Postby Don » Thu Apr 23, 2009 9:21 am

Just looked at the Greek's Summer/ fall schedule, good stuff coming this year.

War with Tierra and Malo
Michael McDonald with Boz Scaggs
George Thorogood with Johnny Lang
Loggins and Messina
Heart with the Bangles

Also if you are interested: Jackson Browne, Doobies/Allman Bros, Chris Isaac, Tom Jones and of course the Wavefest.

Gun, are you high this evening?

Those acts are pure shit, with the lone exception of Heart and they just turned to shit by adding the fucking Bangles. Say it with a straight face- The Bangles. Yeah yeah yeah, we can all jack it to Suzannah Hoffs after their set, but come on already? Heart just sold out to the almighty dollar. I bet that show isn't half filled.

As for the others, pfft, garbage. Of all of them, Tom Jones will sell out. My money says none of the others will, and it only holds 6,000.

Dean is partly right, most of the bill is shit with the exceptions being The Bangles and George Thorogood. Yes we all know that we can polish the knob to Hoffs but the bottom line, that bitch can sing. And I'm not a big bitch singer fan by any stretch. Hoffs' has the shit. Thorogood is the real deal too and true to his roots.

Now for Heart, I know Deano is a big fan but I was in row number one flipping them the bird in Indy last year. They sound ok, Ann still sounds decent but her and a barn door would need a competition to see who has the most surface area. I'm still not sure why they would alienate 49% of their potential fans on the last tour but wtf do I know. Fuck'm anyhow, if it wasn't for some outside writers (insert Diane Warren here), they would not have received the "highest" commercial success.

The Greek's just one of those places you can go have a drink and relax, walk to Hollywood Blvd or have my son pick me up after the show (stacked parking sucks). Very much a Wine and Cheese type setting. Right up against Griffith Park. Not like the Forum where I saw iron Maiden, two different worlds.

It sounds like The Murat in Indy. It's a small venue that is incredible. I seen Journey there in 98/99 and it was a great show with Augeri.

First off, I LOVE Celtic Woman. I 'd go in a heartbeat.

Secondly, the LA Sports Arena. LOL, as you know Gun, (you filthy cocksucker), I was there last week twice. I have no idea why but that's the only place Bruce plays if given the choice. He just likes that place, and introduced it as the "Dump that Jumps, the Joint that Don't Disappoint and the house that Rock built." It sure is a shithole but man did it sound good and he blew the roof off that place.

Gunbot, we need to go see the fuckin Corrs. They are much better than CW IMO.

Best show of the lot. Wouldn't be surprised if some blues legends show up on stage.

I'd rather see these guys over John Mayer anyday.

Tom Jones on there would be a great concert. I kept seeing him on TV shows promoting his new CD 24 Hours. I thought of Tom Jones as more of an older nostalgic act. I was shocked at how great the songs were. Fantastic, all soul, which I love soul and R&B music. Song after song on this CD is great. This guy is still relevant at his age and will have I'm sure a lot of new music in the concert. His voice is still a force to be reckoned with.

So true, Steve. I encourage everyone to buy this CD. I love it. And what an entertainer, who still has such a passion for performing. I hope he has a concert in Florida. I will be there.

I am still suprised at the small venues they are playing also, especially with their new fanbase and the reamergeance of their popularity. Journey can start playing the 10,000 seat arenas again, but instead their still playing casinos again this summer. They played at the greek theatre in LA which is 5,700 seats and sold out two nights which is around 11,400 people total. Why not play a nice indoor venue that seats 10,000 to 11,000, you have much better sound quality and all the people are there one night, instead of two.

They can play em but they would only be half full. Those days of playing arenas are long long gone.

but instead their still playing casinos again this summer.

For a solo tour that's about what they can sell.

Good point on the one night vs two, but there were two acts along with them. I bet you Journey would struggle to sell out the Greek by themselves.

If Perry was with the band, they would still be playing the 10,000 seat venues...no doubt about it.

I dont think they would struggle to sell out one night...for two nights yes they would struggle. I mean their popularity has really soared in the last year especially.

I was looking on Journey's website and noticed they actually are playing some good size arenas in the summer. They will be playing at the reno events center which seats 7,500, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum seats 17,000 +, Saratoga Performing Arts Center 25,000, and the New Orleans Arena which seats 19,000 plus. I looked and Heart is playing different venues on these dates, so I wonder if anyone will be playing with Journey, and if so who will join them?

A few points, or an opinion here, and it's not meant to blast them for blasting sakes-

Reno holds 7,500 but that doesn't mean they'll fill it.

Nassau does hold 16,000 and my guess is thet'll have support acts for this one. I guess NYC area is big enough to book an arena this size, but I still can't see them filling it or even getting 10K, especially in a hard economy but maybe I'm wrong.

My money is Saratoga and New Orleans are either transformed into Theatre type seating or those stops are part of a festival with many groups playing.
