To those who like boxing, who do you think will win this so called dream match between Manny Paquiao and Oscar De la Hoya?

Talent and skill aside Oscar is simply too big and too strong. I would love to see Manny do it but what is sure to be a popular event is widely thought to be a massive mismatch in boxing terms. I would be surprised if Manny isn't knocked out somewhere around the sixth. Think Cotto v. Margarito only worse.

Still, I hope Manny prevails and a whole host of unpredictables beyond each boxer's preparation make this a must watch 'fight'.

Oscar wins even if he loses, I think he gets the majority of the purse regardless. Manny had to bulk up for this fight while Oscar had to slim down. When Vargas bulked up to fight Oscar, he got tired because of the extra weight and Oscar really bloodied him up before finally knocking him out. You never know, Oscar might not give his best effort considering his payout is going to big either way. The PPV market is hurting though so the money won't be as big as it normally is.

Yep it's a 60/40 split. It's going to generate mega-millions though so everyone involved is a winner I guess.

We don't have to watch football baseball or basketball on PPV, yet these clowns want 50 bucks to watch something that could be over in 30 minutes.
I'll pass. I miss the days of watching Ali, Holmes, Sugar Ray and Tommy Hearns. This stuff now isn't the same.

This is a really hard fight to call. You never see such a height and reach variance at such a low weight (147 pounds). De La Hoya has about a 4 and a half inch height advantage and about a 6 inch reach advantage, both of which are unheard of in such a low weight class. Normally, you have one fighter going up or down in weight, but in this instance you have Pacquiao, the shorter fighter, going up in weight, and De La Hoya, the taller fighter, coming down in weight. I think the fight will ultimately be decided by who adjusts to the weight change better. Will De La Hoya get tired in the later rounds because of the weight loss, or will Pacquiao get tired in the late rounds because of the weight gain?

At face value both fighters appear to be in extremely good shape. Having watched every one of HBO's "De La Hoya/Pacquiao 24/7" episodes I can say that they have both trained their asses off. I see the fight being dictated early by De La Hoya. I see Oscar outclassing Pacquiao for many of the early rounds and possible even hurting him. However, if Pacquiao can weather the early storm, I see him coming back and being the stronger fighter toward the end of the fight. No one has less heart than De La Hoya and no one has more heart than Pacquiao. Remember, De La Hoya is the guy that quit a close fight because of a BODY punch from Bernard Hopkins. Pacquiao wouldn't quit if you broke both of his arms. I'm going with Pacquiao in a close decision...but man I hope he knocks that punk De La Hoya out.

Fuck this bullshit puke of a fight.

Pac should be facing Nate Campbell for the other belts in his own division,
since Nate's free (Joan Guzman backed out of their match months ago).

Oscar a pussy for not facing either Margarito or Williams after promising
them each a match earlier, but the fucker wants to retire on a win, so
he picks a challenger THREE FUCKING WEIGHT CLASSES LIGHTER than
he is! Shit like this, is why boxing's a joke.

Pac should take a punch to the face in the opening second, then lie down.
Easiest $10-$15M he'll ever make. Or if Pac can do it, beat the shit out
of that fucking coño de puta, and make $20M.

Pigfuckers...

I think it has the makings of a classic if Pacquiao can make it through the first 5 rounds without incurring significant damage.

Nobody gives a shit about that fight. This is where the $$$ is at. Manny made the right call.

Couldn't agree more...but Oscar knows he would get mauled by either of these guys.

De La Hoya will retire in shame if he loses this fight..and man, I hope he does. Pacquiao has nothing to lose and everything to gain, and I hope he comes down on De La Hoya like rice on beans. It would open the door for another monstrous payday.

Oscar wanted to bring Hopkins under Golden Boy Productions, so he dropped. The guy is all about he money, even if he loses to PacMan, he'll come out smelling like a rose. He's a slimeball but he is the only thing keeping boxing in the states from being totally dismissed as a viable sport. If he loses it will because he was too old, and he was just fighting to give PAC a chance at making some money. Believe me, living in L.A., I'm already hearing the spin.
One thing Manny doesn't want to do is fight like Fernando Vargas and punch his way through the first few rounds, Vargas got tired when he did that, and got killed later on.

Remember though that Manny is coming up two weight classes (three if you factor in that he only had one fight after coming up prior to this bout). Oscar is coming down one weight class and, official weigh in aside, will be significantly heavier come fight night than Manny.

It's not a question of heart. Oscar is naturally bigger and stronger and a better boxer to boot. Unless his game is off on Saturday night Oscar will win by a wide decision or a knockout.

As for his only KO against Hopkins - it was a clean, hard punch to the liver that finished the job and Hopkins is certainly no slouch in the punching department.

To give you a clue how much of a mismatch this fight is try to imagine Hopkins vs. Pacquiao. David vs Goliath, literally. This is Cotto vs. Margerito all over again. Manny is going to get steamrolled but will wake up one rich muddyfunster on Sunday!

Both fighters appear to be in great shape. Note the difference in length between each fighters arms and that Manny is still wearing thick soled trainers. Manny is going to be eating Oscar's jab all night!

Oscar's arms are freakin' long, very dangerous as Manny is weak on defense. Having heart is great, but Pacman is going to have to fight smart, which he never does. He is usually very aggresive, but charging in is going to get him knocked out.
Oscar doesn't have shoes on, he'll come in heavy tomorrow I bet.

Oscar's trainer...

Postby ttango1 » Sat Dec 06, 2008 5:52 pm

Has never beaten Pacquaio! Nacho's boy Marquez got a gift for that draw but still...that ain't a W.

Freddy Roach knows who DLH is and says that Oscar cannot be anything other than himself. In short, he lacks the discipline needed to fight the fight right.

We've all seen it happen to Oscar, I mean where the hell is Sugar Shane nowadays?

Pac for the win!

This is the same Freddie Roach who advised Hopkins to retire after he beat <um, I mean lost to> Joe Calzaghe? Hopkins then when on to a career defining win over the then undefeated Kelly Pavlik, a fighter Calzaghe himself had been ducking. Should have retired - my arse. According to Roach he is the one that chose the fight for Manny (HBO 24/7 ep4) and come Saturday night he will likely once again be the exponent of bad advice albeit with an absolutely maaaassssiiiivvvee pay check attached for all involved.

Oh man am going to enjoy posting in here come Sunday morning. In all seriousness though if Manny does prevail that would be a great result, it's just very, VERY unlikely to happen however much I might want it to.

And for the record Sugar Shane won his last fight (just about) and is now set to face the very tough Antonio Margerito around February 2009.

Size-wise maybe  but Manny isn't significantly faster than Oscar and they are restricted to boxing - Manny's burrowing and wild punching vs Oscar's straight ahead style. No kicking allowed.

No lie, that.

Oscar's got a 4" height advantage, and a --what is it? A 6" reach advantage?
The bitch has also survived the likes of reasonably-prime Mayorga, Vargas and Hopkins.
I think Oscar's going to ignore whatever Pac can land, if Pac can actually get past Oscar's jabs.

I love Pac to death, whereas I think the Golden Boy is der Teufel incarnate.
I'm praying the little guy gets lucky, survives the first 8, and then beats down a gassed-out Oscar.
Then again, I've also been praying for years, that Steve P. record or perform again. No joy there.

Yeah, the pic is a bit "pronounced" in terms of reach advantage but I expect that the speed will come to play. 6 years younger is just as much of an advantage to Pac as the 4 inches in height or 5 inches in reach to DLH.
