Since they are not playing in Phoenix this year I am making the trip to Tucson where there is no opening act. It will be interesting to see how long they play that night. There isn't many venues they are playing where they are by themselves. I would like to see Night Ranger though.

Could be the nature of the concerts they've been playing lately. They need something that rocks a whole lot harder than IBAWY (my personal favorite) and GCHI for these shows.

Open Arms seems to be dodging the setlist ax, while WDILYL and WIN have been removed. Who knows why they do what they do.

I LOVE I'll Be Allright Without You and GCHI is pretty good too. I've heard both plenty of times from Frontiers, never from Journey (I would sure love to see Neal play that IBAWY solo once in person...). Not too big a fan of Deen on IBAWY, though, and he's the one who usually ends up singing it...

both tracks are instantly forgetable...there to make up the tracks on an album..............but there again tracks that don't register with the majority some may like. Let's for example say Sing for the Day by Styx.....never really given the light of day until a few years back when they re-introduced it to their set list....you wouldn't have that track high on your agenda as far as concert tracks go but it worked. IMHO those Journey tracks are just too crap though...lightweight

See, I Think the sound of those along with Suzanne fit Arnel's voice a lot better than Deen's. Perry was not only developing grit at that point but also a hint of baritone. Deen just stays on the upper atmosphere with no oomph at all when he sings. WITS or Good Morning Girl/ Stay Awhile are the songs I can see Deen really doing a good job on.

My son, who was born in 1980 grew up with us listening to ROR in my boat. He always loved that album and to this day has the cd and listens to it. I wonder how many of the kids that were born in the 80s would really appreciate hearing more ROR songs live?

, and he wasn't wrong. Differences of opinion. Neal is a rocker. That album was very pop. Many longtime fans don't care for ROR, many, many, even here on MR. I love many songs on it, but some not, and just not a favorite album for me. And I believe it would have sold more if it had rocked a little more. To me, it would have been better if it was a little less poppy and Neal had been more involved in the direction of that album. Love so many of the songs but hate some of the bass and keyboard on it, could have had more of a soft rock sound instead of pop to go with the songs.

Agreed about the bass Jana, Ross was SORELY missed on the ROR record.
Bass was too bumpy, loud, conspicuous.
I do Like Larrie Londin's hard-hitting power drumming, though. More like Deen than Steve Smith.
But overall LOVE that album (though GREAT to finally here Be Good To Yourself with the right Journey bass, VALORY'S, on Revelation.)

I like the up front bass on the RoR BGTYS... especially during Neal's famous outro.

It's unabashedly 80s sounding, but it makes for a nice change of pace here and there. I wouldn't want every album having that kinda sound. Another example: Dream Theater's "breakthrough" album, Images and Words, is famous (infamous maybe) for its triggered snare drum sound - giving that 1992 album an instantly "dated" sound and offending drum purists. But, I've always liked the triggered snare on that album, even though it undoubtedly dates the album... it's just part of the sound that I've gotten used to for those songs. But I'm glad it's not the sound they use every album.

Cain has written more songs for other artist than he has for Journey. At least one song was in fact written for Kenny Rogers (Full Circle).

He has so much material out there.

I don't think AATY has any resemblence to a country song. It is a sentimental song as a lot of songs Cain has written Faithfully, Open Arms, WCTNGOF, and many many more. Why pick on him for this? What should he be writing about?
