'Tis the season to be hopeful.

Exactly. There has to be some truth to what all these people are saying. I think he's bound to release something in one way or another. The question is when.

Not anytime soon... No new material...

We'll see. If you have "fact", say it. If not, I say, we'll see.

StocktontoMalone wrote:Sorry, SJ, but your premise is flawed....Barry sanders retired at the top of his game. No doubting that he could still lite it up on the field.
And Barry made it perfectly clear that he was retiring. Perry has never indicated as much, and if he truly has retired he did so nowhere near the top. Are you telling me that his swan song was that high school gym tour with half-ass musicians (relative to Journey)? Or was it the TBF debacle and not touring in support of the album? The man hardly went on on top if he's done. In fact, relative to their "hey day" his exit was quite unimpressive.

StocktontoMalone wrote:Why can't people just get it through their heads that the guy just wants to be, not only left alone, but wants to be remembered as the 'voice' on those 'classic' cds.

Then he needs to quit sending out the bullhorns with their "he sounds like he did in the mid-80's" message.

StocktontoMalone wrote:He is a self-admitted perfectionist, and wouldn't put any half-assed music out there.
You're kidding, right? Check out FTLOSM and those Against The Wall wrist slitters. Not to mention that TBF showcased him as 3rd best with Smitty and Schon stealing the show on the entire CD. Perry had become 3rd best and a tour would have only proven that. Whcih is exactly why he should have let Journey move on gracefully with Chalfant and Rolie, but he chose the low road, put 2 guys out of work (something he's become quite good at), stalled Journey again, and put them right back to square one. No one ever said the man was dumb.

lol...some really unbiased sources there.  The only "proof" we have is that the man hasn't released anything or performed live in over a decade. I know this is hard for Loons, but common sense mandates that the guy can't sing anymore...or he would. I seriously doubt that Herbie Herbert made up the story about Perry going to vocal coaches and simply not having anything left.

None of them would have said anything if they didn't think he could still sing. It isn't what it used to be and who cares? Only a fool would think anyone can still sound like they did in their 20s-30s. I'd love to hear him sing Sam Cooke's more obscure songs or anyone else that influenced & inspired him so much when he was a kid. He's always sung with his heart anyway and that's what I want to hear/feel. Last week I heard Seal singing a bit on a radio show and thought SP can surely do this - they have a similar soulful sound.

Tammy, I don't disagree with anything you said here. I've always contended that the man could have probably been an adult contemporary star because of his gift of passion in his presentation. Here's the problem...he dispappeared for so long to the masses that he's become his own worst enemy. Instead of people seeing a steady decline, I think the way his voice might sound now opposed to what they're used to hearing might lead them to an "OMG, he doesn't sound anything like he used to" reaction. And I think that's what he fears. I think he "check mated" himself in a sense.

You know I go to movies because someone I know that has good taste told me the show was good. I will take Lora and Cyndy's advice that someone sings well anyday. I have also heard Lora and Cyndy remark when their favorite singers were not so up to par. Lora and Cyndy deserve more credit than they are given. They have earned that respect. Years of putting up with goofy fans like us would make anyone throw up their hands!    But somehow they kindly endure us. Vetran Music lovers that they are. :D

It doesn't really matter if Perry sounded great 6 months ago or not. He's not offering a product, so it's irelevant. Re-releasing his greatest hits remastered for the 2nd or 3rd time doesn't actually qualify as “hot new stuff”. Of course the spoons will gobble it up, lining SP's pockets full of Xmas cheer. It doesn't provide him much incentive to release anything new though, does it?

Happy Holidays Gunbot! :D I am going to spend time with my family. Hope your having a great day. Let us Loons dream a little will ya? You never know when and if he decides to suprise us all. Enjoy your day! :D

Never said that. I have a 60 year old man that hasn't been on stage live in over 13 years and has put out nothing on my side, and you have the Secret Steve Perry Knights Templar on yours. Plausible deniability ran its course long ago.

You will be the most fun to watch make excuses, SJ. Maybe Tito can hold you're sippy cup for you while you're eating your big plate of crow.
Can't wait to hear your excuses and denials of what you meant in all of your negative posts.

Start rehearsing.

I would have no problem admitting I was wrong if Perry ever took the stage again and could sing. And I certainly wouldn't expect him to sound like he did in the 80's...though it wouldn't hurt!!!

O.K. But why is it just about performing live? Many artists put out good music and play live very little or not at all.

Will you admit you're wrong if there is a successful recording released? Because, I'm telling you, there's gonna be.

Good questions. The problem is this...he could put out an album and it could sell 5 million copies, but if he never performs it live we have no way of knowing whether it was Steve Perry that sounded great or something else making him sound great. And if he could sing it in the studio then he could certainly sing it on stage.

I think Perry wouldn't consider something sucessful unless it outsells Revelation. He's only human. It won't be about the fans, more like “I'm the real Journey, look at these numbers, scoreboard”. I'm thinking it would be very personal for him.

I live in Chicago and that was clearly an offensive foul for pushing off. Then again, I hated the Bulls back then. Not a Jordan, Pippen and/or Phil Jackson fan.

Hey, here's a bit of free advice. Go take a logic course at your local community college. Learn how to form a cogent syllogism, then come back and debate me. You commit about 6 different fallacies of logic in your brief dissertation.

YOU brought up that series. Asking me to mind MY business..... Yeah, you'll be alright.

True, but he did it in an ERA in which only a few players were as big as he was and he dominated smaller, weaker players.

MJ is the greatest player in history and it's not close.

P.S. I really like Stockton and Malone. Those 2, along with my man Charles Barkley(the best 6-5 or under non-gaurd to ever play) are the greatest players to never win rings, and that's because they played in MJ's era.
