OBVIOUSLY you don't watch too many Steelers games to know how important Ben Roethlisberger is to his team. If you paid attention, the running game was basically non existent, and it was Ben who took the team on his shoulders and delivered with big pass after big pass, in crucial situations. Yeah, he didn't have a good game against Seattle, big deal, he played well enough to win the game, and DID make some key plays that iced the football game.

Monumental fuck-ups.. are you talking about yourself again? Jesus Christ, without the plays he makes single handily the last 5 seasons, Pittsburgh's nowhere near the caliber team they are today. He gets out of trouble better than what David Blaine ever can do. He's a wayyyy better FOOTBALL player than Manning or Brady, and when it's time to grind it out, Bens the quarerback you take in ANY SITUATION.

How does the defense bail him out? This statement can't be more false. As GOOD as the Steelers defense was this season, THEY were the burden late in most football games this season, and it was BEN that led his unit down field, 80 yards consistently each game in those situations against TOUGH as nails defense. These games included:

Baltimore: Monday Night game at home against the Ravens, he brought the Steelers down from 10 to lead his team into overtime, eventually making a nice march to put his kicker in the situation to win the game.

The victory, which came after the Steelers scored 17 unanswered points and squandered a late lead, wasn't sealed until Jeff Reed snuck a 46-yard field goal attempt just inside the left goal post at 8:55 of overtime.

It gave the Steelers a 3-1 record as well as first place in the AFC North. It may also have represented another stage in the maturation of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger threw for 191 yards and the touchdown that jump-started the Steelers' offense in the third quarter. In truth, he may have provided the jolt his team needed earlier.

So frustrated by the Steelers play through the first two quarters Roethlisberger said he "screamed" at his teammates at halftime.

I agree, as a recovering drug addict, he would be very concerned about being in a position to have to take pain medications again. Not to mention it's major surgery, probably requiring a long period of rehab to follow. At his age, it doesn't seem to be worth the effort. God knows he doesn't need the money. But if he doesn't need surgery he might just keep playing. Personally, I wish he'd just retire to Hattiesberg and go ride around on his tractor.

Quarterback Brett Favre has remained publicly silent about his possible Second Annual Unretirement.

But his actions might be telling the whole story.

Jim Souhan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune recently reported that Favre again is working out with a Hattiesburg high school team.

“His arm is there,” said J.D. Simpson, friend of Favre and chaplain of the Oak Grove high school team, told Souhan. “He’s had the same problem with his left arm that he’s having with his right. He told me John Elway had the same problem in his last year. It’s a certain throwing angle or motion that hurts. It doesn’t hurt all the time, though, and just looking at him throwing, you can’t tell there’s anything wrong with it.”

To prove his point, Simpson had this to say: “I help out with the receivers, and he threw a few that bounced off some facemasks out there.”

So either Favre can still bring the heat, or Troy Williamson has some young cousins in Mississippi.

Regardless, even if Favre told Vikings coach Brad Childress last week that Favre won’t be playing, we simply won’t believe it until Favre isn’t lining up under center for Minnesota in Week One.

“I think this decision is tougher for him than any of them,” Simpson said. “He really sees Minnesota as a legitimate team that can go all the way. I think in his mind he was retired, but the quality of that team makes this a tough one.”

The Vikings broke their silence Monday, with president Mark Wilf saying the team is considering the supposedly retired star.

Precisely. There's no real need to throw the "deep" ball either. They nickle and dime you with short passes and the occasional deep ball in that system. AP, the system, and the fact that they play in an indoor stadium is why he'll come back. And he's got the rest of his life to not be addicted to vicodin. Charley Walters of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that free-agent quarterback Brett Favre will meet Tuesday with renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews regarding the possibility of surgery on Favre’s partially torn biceps tendon.

Favre reportedly missed an appointment last week with Dr. Andrews.

Walters says that Favre is expected to have surgery later this week to “release the tendon,” and the rehab is expected to require six to eight weeks.

That timetable would allow Favre to miss the offseason practices of the Vikings or whichever team for which he decides to play in 2009, and it would allow him to participate in training camp.

Walters points out that the biceps tendon is “one of several sources” of pain in Favre’s shoulder, and that a more extensive procedure ultimately could be needed to restore Favre’s health.
