Fuck that fat bastard. Perry could sing circles around that dude. Let's hear Elvis sing Mother, Father. Perry, in his prime, could sing anything Elvis ever did. Fuck, he probably still could. And he wouldn't gyrate like a fuckin' giant dildo, either.

Without Elvis paving the way for the explosion of the rock genre, Perry would've never had influences and what we know as Journey wouldn't have been. Perry's talent was greater, but Elvis' impact is unparalleled.

Ding, ding, ding! Spot on, Rhi. I'm not sure if Perry's talent was "greater". Like everything else, that all comes down to one's opinion. Perry was the greatest singer I ever heard, but Elvis was far more diverse. Elvis was the only musician I've ever listened to in my life who could make gospel music sound listenable!

Yeah, and SP would be the first to admit Elvis's impact. I'm not much of a fan, but even reasonable people who don't get The Beatles, to take another oft-praised and oft-panned legendary group, understand their importance to ALL music in general.

So many musicians have been influenced by The Beatles who could sing and/or play circles around them (Phil Keaggy and Brad Delp, to name two who actually covered them). Doesn't decrease the role The Beatles had in influencing them.

I think Steve Perry should have been WAY before a lot of those other singers. I think the top 50 at least. Oh well, at least he's on there. Number 76 out of 100 top singers of all time is a bit of a snub to me though. LOL

From the article, in case you want to know who voted...

Each voter was asked to list his or her 20 favorite vocalists from the rock era, in order of their importance. Those ballots were recorded and weighted according to methodology developed by the accounting firm of Ernst & Young, which then tabulated and verified the results for Rolling Stone.

Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!
