I love the guy too. And I can let one comeback from retirement go by....he gets a pass on that one.

But to try it again?? Nope, just retire already or if you are not retiring....don't say that you are!!

It's his choice. He's the greatest QB to ever play. The last 2 seasons he's 22-10 and has thrown 50 touchdowns. That's better than 3/4 of the average-ass QB's playing today.

Are you channeling me or what? That's exactly what I feel, except he isn't the greatest QB to ever play. Top 5, maybe, but dude, greatest? Umm, no. Marino, Montana, Bradshaw, Elway, Namath, Unitas...come on dude, back away from the crackpipe.

However, I do agree he has earned the right to do whatever he likes. I love the guy.

Yes, I'm channeling you oh great Deano! You're right, he may not be THE best ever, although he IS statistically, but in the top 5 for sure. He's better then Bradshaw ever was. Give Favre that defense and he'd have 4 rings or more, although It's dumb to only judge QB's by rings. If that's the case, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson and Mark Rypien are better than Marino. That's stupid. They can't play defense and they can't help it if they have no running game. That would actually make Marino the best ever, and that's probably correct. Everyone knew he HAD to throw it and they still couldn't stop it. Same with Dan Fouts. Those 2 would have as many rings as Bradshaw and Montana if they had played with that talent around them and those defenses.

And get Namath the hell out. the guy threw more int's than TD's. He's legendary for his swagger and his prediction, but isn't in the top 20 QB's ever. Elway, hell yes, top 5. Unitas, eh..., played in an era when defenses weren't NEARLY as sophisticated, as fast, or as strong.

My top 3 would be Marino, Favre and Elway in any order that you want to put them.
But yes, Brett has every right to do what the hell he wants. The Packers embarrased him and insulted him. He owes them nothing now. I hope he KILLS them this year.

The most overated QB in the NFL right now is Ben Roethlisberger. Makes monumental fuck-ups and is bailed out by his defense over and over. He's got 2 rings  One of them his team won in SPITE of him. He can't carry Favre's or Marino's jock strap.

OBVIOUSLY you don't watch too many Steelers games to know how important Ben Roethlisberger is to his team. HE was the reason we made a run at the Superbowl in '05 (let alone MAKING THE GAME SAVING TACKLE AFTER BETTIS FUMBLED ON THE ONE.) If you paid attention, the running game was basically non existent, and it was Ben who took the team on his shoulders and delivered with big pass after big pass, in crucial situations. Yeah, he didn't have a good game against Seattle, big deal, he played well enough to win the game, and DID make some key plays that iced the football game.

Monumental fuck-ups.. are you talking about yourself again? Jesus Christ, without the plays he makes single handily the last 5 seasons, Pittsburgh's nowhere near the caliber team they are today. He gets out of trouble better than what David Blaine ever can do. He's a wayyyy better FOOTBALL player than Manning or Brady, and when it's time to grind it out, Bens the quarerback you take in ANY SITUATION.

How does the defense bail him out? This statement can't be more false. As GOOD as the Steelers defense was this season, THEY were the burden late in most football games this season, and it was BEN that led his unit down field, 80 yards consistently each game in those situations against TOUGH as nails defense. These games included:

Baltimore: Monday Night game at home against the Ravens, he brought the Steelers down from 10 to lead his team into overtime, eventually making a nice march to put his kicker in the situation to win the game.

The victory, which came after the Steelers scored 17 unanswered points and squandered a late lead, wasn't sealed until Jeff Reed snuck a 46-yard field goal attempt just inside the left goal post at 8:55 of overtime.

It gave the Steelers a 3-1 record as well as first place in the AFC North. It may also have represented another stage in the maturation of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger threw for 191 yards and the touchdown that jump-started the Steelers' offense in the third quarter. In truth, he may have provided the jolt his team needed earlier.

So frustrated by the Steelers play through the first two quarters Roethlisberger said he "screamed" at his teammates at halftime.

"Very unusual," wide receiver Santonio Holmes said of Roethlisberger's outburst, "but being a captain, that's what we expect from him." He came in and stated his claim."

"I was tired of being booed," Roethlisberger said, "I was tired of being embarrassed on offense. I told the guys that. I said, 'There's no need for it.'

The Very next week in Jacksonville:
Roethlisberger engineered an 11-play, 80-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter, and that proved to be the difference in another classic Jaguars-Steelers game. Roethlisberger may have turned in the play of the game when he completed a third-down pass to Hines Ward right before he was slammed to the turf.

The 11-10 win against San Diego:
"I would say it was frustrating," quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said of the Steelers' inability to score a touchdown, "but we felt good out there on offense."

Roethlisberger redeemed himself for his three-interception performance last week against the Indianapolis Colts. He completed 31 of 41 passes for 308 yards and did not throw an interception. He was a perfect 6 for 6 on the Steelers' final drive, which resulted in Jeff Reed's game-winning 32-yard field goal with 11 seconds remaining.

Dallas:
A 47-yard completion from Roethlisberger to Holmes jump-started the offense, and the Steelers overcame the Cowboys' goal-line stand to score 10 points and tie the game with 2:10 left in the fourth quarter.

That set the stage for the biggest play of Townsend's season.

Very next week @ Baltimore for the division title, and a first round bye:
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger marched the Steelers 92 yards and capped a 12-play drive with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter. After producing the only touchdown of the game and then weathering a late push by the Ravens' offense, the Steelers wrapped up the AFC North and assured themselves of no worse than the No. 2 seed in the playoffs

And we all know what he did against Arizona in the Superbowl:
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger rallied the Steelers after they squandered a 13-point lead, and his late-game heroics produced a 27-23 win and one of the most memorable finishes in Super Bowl history.

Roethlisberger led the Steelers on one of his patented fourth-quarter comebacks, and he capped a 78-yard drive with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes with 35 seconds left in the game.

Count them, that's 6 nail biting games... games in which the #1 defense FALTERED to put teams away, and it was actually BEN and his offense picking the defense up, and securing a win. Ben Roethlisberger is captain comeback, and he did it on the biggest stage of all.

When will be the GOD DAMN DAY that Ben Roethlisberger gets the respect he deserves? He's clearly, far and beyond an elite quarterback in the NFL. I guess he has to just keep winning Superbowls to be lumped in "just an average Quarterback" company. Fuck that. He's the type of quarterback ANY team envys, and they let it show by making dumbass comments as madsplash just did. My advice: watch a Steelers football game rather than looking at stats, then come back and tell me if the man's overrated. Oh, and by the way, He has more Superbowl rings than Marino, and Favre COMBINED. Stick that up your blow hole.

Have a nice day.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If Manning had that defense, he'd have 5 or 6 rings by now. Roethlisberger is an average QB. Takes a brilliant person to ride a crotch rocket without a helmet. What a dumbass.

And I watch Pittsburgh play almost every week, unfortunately, because I'm too cheap to buy a dish. If Pittsburgh hadn't been so stupid and not drafted Marino, they would have won rings in the 80's instead of being a joke in that decade.

P.S Are you gonna go to Santonio Holmes' arraignment? I'm sure there'll be lots of Steeler fans there, watching their Super Bowl MVP, getting his ass slapped for being a drug thug. Classy stuff. What a loser.

Put that in YOUR blowhole.

Weak.

Manning is nowhere near a better FOOTBALL player when being compared to Big Ben. You want to play that kind of game? Fine.. if Ben had the offensive line that Peyton Manning or Tom Brady has, then he would be far above, better than the rest. Put Tom Brady or Manning behind a line like the Steelers (who give up 45+ a year), and I bet they fail as much as you failed to make a worthy statement. Manning or Brady RARELY get sacked, and at times, has AT LEAST 5-6 seconds to release the football down field. If one of them gets their jersey dirty, they are off to the races bitching to the first receiver/ref they see.

What Holmes/Roethlisberger do OFF the field is not the focus of this debate. Try again.

Watch this short clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z5dqelV ... re=related

After this, tell me how 'average' this looks to you. (These plays aren't even CLOSE to the unbelievable plays he makes week in and out.)

I say stick to predicting to when Steve Perry's new album is going to be released, because obviously your sports smack is moronic.

I say you're a typical Steeler fan. Ben sucks. It's OK to admit it.

Weak.

Why is he tough? Because he's big? He's always hurt and his career won't last more than 4 or 5 more years. He's too dumb to go down and not get hurt.

He and most Steeler fans make me laugh.

I'm not wasting no more time on Madspash, that guy is a fuckin' idiot.

As to you, NIG, the rivalry is going to be in full force the next couple years, and I see Flacco making a push and putting Baltimore in position to make a run to a few shots at a division title. Like you said, I hate Baltimore, but damn to I respect them. Should be a good ride the next years to come. Put on your seat belt.

ESPN reported on Friday:

"The health of quarterback Brett Favre's throwing arm appears to be a pivotal factor in whether he comes out of retirement to play for the Minnesota Vikings.

A source close to the situation told ESPN's Jeremy Schaap on Friday that X-rays of Favre's right shoulder -- he has pain resulting from a torn biceps tendon -- have been sent to the Vikings and that the X-rays are in the process of being evaluated. If it is determined by Favre's and the Vikings' medical people that he needs anything less than "major" surgery on his shoulder, Favre will unretire to play for the Vikings, the source said. If "major" surgery is necessary, Favre will remain retired, the source said."

Favre likely won’t want to have any type of surgery, major or arthroscopic, because of his past addiction to painkillers.

Though memories of Favre’s struggles have faded with time, he spent 46 days at a drug rehab clinic before the 1996 season to control a Vicodin addiction that had taken control of his life.

“The biggest problem wasn’t getting the pills down,” Favre wrote in his autobiography Favre: For The Record, “it was keeping them down. Most of the time, I’d just throw them right back up and they’d land on the floor. No big deal. I’d just pick the pills out of the vomit, rinse them off and try again.”

Absent an alternate strategy for managing the pain resulting from surgery, Favre’s only option would be to bite the bullet and deal with the discomfort.

For a guy who already has retired twice, it’s likely more than enough to keep him from coming back again.

I agree, as a recovering drug addict, he would be very concerned about being in a position to have to take pain medications again. Not to mention it's major surgery, probably requiring a long period of rehab to follow. At his age, it doesn't seem to be worth the effort. God knows he doesn't need the money. But if he doesn't need surgery he might just keep playing. Personally, I wish he'd just retire to Hattiesberg and go ride around on his tractor.

this was posted on profootballtalk.com:

Favre Working Out With Local High School, Again
Posted by Mike Florio on May 11, 2009, 5:00 p.m.
Quarterback Brett Favre has remained publicly silent about his possible Second Annual Unretirement.

But his actions might be telling the whole story.

Jim Souhan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune recently reported that Favre again is working out with a Hattiesburg high school team.

“His arm is there,” said J.D. Simpson, friend of Favre and chaplain of the Oak Grove high school team, told Souhan. “He’s had the same problem with his left arm that he’s having with his right. He told me John Elway had the same problem in his last year. It’s a certain throwing angle or motion that hurts. It doesn’t hurt all the time, though, and just looking at him throwing, you can’t tell there’s anything wrong with it.”

To prove his point, Simpson had this to say: “I help out with the receivers, and he threw a few that bounced off some facemasks out there.”

So either Favre can still bring the heat, or Troy Williamson has some young cousins in Mississippi.

Regardless, even if Favre told Vikings coach Brad Childress last week that Favre won’t be playing, we simply won’t believe it until Favre isn’t lining up under center for Minnesota in Week One.

“I think this decision is tougher for him than any of them,” Simpson said. “He really sees Minnesota as a legitimate team that can go all the way. I think in his mind he was retired, but the quality of that team makes this a tough one.”

I believe that if he is physically able to play, he should play.....he has earned that right. He truly wanted to remain in Green Bay. When he realized it wasn't going to be a possibility, he only wanted to go to Minnesota. But no way in hell would Ted Thompson allow it. His heart was not in it with the Jets. If he does goes to Minnesota, you will see a charged up Favre who will be on a mission to try and lead the Vikings to the Superbowl. He has a point to prove - not to the Green Bay Packer team but to Thompson....

The Minnesota Vikings have spoken: Yes, they're interested in Brett Favre.

The Vikings broke their silence Monday, with president Mark Wilf saying the team is considering the supposedly retired star.

"He's a Hall of Fame quarterback. He's a great competitor," Wilf said. "Ultimately, you'll have to ask Brett what his plans are, but sure there's interest in Brett Favre. But again, it's part of a process we have in general with any of our players. We're always looking to make our team better."

Several conflicting and contradictory media reports swirled last week around the possibility of Favre, who retired for the second time at the end of last season, returning to play for the Vikings. Neither Favre nor the Vikings commented last week, which only added more confusion to the situation.

Favre was released by the New York Jets on April 28 and issued a statement that said, "At this time, I am retired and have no intention of returning to football." He hasn't been heard from since.

"That type of decision is up to Brett Favre, and I'll leave it to Brett Favre to give you that answer," Wilf said.

His agent, Bus Cook, has said that Favre remains retired to his knowledge. Cook did not immediately return a phone message from the Associated Press on Monday.

Pretty much. If Favre was really going to stay retired, then there would be a better effort on his part to put a stop to all this nonsense. It's all depending on how his arm feels, but he has more time than he did last year to get in throwing shape, PLUS with a running back like Adrian Peterson behind him if he signs, then that will take pressure off of his arm and run a more quick pass, west coast system in Minnesota.

Precisely. There's no real need to throw the "deep" ball either. They nickle and dime you with short passes and the occasional deep ball in that system. AP, the system, and the fact that they play in an indoor stadium is why he'll come back. And he's got the rest of his life to not be addicted to vicodin. Fucker should start swallowing them like they're in a Pez dispenser and he'd have a great year.

Report: Favre Planning Surgery On Torn Biceps Tendon

Postby NealIsGod » Tue May 19, 2009 5:03 am

Charley Walters of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that free-agent quarterback Brett Favre will meet Tuesday with renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews regarding the possibility of surgery on Favre’s partially torn biceps tendon.

Favre reportedly missed an appointment last week with Dr. Andrews.

Walters says that Favre is expected to have surgery later this week to “release the tendon,” and the rehab is expected to require six to eight weeks.

That timetable would allow Favre to miss the offseason practices of the Vikings or whichever team for which he decides to play in 2009, and it would allow him to participate in training camp.

Walters points out that the biceps tendon is “one of several sources” of pain in Favre’s shoulder, and that a more extensive procedure ultimately could be needed to restore Favre’s health.

Funny how his buddies on tv like Steve Marriucci goes on air and just parrots what Favre says to them as fact. Does Favre say to Mooch, "yeah, I'm coming back but tell them I'm staying retired"...? Or does he tell him he's staying retired and Mooch is actually stupid enough to believe it?
