I voted for Perry.

My choice is based on my opinion that Perry could have performed creditably everything that Sinatra did. I'm not convinced that the reverse is true.

Ill have to go along with Spike here!

I agree - Perry could sing Sinatra's catalogue and put his unique vocal styling on it, but Sinatra singing
'Mother/Father' or 'Faithfully'? He had a beautiful, smooth voice in the 1940s, but not nearly the same range.
Compare Sinatra and Nat "King" Cole singing 'Stardust' and I prefer the style and phrasing of Nat Cole:

Voice-wise, Perry's my favorite singer hands-down, but on top of that,
Perry's a songwriter too.

As great as Sinatra was, he made his living singing other people's tunes.

Nat vs. Frank is a better poll question. Two singers from a similar genre.

I'll take Nat every time not just because of his voice, but he was also a virtuoso jazz pianist. I actually favor his earlier stuff with the Nat King Cole Trio over the later Sinatra style crooning era (though both are stellar).

Seems a representative definitely saw it as has been removed from YouTube. Probably because Stevie's actual fizzgog is used on the CD cover!

Perry vs. Sinatra what?

As singers? Matter of preference. Personally I love both. I'd feel dirty not voting for Frank though.
Career-wise? Sinatra, of course.

Who would win in a fight?
Gotta give it to Perry at this point, but back in the day, I'm sure Frank would have mopped the earth with Senor Beezer.

Sinatra always sounds like he's talking rather than singing, emotionless...I voted for the other guy.

Let's get Arnel to do a cover of Sinatra and then compare that to one of the tracks off the retard disc that came with Revelation.

This is a poll which is unfair or unclear to both parties. Mr. Perry had the most unearthly like voice (Perry tools) (at one time, circca, 1976-80) than anyone on any planet known to man. Sinatra was loved by millions and is an icon in a different way. Perry sang (and this is my argument for the singer who i believe to be unmatched) the most demanding dam songbook singing for Journey. No wonder big Neil has already went through 4 singers to pay for his child support payments. I'm 49 years old, and to this day, i am so in awe of Steve Perry legacy (in every level or aspect) that i believe it is so unfair to compare greatness to greatness. If i was Steve Perry, i would feel that i gave everything i had (his gift) to Journey for 7-9 years of service in a brutal way: No. 1. Starting in 1979, Journey toured for the record infinity for 10 months, took 2 weeks off, wrote and recored their follow up album, then guess what, they toured for another 10 months, took 2 weeks off, and wrote and recorded their next record. This schedule would repeat itself through Perry's stint with Journey (rest for ROR). For any singer to endure this rotation, it would have been damaging as hell. The 80's were a totally different era, no internet, no YouTube, etc. You will never see that SCHEDULE which Perry survived, ever happen today to any1 for so many reasons. Even if it ever did happen to a singer, (let's say Adam Lambert who is what 25) the songbook alone would be enough to want to either keep on going and screw your livelyhood. I would sugges Adam, you get off the merry-go-round as Perry did. I'm not a muscian, im a sports writer who has followed music and Steve Perry througout his career. But i can honestly speek for the man who has been labled the VOICE, has no reason to feel like he owes any1 anything at all. He is truly something as close to gold, as anyone we will ever witness. I do hope we hear something from him soon before he changes his mind, but as far as a poll, it's just not fair to both of them. I want to say one last thing, i believe SP was the king or benchmark of falsetto, his control along with a overall emotion while singing songs is unmatched.

if there was a Sinatra message board... Perry would get no votes... ;-)

Frank is the King before Elvis... after Elvis and worked well into old age...
my way one of the best songs ever... open arms or any journey tune doesnt compare...

and Journey is my favorite band....

If your telling me Frank had a better voice than Perry, LOL, thats just downright silly. Now if your telling me Frank had more of a fanbase (Billions to this day) thats a fact. Frank was and is king, Perry sang a songbook that frankly (my belief) either changed his voice, or altered it (early on, not in a bad way). Put Frank on manager HH's 1980's-circa schedule, 3 1/2 hours a show, 3 nights a week, 10 months a year repeated for what, 7 years with that songook, and see what Frank has left in his tank. It's that dam songbook that is the topic, not who's better or who's worse. Is Frank a better singer, yes to some, no to others. Could Frank have sang the high-tenor songs that were so brutal, it's sicking. Lets see how long it takes before Pinea wears down. Again, it's in the songbook.

Don't associate a higher pitch with greater ability, otherwise Geddy Lee might be better than Steve Perry himself.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

They are all great, it's probably up to the individual that makes us become emotionally involved to that certain artist. Lets face it, without us, those singers would be working a different job. I have given you my opinion, what i believe, and though i am a SP loom, i still don't see how he overcame getting out of the so called merry-go-round (his quote) untill 1987. Untill you have stepped on the boat, you'll never know for sure.

Its really hard to compare two singers who are nothing alike. Maybe compare Frank with say Sammy Davis Jr. or Perry Como or Nat King Cole someone like that. There is really no way to compare two different time periods and singing styles. For Classic rock Steve Perry for me over any other Artist of the time period.

Every generation produces its own icons and "voices". Time will tell whether or not Steve Perry will have the longevity of Mr. Sinatra. I doubt it. Not because his voice and talent were less, but because I don't think he matches the same drive, determination, and grit of Mr. Sinatra.

Well said, and i hope in years to come, SP's legacy will be as big as i believe it could be. Ironically, he's seems to have become alot more of a household name since he has bolted from Neil's revolving frontman door.

I am a huge Steve Perry fan and as far as vocal ability, range, and tone Perry hands down has the better voice. But Frank was and still is considered an American Icon. He had one of the longest careers along with Bing Crosby, and had alot more determination to stay in the music business. Sinatra wanted to keep his name out there and built off his popularity, becoming one of the most popular singers in the last 50 years. Steve doesnt seem to really care that much about keeping what legacy he has around. He has been out of the music business pretty much since 96. Steve doesnt seem to do anything to build off of his past and go into the future. Its a real shame that someone with such a gift, isnt doing anything to use it really.

Being in a group tends to hamper individual recognition (unless you're one of the Beatles). If Perry had three or more multi-platinum solo albums maybe you could compare him but that didn't happen. Steve Tyler, Jagger, Bono and even Jon Bon Jovi know what side their bread is buttered on when it comes to being considered bigger than the band. That's why they can still fill arenas throughout the world 30 years on.

+1 I totally agree with you. Not only that, but Frank was also a pretty damn good actor and won an Acadamy Award for his work in "From Here To Eternity" and 4 Golden Globes. His performances in the "Manchurian Candidate", and "The Man With The Golden Arm" were excellent as well.

Sinatra won 3 Oscars for Performing "Best Original Song" He has 3 Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He's been nominated for a Grammy over 30 times and won 11 times. As much as I love SMFP he can't even come close to Frank's career achievments.
