SP: New Stuff in 2009 Or Not?

Postby madsplash » Wed Mar 18, 2009 12:54 pm

OK, let's see where we stand. A very simple poll. Only 2 choices needed.

Will SP release new material in 2009? Easy question. YES or NO?

Whadda ya think?

Of course he will. Everyone knows it's true...we just choose to deny in case he doesn't.

There needs to be a "Who knows" option. Because that one would get more votes than the other two combined. You just never know with SP.

Out of the two options, I'm going with hope and select Yes.

Hopefully, yes. Realistically, no. He's been dangling this shit out for years and has yet to deliver. Perhaps Journey's success without him has prompted him to get his old ass into the studio, but his probable insecurities and obvious contentment for retirement may spur him to just record for leisure without releasing new material.

Hope for the best, expect the worst.

God I hope so. :D Although I have no personal knowledge what-so-ever, I keep getting an April vibe. Not that anything will be released in April, but we'll get definitive news in April... Or not    Maybe it's just wishful thinking

This is the part I have most trouble with. Define 'fine form' for me, please. Back to breaking glass or TBF-era?

No Gid. Fine form means to me, I Stand Alone quality, with Seperate Ways power. Does that make sense? That's the way it's been described to me.

The breaking glass runs of Homeade Love probably won't be there. Which, although I love that song, aren't really important at this stage. The vocal maturity combined with ENOUGH power and range, are what will be showcased in the latest incarnation of The Voice.

I Stand Alone was his finest vocal performance from 1987-1998, IMO.

Not particularly. But that's because the expressions are vague. By "I Stand Alone" quality, do you mean structure and sound of the song? Or Perry's raspy, limited range combined with "Separate Ways" power?

The breaking glass runs of Homeade Love probably won't be there.

Not necessary for me. I much prefer his '83 - '94 era.

Which, although I love that song, aren't really important at this stage.

It's a shitty song, for the record. As a devout Christian, I have trouble thinking Jesus or God Himself could fix it.

The vocal maturity combined with ENOUGH power and range, are what will be showcased in the latest incarnation of The Voice.

Sounds appealing, but still vague. I don't want him trembling with exertion as I felt he was in TBF. Fortunately, the harmonies saved his ass.

I Stand Alone was his finest vocal performance from 1987-1998, IMO.

It was pretty good. But that good? Eh. I'm tempted to flog you and Rick for your insolence.

It's my favorite SP solo song right now. Of course that changes quite often.

From '87 on, I like "I Stand Alone", "You Better Wait", "Stand Up", "Against The Wall", and "Forever Right or Wrong", the most.

She doesn't nag much, so that's not a tall order. But then MS wasn't talking about only solo material, so I may have to rethink what I said.

Agreed, but it's never been about range for me.........IMO, his tone/vibrato, power and emotive ability in delivering a song are second to none and I would think those qualities are still there. :) And I voted "yes" out of wishful thinking. 2 down, 1 to go. If I end up getting CDs out of all 3 of my fave vocalists, there just is going to be no putting up with me. TRIFECTA!! :P

Ok, I looked at the TBF tracks, and I don't think any of those were a stronger performance than I Stand Alone.

We'll go straight for the Force Grip. Of course, I should let SJ take care of that. I hear the muscles in his right hand are particularly toned.

i don't know if sp will release anything this year. not sure why others feel the need to tease people with what they pretend to know. i'm always hopeful of new music from any of my favorite artists, but i don't have to know every release date RIGHT NOW! in this day & age of modern technology, i think we all hear of official release dates well before music is available. i doubt that anyone ever misses out when they don't get the hot tip from their embalmer's, bestest friend's, identical half-sister.

i hope nobody missed out on the album will c released last year. WILL C! :D
