He's complaining about being misquoted and misinterpreted. I'm just trying to help the guy along. Persuasive writing is about knowing your audience and your venue. I had a 780 verbal SAT score and used to try and show it off the same way when I was younger. For the lion's share of writing, less is more, believe me. Oh, and since we're on the subject of words, it's onus.
Gideon's got some very good viewpoints and I agree with a lot of them. I read and understand him just fine, but I can easily understand why a lot of folks here don't bother.

Gideon wrote: Hell, I once thought that with "When You Love A Woman." In terms of technical skills, it's not one of Perry's finest; but there was a certain vocal quality that made it nigh-untouchable. Arnel nailed it. And so I want him to practice his little ass off and try to tackle the greatest ballad of all.

There is ZERO comparison between the notes in "When You Love A Woman" and the glass-splitting notes at the end of "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever". I suspect Arnel probably does have the power in his voice to take it on. It's certainly not a coincidence that Schon hasn't dared have that song performed since Perry left the band. He knows full well that his collection of "replacements" had zero shot of tackling that song. Although Perry is superb on WCTNGOF, I don't think it's close to his best performance ever. For me, it will ALWAYS be "Mother Father". There isn't a song in the Journey catalog that illustrates Perry's untouchable brilliance more than that track.
Gideon wrote: his range, power, breath control, and stamina are sub-par relative to what he used to be.
Long story short: everything we've heard him do since the '80s makes it clear that he was losing it. Will he always have a great voice in terms of tone? Sure. But he can't tackle this shit anymore. He clearly doesn't possess the other factors.

Right...and I can't run 5 miles a night like I used to do when I was 25! What's your point? For the millionth time to you Perry detractors....It doesn't matter what Perry can do in 2009, and hasn't mattered in many, many years! Journey is a washed up, 80's band, who has been living off of Perry's immense talent since he left the band. Perry doesn't need to be relevant in 2009. He remains the reason that "Journey" sells any tickets and earn a living off of songs that were made famous by his voice!

You're "disturbed" that "Don't Stop Believin' gets radio play? Are you fucking serious dude? I think you're smoking from the same bong as Michael Phelps! In spite of your affinity for vocabulary, you sound like a bigger jackass with each post!

Yes, he has a sh*tload of delay and other effects on there but he just sounds so damn GOOD.

The ending is the weakest part for me, because it sounds like it should continue but sort of just stops.
Hey, I'm not going to further battle for him..I don't even know him and he can certainly speak for himself. He just made a point that resignated with me and I spoke to that. As far as his views on Journey there isn't a lot I agree with him on.Ehwmatt wrote:Blueskies wrote:Thanks for reiterating what I just said back to me of what he was complaining about...and pointing out a typo I failed to correct.Ehwmatt wrote:Blueskies wrote:Thats funny, I don't have the least bit of trouble reading and comprehending any of his posts. I'm only assuming what Gideon pointed out. Gideon's a good guy, a smart guy, and a VERY welcome addition to the board as far as I'm concerned. I was just trying to explain to him why his posts were going "in one ear and out the other" with some posters here.
