8/31: Heart & Journey Rock Out
How much live arena rock can you handle? Heart? Journey? Both on the same stage?
By ELIZABETH BOUGEROL
Updated 4:15 AM EDT, Mon, Aug 31, 2009

TWOFER: Is Journey really Journey now that vocal deity Steve Perry is being played by Filipino YouTube discovery Arnel Pineda? Debatable. Heart, on the other hand, remains as epically awesome as ever (Nancy and Ann Wilson, we bow to you). The double feature rocks Nassau Coliseum at 7PM.[/url]

Ridiculous claim that Arnel plays Steve Perry. He plays himself singing some songs that SP once sang. Where do these idiotic writers come from?

When Pineda writes 90% of the set list they perform, then maybe he can play himself. Until then, sorry to say, he is just a cover singer. Truth is hard to get your hands around here sometimes, but you must try. Further proof why Journey should have ceased and changed their name and started anew. This will haunt them FOREVER.

PS- You can still get 11th row dead center on day of show. Yikes.

Well, let's see what the writer has to say after the show. Pineda seems to have a way of winning people over once they've seen him do his thing live and in person.

(Note: this is in no way meant to be construed as an endorsement of Arnel Pineda, my loon credentials remain firmly in tact)

I got front row center for Louisville six days before the show, and there was still 16,000+ at Freedom Hall.

I don't get the small print disclosure. Why can't you say something nice about Arnel...even like him and appreciate his singing and still like Perry too? :? This whole loyalty thing...the split in the fan base...the I have to watch what I say so some people I like won't get pissed at me....all of that is a bunch of crap. Shoot....everyone here likes more music then Journey's so why can't people accept that someone may like more then one person who has sang in the band? Geesh...of course everyone has their preferences but feeling that one can't say something nice about another of the singers on here is ridiculous. If you have something nice to say then don't apologize for it...say what you think because if someone is going to judge you on what you just said and take it that your now "anti-Perry" they would be mighty small minded.

Good post. That's the way I feel too. I loved Journey with SP in it and I love Journey now. What's wrong with that? Some people simply won't have it both ways and can't get over the past enough to enjoy the present and the future. It's sad really...the music lives on and is represented by good talent. Arnel does justice to the songs and makes it a fun experience to watch a show. One reason I can still enjoy it is because I don't let what certain band members have allegedly done in the past cloud my experience. It's all about the music. Realizing I am not without fault myself makes it easier to forgive others for their shortcomings.

Leave Jubes alone. She's okay for a looney loon. She has a sense of humor and is sarcastic, even to the loons. I like that in a loon.

I don't really bash him, but I don't fucking worship him either. He's human. If you call me calling him on the fact that he has pretty much turned his back on the fans and pretty much dropped off the entertainment radar, etc., then I guess I'm a basher by that definition. I love the music the man sang and I don't deny his talent, but outside of listening to my old CDs I also like to live in the present.

Deciding to step out of the spotlight and live a quite private life is not " turning his back to the fans"... he doesn't " owe us" anything. Seems in almost every interview he has done he still continues to appreciate his fans.

Well, let's see what the writer has to say after the show. Pineda seems to have a way of winning people over once they've seen him do his thing live and in person.

(Note: this is in no way meant to be construed as an endorsement of Arnel Pineda, my loon credentials remain firmly in tact)

Not a damn thing...so why do you bash SP every chance you get?!?!?

Good Post, BS!!

Deciding to step out of the spotlight and live a quite private life is not " turning his back to the fans" he doesn't " owe us" anything. Seems in almost every interview he has done he still continues to appreciate his fans.

Ok, well for whatever reason, he's not around. He quit. Anyway, back to the present.....

It was his right to quit if he wanted to....just like it would be your right to quit whatever it is you do if you wanted to. I don't think he turned his back to the fans ..I think some fans are just resentful that he quit..they wanted more and think about what they want first...not what he wants and what may be the best for him.

And frankly, I don't care...it is his life. I am / was a fan of what he brought to us. One of the best singers of our time and if that's not bashing SP, I'll eat my lunch.

Oh for fucks sake. Deano's right, and you folks know it. Until Arnel is either singing a majority of his own shit up there with Journey or has a tenure longer than 4 years, he's just a hiring. plain and simple.

For the record, I live within a 1/2 mile of Nassau Colosseum, can get any seat I want in this place...and I am looking forward to staying home and listening to some Dream Theater while I solder some electronics....seen much better singers of this material on numerous occasions. No need to waste any more time on this crap...

and your point is? This band is never going to reach the status they once held in the 80's....doesn't matter if it's new material being sung or not. Heck, even in the 80's they had the numbers in attendance but were panned by the critics.....so they should just do what they are good at and like to do for as long as they want to and those that want to enjoy it should. Have fun soldering and since you won't be joining in here any more since you've decided it's a waste of time, all the best to you and take care. :D

No need to. He sings the old songs to the delight of the fans. Shows that the band's importance lies in the collective efforts of all members and that's its about the music, and not one man.

Rockindeano wrote:Until then, sorry to say, he is just a cover singer.

Let's explore why he's (Arnel) a cover singer. Perhaps it's because the "original" singer has spent 20+ years trying to come to terms with the fact that he can't sing the songs anymore and he's done everything in his power to thwart the continuance of Journey.

Rockindeano wrote:Truth is hard to get your hands around here sometimes, but you must try.

No one is more deluded than a guy that once claimed a very mediocre singing Jeff Scott Soto performed at a level that was "better than anything Perry ever did."

Rockindeano wrote:Further proof why Journey should have ceased and changed their name and started anew.

Actually, they tried that with Chalfant and Rolie (Journey And Beyond?), but a certain lying ex-member came back because he suddenly wanted back in.  He recorded and bailed. Put the blame on him.

Rockindeano wrote:This will haunt them FOREVER.

Suuuure it will. An album that was in the Top 40 for 15 weeks, 700,000 in sales, a Top 40 tour last year, a new DVD coming out, a new album early next year and a huge tour to follow. Boy, they're fucked.

Rockindeano wrote:PS- You can still get 11th row dead center on day of show. Yikes.

Nice to see that you still "couldn't care less about Journey."
