The PR caveat here is crucial. I don't believe SP is anywhere near the household name that we think he is. There is no comparison between him, and say, Whitney Houston whose #1 debut I think is the origin of this question.

He's not a household name. Just the way it is. I say it won't sell as many unless he really gets behind it and tours or does some performances.

I would love it if he did this...![]()

He can make himself one very quickly in this day and age, however. Like Deano mentioned in another thread, if he got on American Idol, did a guest night promoting his album, got on there and sang DSB with one of the top contestants and what not, the album would sell so fast it wouldn't even be funny, especially if he threw a re-record on there.

Perry would never do this. He respects the legacy and the catalog too much, unlike his blood sucking "brothers" who just need more money to renovate the Open Arms pool and pay a handful of ex-wives monthly.

Revelations didn't sell because they toured Jana. It sold because of Pinoy nation. That is fact.

The songwriter can do what ever he wants with them also as he gets paid for the usage regardless. Go for it Steve, re-record the whole catalog if you want. Mix in Oh Sherrie and some other solo hits and let it fly.

But I think you're missing the point. I believe Steve feels that rerecording them would hurt the legacy. I'd agree.....The retreads that Journey pissed down our throats is a defecation on the legacy of the music.
Could you see Led Zeppelin rerecording stairway to heaven with Jason Bonham? It would piss all over the legacy of the original. That's what Journey has done with the retreads. They took some fucking noname off of youtube....slapped him in front of a mic of shitty pre-recorded tracks.....slapped it on a disc...and cheated their way to platinum....
So the point is...I think it's not a case of whether or not Steve Perry CAN re-record his music.....but more so, SHOULD he.
Just because a man can stick his dick into the cornhole of his neighbor's retriever....it doesn't mean he should!
