Cool Myspace message!!!

Postby G.I.Jim » Thu Dec 04, 2008 12:43 am

I got on Myspace this morning, and saw I had a new message. I opened it to find that it was from Stryper's original Keyboardist (Kenny Metcalf). He was giving me props on my tunes and said he really liked them. Told me to "keep up the good work", and said have a great day. He's not on my friends list, and I guess he just stumbled on my site. How cool is that??? :D What a great way to start the day out! Sorry....just had to share.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I know I keep dangling carrots about my songs and upcoming announcements, but I should have some very exciting news to finally be able to share right after Christmas. I'll probably be putting a couple of new songs up on my myspace page very soon too. I just think it's cool as hell that some of you actually like those songs! Once I get into the studio with some live drums, and one of my favorite guitarists throws down the tracks I know he can...it's going to sound SO much better! I'll keep you posted.

Thank you, and that was some good advice. I've had several people ask if they can buy or download my songs, but until they're studio quality...I'm not letting them get out there. I'd feel like I was ripping someone off with a home-recording. Hopefully I'll be heading into the studio in very early 2009 to lay down the final tracks. I can't wait to get some of these new songs in a "Playable" condition so you can check them out. Some of my best stuff has yet to be heard by anyone.

Wix, I remember those black and yellow outfits. I used to think how cool they were but looking at them now......Eh......Gotta love the 80's!

BTW Jim, I've gotta ask, is this still you on vocals for some of these songs currently on your MySpace? If so, fuck man, you sound plenty good. I'm really digging the harmonies. Very organic sounding.

I'm listening over and over to "Just No Way" and I'm finally figuring out it kinda reminds me of "Separate Lives" by Phil Collins. Don't know why.

Hey Jim, did he hit you up with a sales pitch about a pedal system he is hawking! I and a few others have been getting e-mails from him with compliments, along with this sales pitch for a pedal holder that really seems pretty useless. Anyways your songs are great as always, best of luck!

I wish! :D I'd love to be able to sing lead like that. I'm not singing lead on any of the songs on my site that are on there now. I sing all but the highest harmony on "Just No Way", all the backing vocals on "Losing You", and several other backing vocals scattered over the other songs.

All of my songs have big harmonies, and I wouldn't have it any other way! The main thing I try to accomplish with each of them, is to try to have some kind of catchy hook in the chorus, and stack the hell out of the vocals. I'm also huge on guitar solos, and you'll be hearing those soon. So far I've been pretty much a one-man-band but that's about to change for the better! Thanks for the friend request by the way!

Just No Way is a big guitar solo away from having been a hit 25 years ago. I'm LOVING that song.

That's funny as hell that you mention that!   He DID mention his foot pedal to me. Damn...there's a sucker born every minute! Thanks for bursting my bubble Eric.

Oh well, at least some people are liking the tunes. I'm with you on the pedal holder too. I sent him a message and suggested he make a double holder but space the pedals apart by about 3 inches. I wouldn't want one that holds the damn pedals right next to eachother....I've got some big-ass feet!

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. Believe it or not...that was the very first song I ever completed! Until then, I'd only come up with cool choruses, hooks or verses, but could never finish a song.

I really don't like that version of it, and I'm going to completely re-record it from scratch with a different lead singer. If you look at my downloads that are for sale, you can hear a clip from the original country version I recorded back in '03. Much different!

I like those lead vocals a lot. A lot of emotion. Maybe one or two phrases/words that could use a punch-in to strengthen up, but I really like them overall.

And wow, now I'm hearing the country version and I'm hearing Restless Heart! Sounds great.

Thank you! The vocalist on "Rumor" is Alex. He sang all of the songs on there except "Just No Way". He's got a great vocal range. There's one high note he hits on that that reminds me of Dokken. Pretty cool!
