Hey... ya'll can shut it too! I missed good Journey, I missed Thriller, I had to grow up in the 90's with all those slouchy, greasy, grungers and cheesy rappers, and bad rock. And I still can't rent a car without paying an extra $25/day! And I guarandamntee you my driving record and ability is better than 97% of the general 25+ populous. Never fear, I have a birthday in six weeks... I'm getting older too. But you don't see me bitchin' about it.

We had a floor model console TV when I was a wee tot, and we didn't own a Betamax, we rented ours along with the Beta tapes from the video store! ...And after the divorce my Mom found the money for a brand new VCR, which in those days was $400, if I remember right. Now they're what... $15, if you can even find one anymore.

Not true. Last number I heard he sold 422,000 albums (including digital downloads) since his death. The real sign of change in the music landscape is that he sold over 2 million individual tracks.

They're saying on the radio this morning that those numbers aren't accurate because of the way the digital sales are reported and the numbers are more than double that. We'll see how it shakes out in a few weeks.

I wonder if a lot of people are like me, and were big MJ fans in childhood, but lost interest or forgot about him after the 1993 controversy. Then realized on June 25th that they missed the music. I had Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad on vinyl. Those three plus Dangerous on cassette, and a long lost VHS. Hence the massive consumption of sales.

Funny thing is last night I was on the drunk train on my way home from school last night out of San Francisco, and the train was packed with kids between 15 and 22 years of age, the Giants game just let out. All these fucking kids were just hollering and being shitheads the entire hour ride out. They talked an incredible amount of shit, but one thing for sure, not one of them mentioned MJ at all. Matter of fact, many of the kids were singing songs, none were MJ's. So who was MJ's fan base? None were in the four fully loaded train cars last night that's for sure.

I ordered Blood on the Dance Floor and Invincible from Amazon, and I'm sure I'm not the only one went after those, but none of the articles I have seen about his sudden booming album sales even mention those.

Well, Invincible is kind of a random album that flew under the radar because of his mortal battle with Tommy Mottola and Sony, they didn't push the album, or really market it. Blood is an obscure almost concept album of dance mixes that unless you really know your shit, you're not going to be familiar with... unless of course someone tells you how awesome it is ( ). My BOTDF is backordered for shipment on the 24th. Invincible was backordered, but I just got word it will ship tomorrow.

I can totally believe all these sales. And it's almost heartwarming to see people still realize the sanctity of physical music. People have to think I'm crazy buying up all this stuff recently, but with many of the titles I realize, if I don't buy them now... they will be out of print and unavailable on down the line.

Plus, its like my Mom saved all her vinyl for me, so I'm saving all my valued CDs for my kids. Obsolete or not, it's still a cool tradition.

If the rest of it is as good as the title track then yeah! You were not wrong on this one.

But to my way of thinking, even though these flew under the radar, when you search for MIke on Amazon and B&N, etc., these choices still come up, and even if you search a certain album, say you search only Thriller, you still get the "also by this artist" choices, so I would imagine there are people who are hot on the trail of the other ones that see these and click "add to cart" as well, so I'm just wondering what kind of sales these are realizing.

Mine aren't shipping for another 2-3 weeks.

Billboard reports that 82% of the Jackson albums sold this week were CDs (vs. digital downloads). Last week, 43% of the Jackson albums sold were CDs. I think this shows that on a special album, people want the CD as a keepsake. (What a retro concept!)


I used to have actual MJ albums. Man I wish I had kept them!
