal (hopefully temporarily) because of a judge(s). It is not a lost battle. It has never passed when it's been on the ballot.

You know what, fuck YOU. There is NO reason to talk to me that way for expressing my opinion. You got yours in, so piss off.

PA is going to be tight and every vote counts this time around.

Too many of us racist redneck types, "clinging to our guns and religion with apathy" for people not like us I gues...

Well, this guy voted for Bob Barr (apparently the lone one according to the poll above). We need an alternative here in Illinois. However, if I lived in a battleground state I would have voted for McCain holding my nose too.

The other major factor and my main reason against it is the increased opportunity for voter fraud. This opens a whole can of worms.

Bill Ayers thanks you. I thought it was cute that he and Obama voted a few minutes apart today at the same place.
