Can you provide transcripts of these memos and proof for your Nixon claim?

If you can, I am certainly willing to accept what you have posted.

The Manning memo is the leaked British memo where Bush discussed painting US military crafts to look like UN planes and sending them into Iraq's no fly zone to start a war.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/27/inter ... .html?_r=1

The memos were leaked initially to the UK newspaper The Sunday Times.
Which can be found here: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/u ... 387374.ece

Here is a nice history of Nixon and the creation of FISA, but I'm sure its covered in numerous sources.
Not the least of which should be high school social studies texts.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... Id=5049679

And finally, here's Bush's first Treasury Secretary, Paul O'Neill, saying Bush was talking about getting Saddam less than two weeks into his administration (a charge leveled by others in the administration, as well).

Yes, he said he was pressured by administration.
What of it?

Umm, as far as I am aware, the inflamatory calls for AIG execs to "commit suicide" or for public executions have all come from the GOP.
Namely, Grassley, Krauthammer, and Kondracke.
I watched the AIG hearing led by the Dems.
Aside from some Code Pink theatrics, it was very civil.
You are full of shit. Again.

Obama seemed pretty upset about it...Funny, since it was his signature on the "stimulus" package that actually gave the ok to these bonuses...

You can't invoke Adam Smith nostrums when the company is already 80% nationalized.

I have no idea who Adam Smith is, and I don't have time to go find out. (I also don't really care who he is.) If the government wants to get into the day-to-day running of AIG, fine. If they want to negotiate new contracts with AIG employees, that's OK too. They CANNOT go in the way-back machine and undo the contracts already made and take back the money paid out to those employees. I think the tax on those employees will be deemed unconstitutional as well, but we'll see.
I do not agree that the government has any right to dictate what is a reasonable income for any non-government position. If a person can go out and find a job that includes a million-dollar bonus, good for him or her.

The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last.

President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.

He bowled a 129, the president said.

"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.

It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.

When asked about the remark, the White House said the president did not intend to offend.

So I'm guessing his teleprompter didn't make it to the Leno show? What a crass asshole he really is.

Joe the Plumber -- real name Samuel Wurzelbacher -- told a crowd of conservatives Thursday night that their love was getting him all hot and bothered.

"God, all this love and everything in the room -- I'm horny," declared Joe.
Wurzelbacher had taken the stage to a standing ovation at the annual "DisHonors" Awards, presented by the Media Research Center, to poke fun liberal media groups. But the "horny" declaration didn't go over too well, according to the Washington Post.

Buzz immediately commenced.

"Did Joe the Plumber really just say he's horny?" "Did you hear Joe say 'horny'?" "Why is he horny and why is he telling us?" ...

After declaring he was horny, Joe mumbled a few other things about being the "token redneck" and the media loving him, and then sat back down in a sea of conservative luminaries that included G. Gordon Liddy, former Attorney General Ed Meese, radio talk show host Mark Levin, Fox News' Brit Hume and former House speaker (for half a minute) Bob Livingston.

Since debuting during the presidential campaign as the face of an "average Joe," Wurzelbacher has kept himself busy, talking strategy with conservative groups and doling out criticism for RNC Chairman Michael Steele.

"Unfortunately, we have a chairman up there who wants to redefine conservatism; he wants to make it hip hop, put it in a new package and sell it," Wurzelbacher said. "You can't sell principles; either you have them or you don't."

   I just love Plumber Joe. I've missed him since his stint in the Middle East as a war correspondent.

Obama gets away with verbal gaffes just like Reagan did. They have a disarming way about them. My girl Hillary, I hate to think what would have happened to her if she had said the same thing. :?

Sounds very much like the un-PC quips the old McCain was known for, and guys like you couldn't get enough of.
It's an unfortunate statement, but who cares.

Just how exactly is it a double standard when the newscycle has been dominated by the story (mea culpas and all) since Leno aired last nite?

I'm not outraged.
Obama is cutting through the chattering classes in the most direct way since FDR's fireside chats.
In this time of economic doomsday, it's exactly what's needed.

Funny.
Were was this easily bruised sense of propriety as Bush made fun of executing Karla Faye Tucker?
Or the time he selflessly "gave up golf" in support of our needlessly deployed and dying troops?
Or as Chenery fired an F-bomb in the hallowed chamber of Congress?

Seems like more contrived self-righteous outrage from the same career victims who brought us the "War on Christmas" (TM).

You're joking right? While you're right to compare Obama to the man that extended the Great Depression and cause a second recession within the Depression with the proven failed tool of debt spending....

At least his mentor (as you put it) actually talked about the economy during his 'chats' and not his fucking bowling game and ill-tasted jokes about handicapped....

People don't need to hear/see about a president NOT doing his job. THey need to SEE postive results, NOT the negative ones over the past 2 months. THis economy's getting far worse under his command, NOT better.....and going on the Chin's show isn't doing it. What's going to happen next week? Letterman? the week after that, Conan?

The is fucking sad...really sad. From "hope" to failure in 2 months flat....

Thankfully I wasn't fooled by EITHER candidate....and thankfully the guy fucking things up is a democrat. Perhaps the public will start to see liberals as they really are now....

That's bogus.
Unemployment went down every year after the New Deal was implemented UNTIL Congress had FDR curb spending and try to balance the budget.
That resulted in the recession of 37-38.
Which we didn't get out of until a little known massive public works program called WW2.

strangegrey wrote:At least his mentor (as you put it) actually talked about the economy during his 'chats' and not his fucking bowling game and ill-tasted jokes about handicapped....

Obama DID talk about the economy, at least to the extent you can in a fluff format like Leno.
Like great presidents before him, the larger purpose was to communicate with the country.
Already Obama has shown more leadership than Bush just by manning up, and taking his lumps like a mensch.
When was the last time Bush owned up to anything?

strangegrey wrote:People don't need to hear/see about a president NOT doing his job. THey need to SEE postive results, NOT the negative ones over the past 2 months.

You're smarter than this.
You know politics is part showbiz, especially in America's celebrity driven culture.
In that respect, Obama learned from Reagan.

strangegrey wrote:THis economy's getting far worse under his command, NOT better.....and going on the Chin's show isn't doing it. What's going to happen next week? Letterman? the week after that, Conan?

I have no objections over the President leaving the Forbidden City ramparts and gladhanding with the masses.
If he chooses to run the country from a railroad car on a permanent whistlop stour tour across the plains, that would be just fine.

strangegrey wrote:Thankfully I wasn't fooled by EITHER candidate....and thankfully the guy fucking things up is a democrat. Perhaps the public will start to see liberals as they really are now....

Not sure what you mean by "really are now."
Aside from the corrosive influence of Wall Street, Obama is spearheading the most progressive agenda since LBJ.
Just the fact that he even talks about Japan-style highspeed rail, or universal healthcare, is an Armstrong-like leap ahead over the past eight years.

That you attempt to cast aspersions on the President shows how unqualified you are to make a credible, unbiased analysis of anything on the political or sociological spectrum.

Forty-three supplied the amber-entombed DNA of the deliberately misleading, agenda-driven neo-conservatives who now proliferate the Republican ranks. Notwithstanding, he presided over the most currupt Administration since Nixon, was directly responsible for not one, but two, recessions, and was a chronic and habitual liar.

Trifingly, W. didn't bother to include the three trillion dollars he threw to the wind in Iraq in his annual "budgets".

Do you recall his repeated denials about his campaign's involvement with Enron? All told, Enron's PAC and executives contributed $146,500 to Bush's first gubernatorial war chest in 1993 and 1994.

Nor did he ever indicate any sympathy for the hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraquis who were killed or maimed during the invasion...you know, before the "end to major hostilities".
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night

7, get off your soap box and just acknowledge that your view is not the only one. My opinion of Obama stands. I couldn't care less if you think I'm qualified to make an opinion or not. He is abysmal and after four years, I'm guessing most of this country (if we survive) will be screaming for CHANGE once again. Why do you think his "strongly disapprove" polll numbers have gone from 14% to 31% in just 60 days?

This is why I don't bother posting much on political topics anymore. It's a waste of time. You and TNC are still so blinded by your hatred of Bush that you can't see the disaster right in front of you that is sitting in the White House right now!

He's even worse than I thought he would be... and that's saying something!

Abysmal? He's the most proactive President since Clinton, and he's bringing much-needed change for the better to a nation that has been tyrannized by the worst President since Hoover.

We are hardly "blinded by hatred". Your blind adherence to your dwindling company's out-of-step marching orders shows just how easily you have been fooled and manipulated. Already, Obama has taken on more critical issues than W. did during his entire Administration.

3 Trillion? You are off by a bit there...on the plus side...buy about a factor of 3...about $900 billion so far...about $12 Billion a month...and that is counting the two months of the Obama presidency...

You can try and blame it all on Bush...he certainly has to shoulder a lot of it...but you are completely unobjective and it more than anything shows you are as, if not more, unqualified to make a credible unbiased analysis yourself.

You have the temerity to suggest that I'm even more unqualified to opine than Barb, Stu? Yet I have been an advocate of moderatism more often than not, and I've not seen an iota of open-mindedness from the right of this forum.

Fantastic response, Barb. You really proved your point. Wow...I stand corrected.

Shall we? Has anyone here gotten an advance copy of the brand-new Men Without Hats record?
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

You have the temerity to suggest that I'm even more unqualified to opine than Barb, Stu? Yet I have been an advocate of moderatism more often than not, and I've not seen an iota of open-mindedness from the right of this forum.

I have the temerity to suggest you need to pull the log from your eye before you go after the splinters in others.

But I still love ya like a brother...commie liberal socailist that you are!

I can admit to the failing of the conservatives, such as they have been lately, in our politics...yet you and others cannot seem to do the same for your political side. Whenever some failing of the liberals in government in brought up you and others fall back on the "Yeah, but Bush..." mantra...which is as bad as the "Yeah, but Clinton..." mantra espoused by the right.

Open your eyes and see that NONE of them...none...ZERO...have our best interests at heart...all they want is our votes...and they will happily spend our money...and our kids money...and our grandkids money ad infinitum...to get them.

And you have the temerity to use basic forms of sentence structure then, even worse, you cram in as many large words as you can find in the thesaurus.
