31 celcius predicted here - about 90 farenheit, I think. Which is nice - it's usually 37+ on Christmas Day.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh............... our elderly will descend on your country like locusts! Look at what they do to Florida!

Bullshit. We haven't had one storm yet. These 2 and 3 inch snowstorms with ice is what we around here call winter!!!  A snowstorm is at least a foot of snow.

Wow, ya almost sounded Canadian there Dan. :P

Minus 3 actual air temp this morning, with a wind chill of -21.

I went out to warm up my car... it didn't sputter or whine or groan... it flat-out LAUGHED at me. And I could swear as I was heading back into the house I heard it chuckle again and say "Yeah, right, we'll see."

Meanie! It's currently -20C here (-4F) - at least it isn't snowing right now.
I live between two mountain ranges, so it's nothing to clear a foot of snow off
my car in the morning, drive to work, and after 8 hours clear another foot of snow
off my car again! Two feet overnight doesn't even phase us, so when a city is shut down
over 4 inches we just shake our heads. Did I mention it's dark by 4p.m. for the next
couple of months?

Sherri - I'm curious - where are you? (you of course don't have to answer  ). I'm in the Shuswap - it's -26C and sunny here this morning - we don't see sun very often in the winter so the cold doesn't bother me (being from Calgary helps - gets much colder there!) It's the cloudy days and numerous feet of wet sticky snow I can't stand.

I'm in Revelstoke - we don't usually see the sun much either, but this cold weather is bringing clear skies.
Now that we have the Revelstoke Mountain Resort (highest vertical feet in North America) no one can afford
to live here! Everyone I know is moving to Salmon Arm or Armstrong, so if you're in those areas watch out
for an invasion of Revelstokians over the next two to three years :P

Not much work in SA, so I hope they have jobs before they come here! My husband's heading to Calgary after Christmas to work - hopefully it'll work out and we'll be moving back in the Spring! (If you know anyone looking for a house here let me know  )

Yay! Hope it works out. :)

I know :(

FL is so weird, today's high is actually supposed to be over 20 degrees lower than Christmas day, such a jump in just a few days.

Mine waited until I got back inside to laugh at me... aka, it wouldn't stay cranked. I walked back out several minutes later and it was all silent. We fought back and forth for a while. It wasn't pretty.

AND there's another snowstorm on the way for tomorrow... as in the day I'm driving home for Christmas, so now I've gotta scramble to see if I can leave earlier! :(

Nah, I think you'll be alright... it will take a little bit longer to get out of the metro area probably, but at least you're driving out and away from it.

Notwithstanding the fact that south of 80 it's ice falling instead of snow. I'm checking the forecast for here, Lafayette, Indianapolis, Cincy, Charleston, etc... it'll be near 60 at home on Friday so there's a little silver lining, right? We haven't had a temp above freezing since November. Ick.

Plug-ins? (you people are spoiled)...before those portable battery jumpstarters came out, I used to pop the hood slightly and rest one of these worklights on the engine block overnight in extreme cold...Image

Ignore that I'm getting a crash course in what a real winter is (who knew you couldn't let your gas tank get empty? who knew your lines freeze up?) what the hell are you guys talking about? Plug your cars in? Huh? I've been so sheltered.

Did you get the humidity there with it though? The humidity here in the dead of summer along with the heat is just disgusting. You can sit perfectly still outside and do nothing but breathe, and sweat your ass right off, lol.

Cold weather is good for the soul. I don't think it's just a coincidence that those who live in colder climates always have a higher life expectancy. The warmest states in this country always seem to have the highest mortality rates.

Not usually. Only when it gets close to "monsoon" season in the summer.
116 degrees + humid = "oh just kill me now".

LOL, mines in my garage, but I still plug it in when it dips to around -28 to -30 or more just in case......like yesterday (and that's without windchill, w/windchill it was -37). A friend told me I don't have to. He said no windchill in the garage, so should be ok. But the last thing I need is to not have my car start when I need to pick my daughter up in this bitterass cold.

Rhi, you guys must not have block heaters in your cars, it's pretty much standard in Canada.

Actually, the retirees fact just further emphasizes how poorly warm weather states do in the life expectancy category. The fact that these people all lived long enough to be retired simply means they're helping pad that life expectancy total for all the balmy states. It is an interesting phenomenon that I've always wondered about.

More snow than I can remember since I was a kid and the furnace has been going non-stop.

For the folks in the colder climates, have your heating bills gone sky high?
