Hell yeah. I am a Journey fan because of Arnel. I'm proud of it and always honest about it.

Kudos to Neal for hiring Arnel.

How old are you???? Am I correct in assuming that you never listened to Journey before AP?

I knew "Open Arms" Didn't know the singer/band though ( that was then).

By the way, I am old and chubby...

...and deaf.

I'd say not. Arnel has great moments just as Perry did.

C'mon. Not even close.

Yeah I was going to make that point too.....or a least suggest a good long listen to the Greatest Hits CD, but I guess if you are deaf it would not help would it

There are people who still don't know that there's a band called Journey to date  .... plus I listened to Survivor and Led Zep, Aerosmith and Scorpion at that time.

I like AP too. He's done a pretty amazing job so far and I'm a longtime fan and certainly not deaf.

I do like all the Journey eras some better than others, but everyone in the band past and present deserves credit for thier contributions. :D

infinity, evolution, departure, captured and escape was an incredible stretch of great albums for me.frontiers, raised on radio and trial by fire had plenty of great moments but i prefer rollie over cain for some reason the band rocked harder with gregg.

Captured is still my all-time favorite Journey album. Maybe it just the fact that it's live. :D

first compact disc i ever bought in 1989 when i got my first CD player was captured.i was really surprised it was on one disc.thought it might be a double.my friend asked me why i liked that old shit when i came out of the store with it and hell this was in '89.captured is the perfect album in my opinion.

I never knew Arnel, my relatives were raving about him and they were so stoked that an American band hired him. I checked him out on you tube and was amazed how well he covered my favorite songs and I followed him since then out of curiosity. I found myself watching his cover songs every night. In other words, I became an avid fan. Then I focused on Journey and started checking out their songs. I was like "wow that was good" hearing song after song. I didn't realized that they have so many great songs. And I feel in love with Neal Schon in the process.

In the past eras I personally like Edge of the Blade, Rubicon, One More, Separate Ways and Escape.

Other than Faithfully, I find the ballads from the Augerie years more appealing like, Knowing That You Love Me, Loved By You and All The Way.

Of course their careers aren't completely parallel; Perry has had a lot more successes of greater caliber, but then again, his career is 20x the length that of Arnel's. You have to look at it proportionally, rather than straightforwardly.

Of course. If Journey had stopped after Rolie left the band, they wouldn't be remembered as they are now. Two or three multiplatinum albums with five or six Top 20 hits of ORIGINAL material is really what is needed to create a legitimate legacy. Arnel just doesn't have time on his side. Its not like Van Halen, where Sammy could come in and just catapault the band to fame as if their previous albums didn't even exist. Journey is to old to start from scratch like VH did, and having to re-record the older songs didn't allow for the same type of separation from the past that Arrival did for Augeri. None of it is Pineda's fault and unlike Hagar, AP isn't even trying to create a new legacy, rather continue to honor the one aready established.

Exactly. There's just no way of looking at the two on the same coordinate plane, pardoning my geometry reference.

your right.heck at the time van halen was barely eight years old and had just had its best selling album yet plus sammy solo stuff was pretty hot too.that was a win win situation for the band and hagar.when arnel came in journey was over thirty years running already with its peak years decades behind them so there was no momentum there for arnel.

You have good taste,Augeri did put out some good tunes on Arrival, although there was not much promotion, the band was proud of that Cd,till it didnt go nowhere, and said fuck it when it didnt sell.Shame it was a new direction for the band, with some sounds from the past also.
