This place anymore is a tough read. Literally have to grimace and bear down just to get through certain posts and certain posters. I am not so confused as to why some who voted the way they did, but for the reasons they used to get there.
I will only name one person, and this post here will be my final one on the subject, so it will cover both ongoing current threads. I admit, I am a political junkie, with possibly too much passion, but last night, that was a special night in America,
for America.
How could anyone, even an ardent McCain supporter, not be inspired by what was seen in Grant Park, Illinois, or more importantly, what was said there? A black man, running the gauntlet, defying the longest of all odds, has fought through what none of us here, nor hundreds of millions of Americans could never hope to do, has now breathed an optimum ingredient into this nation. One cannot put a price on Hope. Barack Obama has given America hope and the World has taken notice. As he said last night, America is indeed the last beacon of light, of destiny, but lately, Her own citizens have lost their way in the darkness. You want destiny? Barack Obama is the messenger of destiny and America today is a better place not only for itself, but for the rest of the world. Put away your disdain for Obama's policies, his associations, and his skin color. Try at least to embrace, to give a fair chance to a man who is a pretty tough customer, and a definite brave soul, to accomplish what he has. I am without a doubt, the most outspoken member, or ex-member on this board, particularly towards George W Bush, I trashed him pretty hard and a lot of the time, but, and I reiterate, but, only after I gave him a fair chance to govern. Yes, after the 2000 election, I was pissed, scorned and irate, but I respected the office of President and backed Bush in whatever areas he encountered. Especially after 9/11, I like 95% of the rest of the country, supported him and his poll numbers reflected that. His speech at the State of the Union address, as someone mentioned earlier, was in my opinion, the tip of the iceberg, of what was to come. Mentioning the "Axis of Evil" could be the worst written speech in political history. After that speech, as we all know, the declination of his presidency had begun. My point is, some here have made some comments not 45 minutes after Obama's election win, with the likes of, "what a sad day in America," and "welcome to the "USSA." My point is that is complete bullshit, to not even give the man a chance, a simple chance. He fucks up, by all means fill the bastard with gunshot, but as Stuart from Pittsburgh said, embrace the guy, as he deserves the chance to lead. He has earned the chance, a fair chance, to lead the greatest nation on Earth, and to restore it to it's formal standing, as a leader in all areas of global politics. To hang Obama right out of the gate is just simply wrong, and I wished the comments weren't made, but I understand being on the losing end and the fact emotion drives the fingers which type. I wasn't grandstanding, judging or condescending, I am just saying that a man who has defied the longest odds, who has accomplished something I never thought I would ever see in my lifetime, deserves our support, not necessarily our respect, yet anyways, but support, as he like Stu mentioned, is our president. Now, if Obama were to fall to the depths of Bush 43, then this post will look rather stupid, but the sentiments will be the same.
America did something last night that could possibly transcend itself to new and more greater heights, that none of us have ever experienced. Why rain on Her parade, especially when it hasn't really begun yet?
As for Stuart, your comments mirror your character and that is it shows your true honest self. You stated what I tried to a few days back, but apparently mine fell on deaf ears. I knew you would be inspired last night Stu, I just knew.
Oh, and hearing
The Rising being played to over a million folks live is never a bad thing. That made me emotional. Well, Obama did too.
