OT: Whose Going To See "Friday the 13th" Tomorrow?

Postby jrnyman28 » Fri Feb 13, 2009 7:50 am

I took the night off from the 2nd job and I am taking my daughter to see this. Thought about going to the midnight showing tonight but it was easier for all to do it the night of Friday the 13th proper. Jason looks friggin'' insane in this. I certainly hope this one lives up to the hype. Lately the prequel/remake/sequel craze has been outta control. But the work being done has been pretty good on a fair few.

My daughter and I really wanted to see "My Bloody Valentine 3D" as well but that one came out too close to my son's birth so we skipped it in favor of this one. No one else in the house likes horror movies so they are always the first ones to get axed (yeah, pun intended) from any movie plans.

Valentine was surprisingly very weak.
The original holds up better.

I'll give the new F13 a shot.

Tried to talk the wife into it but the theatre will be full of loud ass whipper snappers. So we will probably wait a week.

Funny thing about the movie....In the original, Jason wasn't the kiler. His mother was...don't know how they are going to explain this. It is Called Friday the 13th, not Friday the 13th part (pick one the remaining 10).... :? :? :?

I think the 3D craze will implode soon enough, but thought the movie looked decent. One thing about this new 3D format, it makes ALL scenes 3D...not just the specific moments designed to be 3D. When I watched Journey To The Center Of The Earth in 3D I was amazed at the depth to he "normal" scenes. (Too bad there is no depth for Brenden Frasier's acting!!)

I hear that (slight spoiler alert 3..2..1) it's re-capped in the opening credits.

What made the original so good is you never saw the killer....IMHO.

From what I understand, the refer to the mom but do not include her. This is supposedly a composite of the first THREE Friday the 13th's.

Too bad we won't get to see Kevin Bacon get an arrow through the throat in this one. But I have heard that the Blue Ray of the original F13 will include additional footage including and extended Kevin Bacon death....

Fortunately, at least around the parents, she is a pretty good kid. But she does jump at scary stuff.

I still haven't figured it out yet, but there was a scene in Journey To The Center Of The Earth (we saw the 2D version in the theater) that made her jump and she accidentally kicked the chair of the woman in front of her therefore creating a better 'scare' for that woman.

They're improving slowly but surely.
Digital cartoons like Beowulf or the recently released claymation Coraline work better in 3d than most live action movies.

James Cameron has been working on a new live action 3d flick for a few years now.
Each time he makes a flick, he seems to bring the industry a few lightyears ahead into the future.
Some say its only a matter of time till there's 3d flicks w/out the glasses.

As I said earlier, I usually do not get the opportunity to go to horror flicks in the theater. So this is gonna be a fun night. I did take my daughter the Saw V as well. (I know, not "horror" exactly, but still in the vein of movies I don't get to go to usually.)

I'm planing on seeing it, but not this Friday night, I want to let the crowds die-down (no pun intended) some before I go.

I wanted to see the remake of My Bloody Valentine, but didn't get around to it.

Does anyone know if the Friday The 13th "remake" is supposed to be as brutal as the remake of Halloween?

Right, Jason's mother was the killer in the original.

Also, Jason didn't get the mask until part III. But now in the "remake" he's going to have the mask.

I just hope it's a lot better than the remake of Halloween.

It is likely with the advancement of special effects and the pervasiveness of violence in our culture that this will be a more brutal movie. But I am not sure how it will stack up to Halloween. I didn't think Halloween was that bad except for Rob Zombie's need to fill almost all dialogue with vulgarity. I have nothing against swearing but it seemed a little excessive to me.

Yeah, I have always loved the Friday The 13th and Halloween movies, but Zombie just got too brutal and obscene with the language in his remake of Halloween.

I was at a party on this past Halloween night, and we eventually put on the remake of Halloween. I had seen it in the theater when it was out, but none of the others at the party had, and a lot of them were offended by the language, and one of the women was a little uncomfortable with all of the nudity in it.

Love the original 80s flicks, but I'm not sure that this will live up to the classics!
