At some point the guy has to step up and be accountable for his performances, and his fans have to be willing expect more, and quit using the whole 'ohh, poor Arnel, he's going through so much' routine. He's either a professional and can handle it, or he's not.
Precisely! The old bad cold story just doesn't fly. He should have been rested & prepared. Period.
Btw, I'm not knockin the solo stuff. I think it's great and Augeri should have done it too. It's only good PR for the band.
The problem with it though, is that a singer without the band, or at least a similar band, will sink back into old habits and annunciations. Keeping your voice in shape isn't the problem, it's keeping it conditioned and tailored specifically for the band that becomes the problem.Doing all the charity events & karaoke gigs is fine. But having the discipline to keep your vocal habits in tune with your band is another thing altogether. And I think that was part of the problem last night.

Bingo. A month of his old crowd brought forth all the old habits. And fer cryin' out loud, why is he getting a cold so often? That's his instrument he's destroying if that's the case.
Not professional behavior. Period.
All of this brings the whole percieved "inaccessability" of Perry into sharp focus. On the one hand we have Perry, who allegedly wouldn't talk to anyone if his hair was on fire while he was on tour in order to save his voice for the shows (and to avoid sick people).
Pineda, on the other hand, will show up for the opening of an envelope, and it seems like he never shuts up. Perhaps Pineda should consider taking a page from the Perry book on professionalism for vocalists and learn when it's time to shut it down.
Where are you getting your information? Madsplash?

I think he made some mistakes leading up to this show definitely. But on the whole and throughout his career since he was young he not only doesn't talk much to save his voice, but he whispers. Read any interview of him b/f summer tour last year or during. Some mentioned how softly he spoke to conserve his voice. Old fans of his from early years when he was in his 20s talked about meeting him in person between breaks and he spoke so softly you could barely hear him. I would imagine after singing almost every night for 20 something years, that's why he still has the voice he does. And singing one song here or there in December I don't believe led to these problems and was for publicity for the upcoming tour.
Having said that, reagarding the Super Bowl, I feel he made mistakes and, like I said in a previous post, probably was not as disciplined these last months leading up to the Super Bowl regarding all the reasons stated before and others have stated and the charity gig didn't help. Won't go over them again.
