Unfortunately, I think Sarah Palin ruined all hope of that happening. I was leaning towards Obama for most of it, but was still somewhat undecided... up until she showed up and basically ruined most of the respect I used to have for McCain.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Sarah Palin energized the religious right...perhaps the biggest voting block in the nation (at least one of the biggest). Prior to her being added to the ticket McCain stood to get no votes from them. They were completely unimpressed with what he had to offer. I heard the head of the organization on the radio and he said prior to Palin they had zero calls/inquiries about the ticket. After she was named they couldn't stock yard signs fast enough. Granted, the media did a fine job of deconstructing an intelligent, pretty, successful governor and mother. Her approval rating and the job she's done in Alaska speaks for itself. Every state would be so lucky to get a check for $1,200 at the end of the year. I think Sarah Palin is great.

Rent a place in Alaska over the winter. After paying for the groceries and heating cost, let me now how it compares to what you're paying in Chicago. 1,200 dollars might sound nice but I think it's more to offset the prices up there which, like Hawaii, are a bit higher than prices in the continental U.S.

Yep, well aware of that. Obviously I'm in the minority with my thinking about military experience, and hey that's ok, lol. Thanks to those of you who answered though 8)

As JFB said, many pesidents didn't serve in the military and made real good foreign policy decisions and had good foreign policy records. Bill Clinton comes to mind. George W Bush really didn't serve either(was technically signed up for the Alabama Nat'l Guard where he spent a few weekends playing "go fish" and doing coke, and happened to miss the one weekend where physicals were conducted in order to get some pilots ready for combat), and look at his foreign policy record. You say you were an AF brat. Congrats, as your papa must be smart. The AF is where smart guys go. The Army sucked, I can tell you that first hand, and the Marines are even worse. Stu, relax, just saying there is no skating and fucking off in the Corps. The Navy and AF is where the flyboys hang, score tons of hot chicks and get to stay away from close range up close gun fire for the most part. My 18 yr old son told me last year that "an Army guy talked to him on campus at his high school" and he was thinking about going in. I told him, "the holy fuck you are. Not under this corrupt motherfucker in this bullshit war you're not." Needless to say, I won that argument, hands down.

Having military experience I think is a good thing though. John Kennedy, and George H W Bush were two guys who had good military backgrounds and had exemplorary military ops while in office. Much is who you surround yourself in Office with. W had Colin Powell. He is obviously very bright and knows his shit about military ops. I hope BO asks him to be Sec Def.

Dude even the Air Force, isn't safe anymore. My coworker's son went over to Iraq as a Fireman. They turned around and had him driving trucks down the Kirkuk and Airport highways of Death. Obviously SOS, PJ's and certain Air Force jobs require you to be in the line of fire, but a fucking Fireman? My Grandfather died in Korea, My father and uncles served in Vietnam (all jarheads), I was in AFSOC. I told my son just go to college, We paid the price for him already, he doesn't need to go get killed under some bullshit pretense or some fucked up vendetta by our Government or a famine relief clusterfuck ran by the U.N. I already went through that shit.

November 6, 2008
Reporting from Phoenix -- Sarah Palin left the national stage Wednesday, but the controversy over her role on the ticket flared as aides to John McCain disclosed new details about her expensive wardrobe purchases and revealed that a Republican Party lawyer would be dispatched to Alaska to inventory and retrieve the clothes still in her possession.

Tensions have simmered for much of the last month between aides loyal to McCain and those loyal to Palin, but they boiled over after the Republican nominee's defeat, as both sides spoke freely -- though anonymously -- about the wardrobe controversy and other conflicts.

Two aides to McCain and two to Palin discussed the tensions but asked that their names not be revealed, saying they were not comfortable speaking openly about internal operations.

The miscommunication and quarrels between the two camps lasted into Tuesday night, said McCain aides familiar with the situation. Palin arrived at the Arizona Biltmore planning to deliver a speech before McCain's concession speech, they said, but was told by senior McCain aides Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter that it would not be appropriate.

Fox News reported Wednesday that Palin's lack of knowledge on some topics also strained relations. Carl Cameron reported that campaign sources told him Palin had resisted coaching before her faltering Katie Couric interviews; did not understand that Africa was a continent rather than a country; and could not name the three nations that are part of the North American Free Trade Agreement -- the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Doesn't know Africa was a continent, thought it was a country? Cannot name the three states in NAFTA? And some of you here like her and want her to be your president?

No fucking way.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like the woman. I want to fuck the major shit out of her, and I blame her running mate for the worst campaign ever ran. She was nothing but a drain, but he was worse. She is receiving far too much blame for their loss. George W Bush deserves all that and more.

Interesting. Mike Huckabee says we don't have a health care crisis. We have a health crisis. And what he means is people have become too reliant on their doctors for pills, and their insurance companies for payment, that we've forgotten that we could circumvent tons of our problems if we made fitness a priority...which means personal responsibility. If everyone ate healthier, curttailed their vices, and kept themselves in better shape, we may not have a 'health care crisis'. The health care that we have could go for real problems.

Governments job isn't to take care of us. It's to allow us to take care of ourselves. But most people are lazy. We just wanna run to the hospital every time we sneeze.

I am just mentioning IMO, an incredible fact in the NEWS. A VP candidate cannot name the NAFTA states? Can she name California's capitol I wonder? Or Minnesota's? Is she really that fucking dumb?

Complete bullshit. Governments job is to take care of its people who are sick and or injured. That is what the government does.

And may I also remind you, that Phil Gramm also said that America was a bunch of whiners. This just proves how out of touch the republican right is with the nation. Hey, by all means stay out there in the cold. The country is far better off without the republican right and all it's fucking religious wackos and Rush Limbaugh clowns.

I wonder if Huckabee had Limbaugh in mind when he said what he said. After all, Rush was throwing down 500-1500 vicodins, percocets and darvocets per week. Yes, per week.

Dumb is dumb, regardless of which party you belong to. At least some of our conservative friends on this board just say nothing about Palin, because it's too painful for them to admit what a horrendous choice she was. She may well be the worst VP candidate ever selected. Maybe now that she has some free time, she can go and get her G.E.D.

Do you find it interesting that the source of this info is anonymous? They are looking for someone to blame and Palin is the target. She wasn't their lapdog and whoever it was in McCain's organization that she pissed off, is trying to get revenge. All this stuff coming out is making whoever it is on the inside look like the idiot instead of Palin, in my opinion, and unless they come out and man up and let us know who it is, it doesn't seem very believable at this point.

PS St John. I much prefer "typical Liberal" to a "Conservative" any day, so thank you for that.

What Obama was in essence saying or at least I think he is saying, if you watch him enough, is he wants people to take personal responsibility, to be productive and to be a good citizen. Of course that is directed, indirectly I might add, to African Americans. What Obama is going to do though, is give the poor in this nation a chance, a fighting chance at good jobs, fair hiring practices and an overall chance at "making it." For many, that is all they ask. Yes of course there are some suckholes who will take any handout given, but on the flip side, there are many like Obama himself, who just need a chance to excel. Make the playing field level is what he is going to do. Of course the have's aren't going to like that, because the Have's need the Have Not's to remain powerful. Very simple this capitalism stuff.

Two questions:

1) How is Obama going to "level the playing field"?

2) How did Obama himself excel on an unlevel playing field?

Oh I am happy as a pig in shit. However, why are your panties in a ball? Are you defending her stupidity?

Don't get me wrong, I actually like the woman. I want to fuck the major shit out of her, and I blame her running mate for the worst campaign ever ran. She was nothing but a drain, but he was worse. She is receiving far too much blame for their loss. George W Bush deserves all that and more.

I never knew you were a dike. Living with Dean drove you to that huh? No wonder you voted against Prop. 8.

You are gloating......

Not at all. You are stonewalling. I told everyone here yesterday, that gloating would not at all be cool, and that everyone, Democrats and republicans alike, have tickets on the Obama train.

I am just mentioning IMO, an incredible fact in the NEWS. A VP candidate cannot name the NAFTA states? Can she name California's capitol I wonder? Or Minnesota's? Is she really that fucking dumb?

McCain should have picked someone entirely different-hindsight is 20/20...
but now we have Obama so why beat a dead horse?
Name one person on here that wants Palin as their President as you stated above?
I wanted Hillary.

Many here cheered Palin. Hell, look at one posters sig!

And, I might add, you said she "was a breath of fresh air." Yeah, all air, and nothing of substance. How the FUCK does a sitting governor not know Africa is a Country? And yet McCain thought her as a good choice? You have got to be joking.

On the flip side, she did answer the door to a Mac aide in a bath towel!

From Newsweek's Special Election Project comes the real Sarah Palin. She met staff members in a towel:

At the GOP convention in St. Paul, Palin was completely unfazed by the boys' club fraternity she had just joined. One night, Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter went to her hotel room to brief her. After a minute, Palin sailed into the room wearing nothing but a towel, with another on her wet hair. She told them to chat with her laconic husband, Todd. "I'll be just a minute," she said.

Awesome! Guess she doesn't need to know anything about NAFTA or how big a city Alabama is.

My point Liz is this. Hillary worked her ass off, is smart and well rounded. She broke that glass ceiling with 18 million votes, and could have been a strong movement for women, then this dumb bag of nails comes along and sets back everything 50 years.

Even if it's bullshit it's running like Wildfire, not just among liberals but even conservatives who are looking for some one to blame and don't want to be seen attacking McCain directly. Palin may survive it however. She is so far off the map by living in Alaska, once the fire storm dies down she should be safe for a few years as we don't tend to pay much attention to Hawaii, Alaska and other territories that aren't physically connected to to the continental U.S.
