Get the extended version of "La Raza Del Sol" back in the set!!! come on who agrees with me? Absolutely phenomenal live song. I've got that chapter of the DVD on repeat right now as I work on my international relations homework. Great music.

Hell yeah, always wanted to see that one live. Not "greatest hits" enough for some, though.

Well, Neal was in Santana. So there is some very minor
Latin influence that came with Neal and Rolie.

I'm VERY aware of Neal's background in Santana. It was a million years ago when they still thought the world was flat! I'll give you the "very minor" influence from way back when, but the band that became known as Journey didn't have anything remotely close to a "Latin influence"!

The "La Raza Del Sol" on the Arrival Live DVD is one of my all-time favorite pieces of music.

It would be amazing to hear that live.

One of my favorite bits from the 2001 DVD. I'm bettin' AP could really handle this. SA did an awesome job and I loved watching JC in this one as well as the rest of the band.

I heard Bruce recorded his last live DVD with a roll of duct tape and two unidirectional mics from Vaudeville circa 1932... how did he get that amazing DTS fidelity? He must be just that good!

Don't be a dickhead...I was talking honestly. SA re recorded this DVd in studio. I never brought up Bruce, however, his latest DVd is the best sounding DVD, Live in Barcelona, by anyone without any touching up whatsoever. 100% raw live. LOL, as for his equipment- Last wek, he got pissed at his crew during the show; Trying to shine a spotlight on a fancy made sign for a request, he said, "we got a million dollars worth of shit up here and we can't shine a fuckin light on these good people."

I'm not looking to square off on this, but I'm not sure I buy this in its entirety. There's some moments that SA had during that DVD that a half-drunk producer wouldn't let get past him without an overdub. Ask The Lonely is filled with them. I suspect it's more the case that things were overdubbed and fixed in the studio.....to what extent is probably where the question lies. I couldn't weigh in on that with any level of knowledge. I just feel that there are certain points on that DVD that, if given the opportunity to fix (in the entirety) in the studio....would not have been presented on the dvd as it currently stands.

Having said there, there isn't a live album recorded these days that doesn't receive some level of studio magic. Case in point was the Right Here Right Now live DVD/CD that Van Halen did in 1994. According to lore, Alex's drum set did not translate to tape very well during the 2 nights they recorded..and despite Andy Johns' best efforts, he simply couldn't get the drums to sound right when they went back to mix it.

So, IIRC, their solution was to use literally re-record the snare drum, as it blasted through PA speakers in EVH's racketball court....stick a mic at the other end of the court, and pipe that signal back to the mixing console. That, and of course the various vocal overdubs and redos....

It seems to me that your intention is to make the Arrival DVD out to be a sort of "Kiss: Alive" record....which *were* "live" records that were simply recorded in the studio and given the benefit of an "audience cheer track." I'm not so sure that was the case with the arrival dvd. It does appear that the music and a percentage of the vocals were indeed recorded in that building that night, but they brought the tracks back to San Francisco to fix the really bad spots.

Granted, I could be fooled here...but I've spent enough time in both the live music and recording worlds to feel that it's more along the lines of overdubbed errors instead of an outright studio recording....

BTW, Congrats on kicking the bottle. You're a better man than I. I can't last 6 days!

There are live albums that are pure untouched live, but I think a lot of them these days are smaller labels, or the ingenious record show and sell recording to audience. I'm not disagreeing that a lot of albums are touched up (see Journey's Greatest Hits "Live"), but there are a few rare ones out there.

For that reason alone, that's the reason I'm not all that thrilled with "live" albums. Give me a good sounding bootleg any day. If I'm getting a live album, I want a LIVE album--not something that has been perfected to the point of losing all atmosphere and energy.
