Arnel talked about this last year I think. Wech, being Filipino probably watched it on TV. I'll let him elaborate. It's not made up, if that is what you are thinking. Look at the JSS situation, you shouldn't be surprised at this. It's old news but yet another reminder that none of these people (including Perry) are saints.

Depends. One could argue that they've always had a certain formula since "Escape." And if by moving forward you mean pulling the shit that Jon Bon Jovi has (i.e. turning from a rock band into country music rejects), I'll take Journey's "nostalgia" any day.

Bon Jovi did what it had to do to stay relevant.
100 shows last year, 100 sellouts. 150 million dollars.

You all kill me.

Are you after quality music or commercial success? The two don't always coincide. Journey puts out great shit, in my book, and they've had great success thus far.

Britney Spears is, once again, a megahit. "Relevant." Still wouldn't regard her work as great.

That's crap. Journey released quality music AND had success. Following Arrival, they have been releasing mediocre crap. FANS should be DEMANDING they release the best album they can and let the sales go where they go. Quality and success are not mutualy exclusive...unless you think Infinity through ROR are crap.

First of all, the only way fans can "DEMAND" anything is by voting with their wallets. Secondly, nobody, and I mean NOBODY, in the music industry is interested in "letting the sales go where they go". At the end of the day, this is a business.

I do agree though, quality and success do not have to be mutually exclusive.

Your expert opinion has been duly noted.

Journey released quality music AND had success.

Your obvious expertise and credentials in the analysis of what is and isn't crap notwithstanding, this is 2009. I hope I don't have to remind you of the fact that music climate changes; Journey's peak of success was in the '80s. This is 20 years later and they're enjoying more success with this "mediocre crap" than with Arrival.

Following Arrival, they have been releasing mediocre crap.

In your opinion. In addition to alerting you of the past 20 years, I'm afraid I have more bad news: you don't speak for the majority.

FANS should be DEMANDING they release the best album they can and let the sales go where they go.

If the sales and rave reviews have been any indication (I realize they're probably not in your world), the FANS are LIKING the "mediocre crap".

Quality and success are not mutualy exclusive...unless you think Infinity through ROR are crap.

Greatest hits with Steve Perry on vocals = 15 million sold

Greatest hits with Arnel Pineda on vocals = 800,000 Sold

Is it relevant? Probably not but it's Friday and we're due another rant so I'll just put it out there.

Oh and 'Aliens vs Monsters" is out. Who's the vocalist on "Who's crying now" in that movie?

Remind me to re- check your figures again after Arnel has had a career span of 20+ years on Journey material. I'm sure I'll be back then to do that! LOL

That was my point really. Arnel doesn't have time on his side. Even if he sings Perry under the table, the clock is ticking. Too bad Youtube wasn't around in 1998, Then we could be talking something akin to what Van Halen had, two distinct eras that were pretty different from each other music wise but both majorly successful in their own right. The difference being Sammy could write music and was able to lead VH in a new direction just by his sheer talent.

But he doesn't sing Perry under the table, unless we're talking about present-era Perry.

That's what I'm alluding too, comparing older Arnel to 30 something Perry, or road worn Perry to a fresh Arnel just will never work out. Let them write songs for Arnel and his type of voice and go from there in the future.

You're right, it's 2009. Only a crappy nostalgia band would release music that sounds like Survivor, along with a rerecorded GH package that sounds like it was recorded in Jonathan Cain's garage.

In your opinion. In addition to alerting you of the past 20 years, I'm afraid I have more bad news: you don't speak for the majority.

I speak for rmy majority...me.

If the sales and rave reviews have been any indication (I realize they're probably not in your world), the FANS are LIKING the "mediocre crap".

You're right, sales are not an indication of the opinion of the music. They are an indication of marketing to old people at Wal-Mart who have a twang of nostalgia on their brains.

Has anyone ever told you that you appear to be really badass when you tell people how to think? I like your method. Who needs fact or reason to be right?

I really don't care how I 'appear' to people on an internet message forum. I've said for years that Journey needs to take time to concentrate on recording a proper album. Instead we get half-assed production or crappy nostalgia music. That's not what Journey should be...I don't care how many copies it sells. If that satisfies your desire for your youth and 80's music, fine. But, it's not what it's about for me.

Yeah, it's a business...and if the artists participating in that business have no integrity then perhaps working at the Gap, or a turkey farm, would be a better career choice.

No, the GH with Arnel was only one disk of that package, so divide that by 2.

Huh? Arrival blows away Revelation. And Augeri's first tour blew everyone away.

I still LIKE Arrival but for me Generations was the quintissential Augeri effort. And album quality aside, I'm talking overall health of the band bizwise and and overall buzz in the real world. I can't argue, especially in this day and age with the sales of Revelation.
