They're in better shape than they've been in since '86, ARGUABLY '83.

I won't agree with '83, but considering their tour attendance last year and the fact they actually are an active band I feely they are approaching '86 again.

If you and your backers in this campaign think D2 was a garbage manuever than the third lead singer (behind Rolie and Flieschman) should have opted to keep going @ Trial By Fire or perhaps not put Journey through the ensuing gag orders, permission slips and equal road play causes and then it might not have COME to Revelation D2.

I still think it would have, but still...

PS and stop blaming the exclusive licensing deal w/ WalMart as the other main huge reason behind Reveleation's succeess. EVERYbody can sell at Walmart but also everywhere ELSE if they feel like it (unless Walmart approaches them w/ a deal and they agree like the case of Revelation) so if anything Journey puts itself at a DISadvantage out o fthe chute gambling by agreeing to the Walmart only deal but both parties were willing and it worked out with only ONE retailer selling the album, rendering the sales success even more impressive.

You fucking bastard, waiting til I leave for a night's work to slip in some snake oil post on me eh you cocksucker? I get you are in love with Journey, and probably would make love to either Jon Cain or Neal Schon, but let's call it the way it really is; Your math is fuzzy. Can you imagine if every band pulled this latest bozo move by throwing in another disc to achieve some level of status? My God, it would cheapen music ten fold. That's exactly what Journey has done and continues to do; they cheapened themselves and their legacy with this rerecord bullshit and people laugh at them. They cheapen music in general, specifically rock n roll by lip syncing. So we have the fans laughing at how cheesy they are and we have other artist smirking about them behind their backs. You don't think other artists are laughing at these tools? Ask Sammy Hagar. Ask Brian May. Ask any respectable rock star/band about Journey. They will say they are very talented but they would be embarrassed to be linked to them. Steve Perry got out in time. He isn't associated with the downhill spiral these assclowns have decided to take. They weren't content on working hard, and being true to rock n roll or their fans- they went the cheap, fast and shallow route. Lipping live shows, ripping off fans, and getting caught. Second chance..Oops, fucked that up by stabbing saviour singer in back. Replace him with youtube antics, turns out to be good singer, but cheapens brand and legacy by having him sing retreads. God, this is a band I want to be a fan of.

Gotta tell ya Red13, was at Springsteen's shows last week and a couple fans and I were talking about the landscape of rock n roll. A number of bands came up but when someone mentioned Journey, everyone laughed out loud. They aren't taken seriously by a good percentage of rock fans and certainly not by their peers.

Bryan Adams is damned near down where Journey are.

Rock acts who are carrying the flag nowadays are the usual suspects, bands that have respect: U2, E Street and AC/DC.

Now tell me asshole, why am I full of shit? Why? I would love to know.

I remember in an interview to the Pacific Press(?) Arnel saying the same thing in Guam last year about not performing Journey songs without the rest of the group. However he did turn around and sing the songs anyway. I wonder if this is a case of someone in management coming across these videos after the prohibition was put into effect and realizing they may need to reiterate the message again since it wasn't taken seriously the first time.

Also, performing on T.V. without the band and having no writing credits on the songs himself, a recorded, over the air transmission of the music might require royalty payments (insert Sony, Steve perry here). Now that Arnel is in an American band and under the auspices of the RIAA, Copyright legalities probably need to be more closely followed when he is off doing his own thing.

I agree. I used to think I was happy that Journey was out playing live again, but after thinking about it, if they can't have the TBF lineup, I would rather they have just stopped after they forced SP out. That way, we could have just lived on the legendary status of the band's legacy. Since TBF, it's nothing close to what it once was.

I'm still a huge Journey fan, just of the Journey that I want to remember. If I want to see a tribute show, I'll go to a Frontiers show. I'll get a better seat, spend less money and see a better singer.

I agree. Re-recording was wrong and it did cheapen. Why redo what has been done and what can't be done better? Who prefers a cover band over the original? It's one thing for someone else to cover your music but another to cover it yourself...and using another singer to redo the same material that you became famous for is in every sense of the word, covering it. Who else does that? Yes, other bands get other singers which then do the old material in concert but they don't re-record the music they are known for with someone else. There may be some but I can't think of anyone else that has. If there has been then I would have the same opinion of them doing it as well. I think AP is a great singer but as I said, he did not do the old material better than Perry on the re-records and it shouldn't have been done at all since it's only covering what's been done and was made successsful with someone else. That is tainting the legacy of the band, imo.

Lip syncing in concert also cheapens. Pop acts do it so they can do dance routines or because they just can't sing and sound good without studio magic. Real singers and bands should never lip sync....if they can't do the music live like any bar band can then they shouldn't be out there on the big stage charging people money for something they could sit at home and listen to.

Very true. If people can't deal with someone disagreeing with their opinion on something then why come on a message board and enter a discussion. Also ...if they can't debate their rationals to their opinions in manner to the points that are being discussed without having to resort to something like " no one cares what you think" then they shouldn't enter a discussion either. Bring an argument to the issue...if you can't then leave out comments that have nothing to do with whats being discussed and only serve to prove you can't come up with a good counter argument to points made.

Thanks for that Phyliss, but I just woke up and thought that it made no real sense to post my thoughts here. They probably just brought everyone down who does happen to be a fan and that was not my objective. While I may despise these ratfucks, I don't want to be the pisser and downer to the fans who still get off on the band and the music. I think I do bring a valid argument to the table, but some here would rather not want to hear it and I get that. I am sorry to all in this thread except steveo or whatever his fruity assed name is and that real fruit Robbie G- you are a real cocksucker. Go spin Happy to Give and ram a 12 inch phallus up your butthole and smile for hours on end, all the while peering out into the Tennessee Valley and hoping some hot Cowboy will ride up to you and sweep you away and take you for the bareback ride of your life. Oh what fun!

A dissenting opinion is almost close to not allowed here any more and that is a very dangerous thing- it's approaching that never before thought of land of Back talk. All positive all the time, no opposing view points allowed. So, yeah Robbie, I get it. Journey all the time, always great, never tainted.

If he is sticking up his ass...shouldn't it be "Happy to Take"?

I guess the lyrics though fit..."Where is the one, someone who's happy (happy to give)"

I guess if he is lonely?

So true. If I mention Journey to anyone I know who love 70s and 80s rock, no matter the age, they don't own any Journey. They consider it light rock.
Think about Perry on ESPN with A.J. discussing how DSB became their song, and he says at one point in the story that 15 guys were at the bar and they won't admit they listen to Journey. What's that about? Journey wasn't cool enough, I guess. But that was rude with Steve right there as part of the interview and the voice of those songs.

When I saw them opening for the Stones in 81, people were actually booing them. In High School, you either liked Journey or hated them. There was no middle ground. Wearng an Escape T-Shirt to class after the concert got me either, "Cool" or "That band sucks". Ozzy, Van Halen and Rush were big at that time, and even Foreigner was considered more rock than Journey. I think Open Arms was the song that created the divide between Rock fans and Journey fans. That song was just too sappy and the band got defined by it.

Jana,

Journey was never "cool" but from 1977 to 1986 they were good enough that it didn't matter. My friends always made fun of me for being a fan and I had to hide my cd's and never wore t shirts etc. After awhile, I think, their legacy started to shine through in the ways of jukeboxs across this land in bars everywhere and commercials and movies, etc. Their classic pop songs were standing the test of time. People were respecting that. They had a concrete legacy and I for one was proud to be a fan and thought they should definitely be in the HOF based on that body of work (77-86) alone. From there on out though, IMHO, the legacy doesn't even exist any longer, with lip syncing, half assed efforts, and rerecords, and well, and well, I don't want to be negative so I will just end this now.

This seems to vary by region. In Michigan, during that time period, Journey was the soundtrack to the high school years. Some may call it cheesy, but every graduating class in my high school chose a Journey song as their class song, even though our overall tastes would be categorized as leaning towards hard rock/heavy metal.

Never have gotten any respect though.....

So true. If I mention Journey to anyone I know who love 70s and 80s rock, no matter the age, they don't own any Journey. They consider it light rock.
Think about Perry on ESPN with A.J. discussing how DSB became their song, and he says 15 guys were at the bar and Journey was requested. Then he goes on that they won't admit they listen to Journey. What's that about? Journey wasn't cool enough, I guess. But that was rude with Steve right there as part of the interview and the voice of those songs.

They had a concrete legacy and I for one was proud to be a fan and thought they should definitely be in the HOF based on that body of work (77-86) alone. From there on out though, IMHO, the legacy doesn't even exist any longer, and well, I don't want to be negative so I will just end this now.

This seems to vary by region. In Michigan, during that time period, Journey was the soundtrack to the high school years. Some may call it cheesy, but every graduating class in my high school chose a Journey song as their class song, even though our overall tastes would be categorized as leaning towards hard rock/heavy metal.

That's cuz the guys were too cool to vote in the election for class song ...

I love your imagery in the part of the post I took out for space's sake, just throwin that out there.

Anyway, I don't think you can't dissent here regarding the band. Most people on here are well aware of your views about the band, so when you come on and reiterate said views frequently, it's a "been there, done that" kinda thing.

I have no problem with people who will only listen if SP is on board or whatever other departed singer, think Rev is terrible, think the band was done after 1986, think it's better than ever now (even tho that is patently ridiculous) etc etc. I just wouldn't be spending much time on here if I still weren't interested in the music.

I'm not sure if this applies to you, but I know some here say that they don't even listen to the old stuff any more because of all that has gone on. At that point, why the fuck would any one want to come on here? I mean yeah, there's a sense of community here, but come on, we're all 1s and 0s 360 days of the year besides those gigs you might meet some people up at maybe 5 days of the year. If you've reached the point where your disdain for the band's current state won't even let you talk about the older stuff or listen to it, then I really see no purpose in coming on here, at least with any frequency. Just my 2c, and again, I'm not saying that's you. I just know there are some here who feel that way and express it ad nauseam. Gets a little old for some, I'm sure.

Freebird and Stairway to Heaven were usually the choices, except when I graduated the Preppies running Student Council somehow came up with Putting on the ritz by Taco.

I understand what you are saying, but that band is not bigger anywhere than here in Southern Calif. They were huge and still get played on the radio. My point was/is, although they may have had the prom song everywhere, they were still seen as "cheese rock."
