I couldn't get it to play.........Rick what did you do?

It's a very large file, so when you click on it, the computer is going to download it before it plays it. Just give it the time it needs to download it. Or, optionally, you can click on the link with the right mouse button and select "Save Target As" and save it somewhere on your computer and play it from your newly downloaded file.

You can use this link -> Dreams ;)

Oh, Susie! I love it more than the original. That was one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard! I will never sing as well as you and I am so envious! Girl you have a beautiful sultry voice..........gorgeous! You are one of my favorite female singers now..........I hope you know this! :D

The song has a haunting melody when you sing it..........very inspiring.......the kind of thing I listen to when I zone into my art...........I am going to play it a bazillion times while I work at home................  8) 8)

Thanks everyone.

Brywool - yep those notes bugged me, 'cause in my head they sounded shrill and not nice. But as no one else has picked up on it, I guess it's just me being paranoid. We use high quality backing tracks for the jazz show [piano, bass and drums] and Andy plays live sax, percussion, keyboards and blues harmonica over them while I sing live,
but for the dancy crap which we only do because we have to in order to get the work, we use a mix of midi and others, whatever we can get. The Dreams track isn't of the best quality, I know. But in this climate we just aren't earning the money from gigs to justify having every track made to our spec like the jazz ones were.

Rick - I think I tend to jazz up everything I do, that jazz is in my blood.

MBPL - thanks for the comments. Check out the myspace for more songs. If my singing brings you as much pleasure as all your hilarious posts have brought me, then I'm happy.

Ginger - thanks for your comments, too, now do that homework and go for it, girl.
And if you go to the myspace adresses you will hear more songs, too. They should just play without you having to do anything technical.

GI Jim - ha haaaaaa, you got spelling lessons from stevew2. This thread was worth starting just for that!!!! Have yu finished that wall?

stevew2 - don't EVER change!

Gunbot - I'm so glad you liked it. This track was bought, learned and performed with you in mind. BUt Johnny Mathis? Really??

That was great, SusieP! There are a couple times where it sounds a little sharp on "when" in this line..."players only love you when their playing"... but maybe its because I'm listening on headphones and it stands out a little bit due to the lower softness during the rest of the song. Overall very well done! You have a fantastic voice and you sound sultry here, which I'm sure you've been told before and know thats a good thing. :)

I'll work on that, thanks.

We played it at last night's gig. Opened the show with it and it seemed to be well received. So the more I sing it, the better I will get.

I know my lower tone is my best area, but if I sang EVERYTHING low it would be boring for me and the audience - but I hear that shrill sound in my head and I don't like it! But non of us are perfect.

Aww thanks Gordon - I know you are a huge Stevie Nicks fan, so that's praise indeed.

A talent show??? Are you serious?

Those judges would buzz me after one second. All they want are girl singers who look like Beyonce and sing like Mariah Carey.
Any over 40 and not conventionally beautiful and over a size 6...........forget it.

Although the world do seem to have taken to Susan Boyle, but I think she is a one-off.

If you look at the Myspace links I've put in my sig, on the www.myspace.com/susiepjazzsinger one there is a version of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" and Tracey Chapman's " Baby Can I Hold You Tonight" - also my version of the Journey song everyone hates............."Open Arms" plus a few jazzy type ones.
I'd love to know what you think.

I do always try to sing as me.
I think it makes it tougher if you try to sound like the original singer. To me, songs should be interpreted in your own way.

And I always TRY to do that. Whether I succeed or not...dunno.

Hows your throat anyway?

I am afraid that nothing about me compares to Andrea Corr. She and her sisters were definitely at the front of the line when beauty was being given out.

And sadly I can't play any instruments. Except my vocal chords.
The partner I work with plays sax, keyboards, percussion and drums, though, so hopefully the audience have something to watch.

I don't think he is a bad guy, I just think his musical knowledge is questionable.
All this talk of the pressure Susan is under, lets look at it another way...........
All Susan has to do is rest in her Hotel room, get herself showered and dressed, get into a car, go to the Theatre, soundcheck TWO songs, have her hair and make up done, then sing two songs to standing ovations and be taken back to her Hotel.

She doesn't have to drive herself to the gig, do her own lights, sound mixing and perform for a couple of hours then get herself back home in the early hours of the morning. NO worries about cables going down, or light bulbs blowing or speakers blowing etc.

All her expenses are paid - so, the question is, if she cannot handle what she has to do, then maybe Simon and his team HAVE made a big mistake in shoving her into the limelight.............. BUT, what could they do? She is a 48 year old woman, an adult, responsible enough to live on her own without carers and she entered the show. She has seen other entrants in the past get Press coverage, so she must have had a tiny hint that she might get featured in the newspapers.

But I don't think she or Simon & his team could have known that she would become a global superstar overnight.
So,
short of giving everyone who enters a psych test, I don't see how he could have handled it any different , really.

I think she needs some medical help though and soon. She obviously can't cope.

Gunbot wrote:I wish I could see one of your shows. What were you doing 15 years ago when I was moping about in Cambridgeshire?

15 years ago I was working in a bank. Singing with some mates in a band that never got any gigs. Doing bit parts in amateur musical theatre.
Then twelve years ago I had my foot severed in an accident. It took me two years to get that all fixed and to recover. I finally made the decision to take the plunge and sing for my living. I reduced my hours at the Bank and gradually built up my gigs. Got an Agent, teamed up with Andy [ www.myspace.com/jonesyuk ]
and now I am a full time singer with him.

Its getting tougher now. We've had ten years of gigging 3 and 4 nights a week. Now we are lucky to get 2.
So I am seriously thinking I may have to go back to a day job...............but I don't want to.

yuk.

We'll try and get some of our shows filmed.
Or a rehearsal maybe.
There are some crappy videos on the myspace but they aren't very professional.
One day we'll film an actual show.

Simon is now admitting that she wasn't handled properly. Very rare acknowledgement of him actually making a mistake.

You never know. Look at Savage Garden. Their career just gets started, they're on top of the world and Daniel Jones just quits because he can't handle being famous, leaving Darren Hayes screwed. :(

Susie - i have never heard you sing before - you have a lovely voice and you did that beautifully!
Seriously woman - get yourself on a tv talent show!

Aww thanks Gordon - I know you are a huge Stevie Nicks fan, so that's praise indeed.

A talent show??? Are you serious?

Those judges would buzz me after one second. All they want are girl singers who look like Beyonce and sing like Mariah Carey.

They do say be careful what you wish for.

And I would hate all that Press scrutiny.

I just want to make a living from singing. I love to do it and I just hope it gives people pleasure to listen.

The fame stuff........no thanks.

Although some decent money and a bit of pampering would be nice.

Simon's article was very insightful to the show and addressed a lot of critcisms re children on there. Regarding Susan he admitted some mistakes but still said he doesn't know what he could have done differently with her. He met with her family before the last show when they realized she was having probems and said should she just not go forward. They said absolutely she should. The show ensured she had a close friend with her at all times and other accomodations. He said he realized after the show ended watching her face upon losing that she was not equipped to handle losing. He went to her and told her this was not over, he would make a record with her, etc. He then met with her whole family about the tour, and they said she wanted to do it and it's what she's dreamed of. They told her she didn't have to do the tour, and it was finally decided she would go on it but only sing on the nights she felt up to it. So he said these nights that she doesn't go on they have no problem with. Simon really spoke from the heart, to me, very honestly in the article, which was extremely long, about what mistakes he or the show has made this year.

The only other thing Simon and his team could have done was to talk to her about the possibility of her not winning - but no one saw that coming.
So how could anybody have pre empted that and acted accordingly before it happened? We all thought she would win.

If they don't learn from this, THEN they will be bad guys.

They can't psych assess every auditionee.
But they can offer counselling, mentoring, guidance and support for everyone.

And I think they will.

Who would ever have thought that a lady like Susan Boyle would attract this kind of attention? Nobody.

So I think Simon and his team have done their best up to now, and now they see how Susan is handling it, they will change their tactics but will continue to help her.
