Using Internet Explorer, go to this url and do the scan. It will let you know if you are infected and steps to take to repair it.

I just had new antivirus ware installed. I went to the site for the computer I used. They said avoid those scan sites. They can actually add the worm to your computer, or steal info. Be careful who you have do that. It said if you have new antivirus ware installed you will be o.k. Usually people who don't keep up with the virus updates and have old anti virus ware are at highest risks.

I do it myself.

This scan site is Microsoft, so I feel good about it.

Microsoft said if you manually update your computer you should be okay. They developed a patch last week.

As for re-formatting, it is actually recommended that you do it annually. Ugh!

Annually- oh God...
My desktop is still running 2000.
I was going to reformat anyway with XP, but dang, I hate to have it forced on me.
I didn't hear about this until today.

Reformatting doesn't mean changing Operating Systems. It's just to clean the crap off of it. I would go with XP if you have that option, though.

Yeah, it will. I ran one a few days ago and I'm running another now.

I started thirty minutes ago and it's still only 2% done!

No, I know. It's time to add xp to that machine. I have recording software on it and I'm loathe to have to set it all up again...

If you haven't already, check your add/remove programs update tab in the control panel. If you don't see Security Update for Windows XP (KB958644)...go hear and install it and you are good. Oh, and turn on your auto security updates if you haven't already.

I dunno who told you that but it is wrong. Imagine how much it would cost a company to reformat hundreds of computers annually.

Rick - I was going to try this but it says that the full scan might take up to a few hours to complete. Has your scan been running long?

It took almost an hour and a half. But I have 3 hard drives in this thing, and it scanned all of them.

I'm not too worried about my laptop. I've ran my anti-virus so any times the last couple weeks that my system is squeaky clean.
