OT: Adam Lambert on Idol

I think Danny has the better overall voice for rock, pop rock, etc. But Adam, if he can dial down that shrill shit, could very much have a Prince like vibe going. Adam will win, but he will need some serious hand holding from his handlers.

Here's my take -

Adam - lots of stage presence and confidance. Can hit high notes, but has a thin, nasally tone. At first it he was the most innovative performer, but I have been less impressed with him as the weeks go by. Way too predictable. Let me guess - he'll dress like the rock star that he isn't, (at least not yet.) utilize some lighting effects, and whatever song he is singing about halfway through it he'll show everybody that he can hit the high notes. Oh yeah, and if the song choice or theme of the week is contrary to that, he'll re-arrange the song to give him the opportunity to scream regardless if it is appropriate for the song or not. His version of U2 last night was an abomination. Unfortunately, the judges cut him way too much slack and never call him on his offenses. Worse yet, they proclaim him the best singer when he clearly is not, and the winner rather than letting the public decide. BTW - Vocal range is more than just singing high notes. It also encompasses using different textures, emoting, and yes, low note as well. Adam posseses none of that.

Danny - Great voice, nice tone, but relies on using the blusey/gravelly part of his voice too much - almost like shouting. Not a bad thing for a gospel or blues artist, but not as usable if you are going to be a pop artist.

Kris - Very nice voice, perfect for pop music ala Coldplay. Overall the most talented musician of the bunch. Competent on keyboards and guitar and arranging - makes me think he would also be capable of being one of the better composers as well. Lacks personality so he has become underrated but overall I think the most deserving one left.

Allison - By far the best singer. She handled every category authentically and sounded great in the precess. She should have outlasted Danny and if the competetion were truly based only on singing ablilty, whe should have been the winner. Given her level of talent for her age, in a couple of years she will be scary good.

ADAM did great on ONE... and Crying... made those songs his own... every week he has game...
which is what the judges have always said makes a great artist better than everyone else... be on every week and make the songs your own...
If Adam is not in final two.. .who will care??? The other two singers are not memorable... The ratings will fall big time. Allison got out too early
but she will do fine with out the idol contract... Adam would also do fine with out the contract... the other two??? maybe, maybe not...

Absolutely. Hell, Adam was the one that said how great the other guys did. While Gokey was talking about his horrible dancing. I'd rather see Adam stick his tongue out than to watch Danny try to dance.

Adam is CONSISTENTLY good. He can get a little shrill, but "Whole Lotta Love" was amazing. His two songs last night were pretty incredible too. I liked that he did "Crying" and the U2 song was really good, but like someone else said, I'm just not a huge U2 fan.

I think Danny has a good voice, but he screams WAY too much and sometimes the "gravel" in his voice sounds more like a gargle.

Kris is a really good all around artist.

For me, the winner has to be Adam. I do think he's the most original artist American Idol has ever had and the best male contestant in the history of AI.

I agree. I LOVED him at first. But I've been less and less impressed as the weeks go by.

Didn't I tell you that the teenagers have WAY too much time on their hands??? This is exactly why I have been thrilled that Lost was up against the results show each week, because I'd hate to sit through an hour of crap just to end up pissed off in the end.

I predict it will be Kris winning this one, just because I identify with his style the *least*, and that's been the way it has gone from the second year onward. The only one that won that I thought should win was Kelly Clarkson.

I do believe this is the last year that I will get sucked into this nonsense.

One thing that I really noticed during the visits to their hometowns was that both Kris and Adam are really nice people. I will be happy if either one of them wins because I know they will both be successful no matter the outcome.

I don't know what it was about Danny, but he really turned me off -- cocky or something. Trying to cover Dream On just seemed to be the height of arrogance to me.
