In fact, Medicaid in Idaho used to only pay 66% of the bill and they just cut that by another 25%, providers are not allowed to bill the difference to the patient-you do the math.

And I'm terribly sorry, but not everyone without medical insurance is in that boat because they can't "afford" it, or because of the "economy". Bullshit. I've been a nurse a looong time now, and it's pretty amazing to me how many of these people who claim they can't afford health insurance can damn sure afford expensive cars and coming waltzing in here with their Medicaid cards with Coach, Luis Vuitton, and Gucci bags slung over their shoulders .

Do my husband and I enjoy spending hundreds of dollars every month on our health insurance? Well of course not, I mean gee, if we could have a free handout then maybe we could buy expensive cars and purses too. But no, we choose to WORK and live within our means, gee what a concept.

I have NOTHING against patients that have medicaid, but I have HUGE problem with people that abuse it....here's an example....a few weeks ago I had a patient walk up to the labor and delivery desk at 5:45 and this is what she said..."I am 18 weeks pregnant and two days ago I had some spotting after I had sex, I know it can be normal but I know you can tell the sex of the baby at 18 weeks so since I had some bleeding medicaid will pay for an ultrasound and I would like to know the sex of the baby too. I would have gone to my doctor's office but they are closed now and my husband just got off work and he wants to know the sex of the baby too. Besides, I always have to wait when I go to the office and I'd rather just be seen right away-I hate waiting." So, I listen to her baby's heartbeat, make sure she is not having any active bleeding and determine this is not an emergency, I then called her doctor and he did not order an ultrasound-instead wanted to see her in the office the next day. She threw a FIT because she didn't want to have to "wait" the next day ( ) She then demanded that we call in a prescription for sleeping pills for her because she was "so excited' to find out if it was a boy or girl that she didn't think she could sleep-and then said "they will be free because Medicaid pays for it." WTF? That is not FREE!!!

No they aren't necessarily "struggling", but there are TONS of patients of many private practices who never pay their balances on their patient responsiblity portions, and also don't pay their co-pays saying "Just bill me" and it never gets paid. And that damn sure does add up and hurt their practices. Pretty funny you can't say "Just bill me" at the grocery store, yet it's ok for medical care?

When I was in the US Navy , during bootcamp we got showed these pictures of people with advanced STDs' -bloated, caked with pusss, faces and genitals total history.
