Anyways, I think Journey will do excellent this year. I can't say as to what sort of crowd they'll draw per show, but quality of performances, will be nothing short of mesmerizing, I'm sure.

Jubilee wrote:bluejeangirl76 wrote:Gunbot wrote:but Journey was so huge here before, do they try to recapture past glory or just concentrate on new markets instead?
They've already hit on a new market thanks only to Arnel so they might as well stick with it while they can. They can't recapture what they had in the 80s, especially in the US, so they may as well stick with what is working now, if they want to make any kind of bank.
Exactly. Why keep trying to crack the nut of a fickle US audience, when they can just mop up the gravy of a clamoring Asian market? On the other hand, by capitalizing on Arnel, don''t they also run the risk of being at the mercy of the cult-like following of their lead singer once again? Heaven forbid something happen to Arnel -- they'd be back to square one.

If it was all about quality, Journey would be on top of the world. They are pretty flawless in their execution when performing live.

No, they'd be at square zero. I consider myself one of the more understanding fans of this band, recognizing the talents of the whole rather than sucking the cock of narcissistic control-freak, but Arnel really is the last straw. I don't think I'd care to hear them if they lost another singer. Not just because Arnel's a nice guy, but because a credible band can have only so many voices before the whole thing becomes a tragedy.

Alas, quality means shit in this world. Hence why JSS remains tragically ignored, among other things. Hell, Perry himself hasn't reached household name status like Freddie Mercury. Which is retarded because he's easily in Mercury's league.

Not to take anything from Arnel... good singer, good guy, it seems...
I still think he got into bed with sharks.
And trampling the catalog the way Neal and Jon have allowed (meaning the retreads, not meaning Arnel) was the nail in the coffin as far as this band losing credibility and becoming a train wreck.

SA had 8 years.. and fried his voice.
AP's had a little more than a year?
AP is a fantastic find... but the real test will be how his voice holds out after a couple years of heavy touring.
The one posters reference to the singer having total control is incredibly ironic... cause in the case of AP, especiallyl in Asia... HE'S the drawing card... and eventually he'll start flexing his will as he (and his management) flex their muscles... NEals gonna get a buttload of karma on this one... and Deja Vu....

Work. My music isn't really open to review. It's just cover stuff and then my few originals and I'm not that into if anybody else likes that stuff or not. T'would be nice old man, but not imperitive. I know my limits.

I didn't get a performance review but I did get a 30 percent decrease in pay . I guess it's better than being unemployed.

Wrong. Arnel looks up to Neal and will never forget what he did for him, taking such a chance on him no matter what others were saying.

wow, that sucks GB, sorry to hear that. It is better, yes. I guess I'm half waiting for that other shoe to drop.

True, and I think that is one of the reasons SA didn't stand up more for himself over the years when he started having some issues. Steve understood the chance they took on him, being an unknown for the most part. Also, to a point made in a previous post... SA sounded good and the band was firing on all cylinders for a while during his tenure, like they seem to be with Arnel now. What happens after the 3 yr mark, which people have talked about with Arnel's work visa, and the long term impact singing this catalog will have on Arnel will determine where the band goes. They are still taking advantage of whatever attention they can get from Revelation, even though it has pretty much died down in the States, and I don't see them rushing to record anything soon. Even when Augeri was capable, they didn't rush recording new material, and I doubt that was because Jon and Neal didn't have songs around to through an album together. I think they are much more about being a touring band, playing the old hits, and catering to those fans than a band that wants to spend a lot of time in studio trying to be noticed with new material. Just my 2 cents as a more average Journey fan looking at the big picture.

This has Gideon's stamp of approval. Henceforth, it is cooler than anything Gunbot posts.
