What was supposed to be a very minimal snowfall started increasing considerably, and the county was then forced to cancel school at about 11:00AM, and get all the children home. I don't remember the totals, but it was probably between 6-8" that eventually hit the ground.
This sounds just like the winter of 92-93? I was living in Greensboro at the time attending Guilford Co. schools and I remember that February having about 7" of snow and schools were closed for a week.

I'm sure someone has a perfectly logical explanation for that, but it doesn't really compute to NC winter weather sensibilities.

I've had the same befuddlement living in Chicago. It was sub zero last week after a snowstorm and I was splashing in slush and the road was definitely wet. Back in NC it'll look wet, but it's just black ice. I don't get it. But I don't mind. My family is having a hard time relaxing each time I tell them it's snowed another half foot. "Are you going into work?" or "You'd better just camp out at work tonight." and I have to assure them the roads are navigable. Not always clean, but for sure driveable. Whereas in NC, I'd be trapped. Of course, everything being flat as a flapjack helps.

Funny as hell, they keep "breaking" news about snow. We're probably getting less than 1 inch, and probably NO accumulation on the roads. Just cracks me up how much they over-kill these few dustings we get.

When I first got stationed at Ft Jackson in '93, we had about 2 inches of snow fall one night. I had to drive about 30 miles to get home, and I'm NOT exaggerating when I say that I passed at LEAST 25 cars in the ditch.![]()
No injuries, just people driving too damn fast for conditions. People are idiots here when it comes to driving. I know they aren't used to driving in snow, but it's not rocket science!
People in Florida can't even drive in the rain. I can't imagine what would happen if it ever snowed here.

It just might snow tonight! lol j/k, but jeesh, the low is 30 tonightlol
And yeah, yeah, yeah, I can just hear the "whatever"s and see thefrom those of you used to cold, lol, but come live here in the scorching, sweltering, humid heat we get most of the year here and get used to that, and your popsicle asses would be freezing in the 30's just like us

Tomorrow's high is supposed to be in the 50's, so it's a good thing Dan doesn't live here or there would be reports of that guy with the nut-hugger shorts
and tank top walking around belting out "I'm All Out Of Love"

I lived in North Carolina for 13 long months (not that I was counting or anything) and it was definitely more than two months of 90+ degrees. I found the summer weather to be MISERABLE. Conversely, the winter climate couldn't have been easier to take! On another note, I have no idea what the hell a "chigger" is but I never heard of fireants until I moved to NC and those things SUCK!

Yep. And unlike these piles of snow here that have more or less been around since Thanksgiving, that stuff will be gone by tomorrow anyway.
Oh well... we know what to do with humidity, heat waves, and hurricanes... northerners know to shovel the damn snow. It's even.
