Should Herbie Herbert Write a Book About Journey?

I think Herbie was right about one thing. These guys would probably be multi-millionaires if they hadn't liquidated those property assets in No. Cal.

Well no shit, but that goes along with the idea that someone should have held on to Microsoft stock from 1983.

That's probably one of the most important statements made on this board with no bullshit. I'm glad that I'm sitting here drinking a bottle of De La Montanya because I can tell you unabashedly:

Neal, Ross, and Jon owe their Post-Steve-Fuckin' Perry fucking careers to Steve Perry and the legal maneuverings he made beteween Frontiers and Raised on Radio. Lora or Cyndi, could you confirm???

Did Herbie ever steer them wrong when it came to money? Why go against the grain that time?

Herbie was proud to state that he always got an equal cut of the band money...however, during Journey's heyday (after Frontiers and before ROR) - and who can blame him - he went for the full management cut.

Hey - Don't get me wrong....Herbie was even more essential to Journey than Peter Grant was to Zep.

Andrew knows so many of the in-the-know people regarding Journey. He would be a great candidate to write a tell-all book about them.

Here's a book title idea: Journey - The Untold Story

I'd LOVE to write it - but don't have the contacts. :(

Seriously, I think it would be a great read, but a tough to research (if talking to the band members) and even tougher to keep unbiased when writing it up; there are some definate personalities involved!

As for the name, 'The Untold Story' is kind of dull and predictable. Surely we can come up with something better than that! Even 'Unknown Journey'!
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

The story of Journey is incredible - it has everything whether you are a fan of the band or not. It sounds like Andrew has access to some amazing contacts and sources of information - how about it Andrew? I'd buy the hardcover gift edition!

I'm just learning now two amazing pieces of information that I have never heard before, specifically about Herbie manouevering to take majority ownership. Funny, he always portrays himself as just a 'Berkeley Hippie' who did everything for the band out of pure love.

Also, who on earth wrote a song for Journey called 'Virginia is a C***'?! I don't think even Eminem has written something like that - it would NOT go over well with the band's audience (well 99.9% anyway - there's no accounting for that tenth percentile!). Where in the hell would you put that song in Journey's lineup? A segue from 'Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin''?

Yeah. Herbie would have facinating stories that would be absolutely terrific. But he sure comes across as a loud, arrogant asshole in his interviews.

Yeah he did. But I suspect its that "loud, arrogant asshole" vibe that got a lot of shit done around that band (including bringing in you know who). I dunno... wasn't there... just kind of how it seems.

No disagreement there. Sometimes the most productive are the most beligerant because they push people.

But he sure comes across as a jerk! The whole time I was watching BEHIND THE MUSIC, I thought, "yeah, Perry doesn't come across as a great guy, but then again ... neither does Herbie". Especially when he started sneering like an ass with his rant about the "wasn't part of the band" comments. Everyone else came across relatively diplomatic given the contenious topic, but Herbie came across as a sneering asshole, IMO.

Every time I read his interviews, I keep thinking of someone chanting,

I'm the greatest
I'm the most
I'm so good
I don't have to boast

I have to think that if he wrote an autobiography, it would have a closing line of, "I enjoyed writing this book as much as I know you enjoyed reading my scribe, no doubt the greatest literature ever published. "

To be honest, I'd rather read HH's autobiography than a book he's written on Journey specifically, simply because I don't think he could write a book on Journey; it would be his life as the manager of Journey, not really about them, and if I'm going to read that kind of book, I'd rather know more about HH's entire career, pre-, during and post-Journey.

Imagine the opening paragraph of that.
