Alien Project dissolved because of the death of his bassist, thus Perry going into retirement.
Right! That's what I said. I just didn't mention his band's name.
Your argument was that Perry went into retirement because the man died, not because he was having a hard time making it. Except... that's clearly the case. He didn't retire out of remorse or depression; he retired because the band fell apart.
Sorry Gideon, but as far as I have seen, it has always been said that it was the death of his friend and bandmate that led him to hang up the mic.
The band didn't fall apart - after his friend died, SP refused to replace him in the band as he felt it wouldn't be the same. Here's a link to the 1998 interview:

In the same paragraph (8th), it also mentions that (despite being self-exiled on a turkey ranch) executives at Columbia, where he had been about to sign a record deal before, put him in touch with Journey. They were the ones who gave HH the Alien Project demos - even though he was
considering quitting, he had more than a few people urging him onward. His career was going to happen in spite of his doubts.
You keep stating he had retired, but that is not accurate and as I mentioned before, he was in mourning and went home to get back on his feet and earn some money while he considered his future. It's a chapter in the life of more than a few of us. If he had truly retired, he would not have taken up Herbie on his offer in the first place.
