So to that end, I will get serious for a minute. I think I see both sides of this argument. I see and respect that Andrew doesn't want this place to become a den of hatred towards the band....preventing positive discussion from taking foothold.
It really strikes a chord that there appears to be (or has been) a massive fear of Assoff's office and the PRBS (the Pinoy Race-Baiter Strike Force, that so effectively pissed it's cancer into the journey-net a few years ago)....That's just too bad.
Point A - correct
Point B - Not correct.
But you do get it....I just want dicussion (for or against) to be done without calling the band members names. It simply kills the point of the argument in the first place and dimishes any credibility to the point trying to be made.
Um, Andrew, with respect...I think you're missing my point B...and to that extent, you're wrong.
You may think that I am mentioning Point B in reference to you...I'm not. You know for a fact that this issue resonated throughout journey-net (meaning *all* of the public journey boards)....not just this one. So to that end, I *am* correct...to what extent I am correct here...well, I'll speak with absolute certainty that the PRBS ran (runs) rampant here with reckless abandon....I'm not going to touch the other side of it, only to say that the assoff vice squad tried to shut my board up a few times....I can't possibly imagine my little shitty, completely insignificant board (and those of you that remember it, know it WAS shitty and it WAS insignificant) was the only board in journey-net that didn't get a 'letter.'
It is what it is...there was a damage control effort out of Nomota, post-JSS. That's for certain.....
However, getting back onto point....having a firm policy of non-disparaging comments towards band members will only end up badly. For music discussion to work, it needs to be free and open....meaning positive AND negative. If things are too negative, an un-stated policy of privately squelching (not squashing) such discusion is far healthier.
Bands and Artists DO release crap and do make crappy decisions....being able to discuss the human, non-musical reasons behind such crap...is most definitely and most relevant to the good online discourse. If a guitarists drinking habits, sexual misconduct or height is responsible for such crap, well then, it *should* be talked about....
There's a reason why the Journey sub-board here has been SO successful for the past several years...and it's NOT because of squashed discussions....
I emplore you to reconsider such a course of action. Back Talk is a pair of undies that doesn't look good on most people....
