Really lifted my spirits at work: thanks Steve! There were a couple of other Augeri songs that I thought were pretty dang awesome; it's late and I can't remember the names of them, lol. Anyway, I am ashamed to say that this last month is the first time I really, really just let the songs into my heart and I am so glad they were/are there on my IPod.
I've also been listening to a lot of old Journey with Gregg Rolie and have been amazed by them, too! Absolutely love "Spaceman"; right at the top of my list of favorite songs--Neal laughing at the end was so sweet and poignant... One that I listened to closely last night (doggone it I can't remember the name of it--they played a part of it backward at the end): rockin', fun, melodic, terrific! They all seemed so happy then.
The common denominator amongst all of these songs is Neal. God, what a musician. I don't know if there really is another one that's like him. Haters don't matter really; the music is still there and that's what counts in the end.
P.S. Andrew, I'm sorry you're having a tough time; I hope all is well at home... This other stuff is kinda silly, isn't it? That guy on YouTube got on my nerves pretty quickly with all the cursing; these days I don't think most people will waste their time there... Anyway, sending you best wishes... Please let me know if there's anything I can do..
Sorry this is so long--I usually don't write this much.

Neal is amazing on that song. I always jam along to that song to play that solo. Can't quite figure out the one run he's doing, it's still great though.

Agree might be my favorite Journey song, or certainly right up there. I can definitely relate to the message of walking away from the edge- although I seem to constantly walk tward the edge, stand on one foot like a flamingo and then lean over the prepice as far as possible, before I come to my senses.
One of my favories, never heard them do it liveJana wrote:I love Walking Away From The Edge as one of their best ballads in the Augeri years off Red 13. Of course, today I feel like walking toward the edge, so maybe that's why I'm thinking of the song.![]()

I'm listening to only ballads today, as I have my wrecked car being towed away to the body shop and the refrigerator is flooding my whole kitchen. So only soft music for my raging headache.

Sounds like somebody needs an appreciation thread. Where's Tito?

What happened Jana? I hope you're okay.

Listened to it in full for the first time in a while yesterday and he is absolutely powerhouse vocally on FITH, TPIYH, Believe, KTYLM and OOHW.

No biz even remarking on it, you.
Look, Coln. I know you don't like the era, and that tour was the birth of The Gate, but you cannot tell me those above are not really strong vocals whatever quality you think the songs are.

Are they really strong vocals or were they pro-tooled and glued together in the studio from multiple upon multiple takes. I agree that the end result is very good but, considering the ensuing tour and the amount of vocal problems that Augeri had, I have no confidence that what we hear on "Generations" is really much more than studio wizardry.

Who knows?
EVERY studio album by EVERYbody should be held to the same strict scrutiny standard then.
Yes, I have heard that to get the lead vocal on Faith In The Heartland to sound as good as it did took 2 weeks or more, some sessions only yielding like 1 good line.
Well it was the same with AC/DC on Black Ice and from what I hear Perry on TBF so I judge it all the same...
If they kept the best vocal parts of all studio sessions for songs, I'm fine w/ that no harm no foul.

That's not even his strongest moment on the Tall Stories album...
World Inside You, Something To Believe In - much better, imho...
Is that album out of print?

Me, too. It doesn't really cross my mind much while listening to "Generations" but I'd also stay far away from saying it's Augeri's finest vocal performance.
