Here's a newsflash for anyone else who has a problem with me: I don't conform to opinions simply because they come from a "revered" or "older" poster around here. When people espouse Perry apologia or Arnel apologia or whatever, I demand to know why I should believe them. Is Perry some sort of god who hasn't committed indiscretion against the band or humankind? Maybe. It's the burden of the people to prove it. I am swayed by evidence and the more apologists (and this goes for anyone) rant and rave, the harder I shove back.

I have nothing against Steve Perry or the shit he pulled through during TBF. It's my favorite album and I'm in it for the music. But the logician in me sees glaring problems with some opinions of other posters, and so I discuss it or debate it or refute it (attempt to, anyway).

Not everyone wants to 'debate' the merits of their opinions, or to try to convince you that their way of thinking is fact. Many people just want to share their opinions, love for, disdain for, whatever... of the topic at hand. It becomes ugly when someone shouts down another for giving their view of the topic. Demanding to know why you should believe someone isn't necessarily your place here, unless someone is trying to convince you of factual information. Most of the BS around here is just that... BS. There are less than a handful of participants here that can honestly be looked to for factual information, and they rarely jump in because they're often attacked by one side or the other when they do. It's supposed to be fun.

You once called me a troll. That's hilarious, considered I've been here longer than you, have participated in MR functions, and have met and had a wonderful time with many of the current and former posters of this site. I've had my share of knock-down, drag-outs, and don't claim to be anything other than a fan of the music that gave me many great memories, and lots of new friends. By trying to control others' opinions and ridiculing them for their POV, I believe the troll may be you. Discuss it all you want, debate it if it's truly a debate, but don't refute someone's opinion. I got agree with her here Gideon. To demand a debate, or a justification for someone giving their opinion is pretty arrogant of you. I've had my share of arguments on this board. But one of the reasons I come here less and less is because of the amount of arguing over every single damn issue. Call it debate, call it lively discussion..when you have two people trying to one up each other, it's an argument and quite honestly, it gets old.

I haven't bothered reading who is involved this time, but it's an interesting phenomenon here, the defense teams only come out of the wood work depending on the defendee's popularity or pretty pictures or whatever other things they find make someone a perfectly nice guy/gal, and the ones they lecture are such horrible people . But otherwise it's ok for the same people they lecture to attack other people if their "status" here doesn't reach highly in their opinion. It's amusing actually

There's nothing really to 'move on' from. I traditionally don't get into long drawn out debates with him for reasons previously mentioned. I do think he has a natural debate style of posting that is made up of good logic. I just don't think everyone that disagrees with him is 'out to get him'. The same could be said for him given how passionate he is to share his opinions with everyone. I tend to agree with more than I disagree with him, so for me, it's not that big of a deal.

All of that, coupled with the clear fact that many people spend 100% of their time on message boards taking every word posted WAY too seriously and viewing everything as a fight/attack/problem/debate - whatever you wish to call it. Granted, it happens to everyone at some point or another... I've been pulled in a select number of times myself, we all have... but in the grand scheme of things, good god, unclench, ok people? Post a crude smiley or a picture of Gary Coleman with a funny caption, finish your Frosted Flakes, lighten up, and go have a good day.

I keep telling myself this is just a silly ol’e messageboard (no offense, Andrew) … nothing should be taken seriously … yet, it’s easy to get caught up in the hyperbole (hypersensitivity will do that to ya). That's why taking a few days off from the madness is good for the soul .

I maintain, though, that there is a distinction (however subjective) between obvious, over-the-top posting styles and the arrogant, narcissistic prose’s practiced by a select few here. And, then, there are the mean-spirited comments directed at band members and each other, as touched on by Andrew.

Most people here haven't seen the original, Perry or JSS either but that doesn't stop them. The majority probably have seen Augeri only live.

I won't judge Arnel or Augeri on Perry songs. They had their run on the charts in the 80's , that's the past. Arnel's problem is the songs he will be known for are written by Cain and not him (unless he has some hidden talent on writing rockers that hasn't been exposed yet), so he gets stuck being the instrument of whatever Jon thinks is good.

I think there was a stretch of around 500 shows in 5 years, pretty tough, and despite that he didn't step the songs down until his solo tour when he was already around 45 years old.
Arnel is already 41. Even with out the luggage of all those shows based around pre -Captured tunes his voice is going to probably change quite a bit when he hits 45.

My thoughts are just space out the shows like they have and continue in the original key. But to step down AND limit the shows, why even bother if it's that difficult on his voice?
