To all of you here - God bless your hearts. I hope each of you stays healthy and safe.

My heart has been beating smoothly all of my life and I've chosen a healthy diet/lifestyle many years ago but the one thing I wasn't capable to do is to stop smoking. :(
I never smoked more than 15 per day in my worst phases, but still...I need to stop altogether.

Thanks, *Laura - I get a lot of help from somewhere and always manage to survive. I have not had one prob with my heart since. The doc even said that there was no damage to the heart muscle and I don't have to go back for 6months.

Now, young lady, about your smoking habit

Do they really have any definitive way of knowing?

But I am mainly posting to reaffirm if you are feeling weird or having any kind of problems, DO NOT WAIT. My dad had an episode when he walked around the block at work a few years ago, he had a history of cholesterol and hereditary heart disease, he went in, he had 3 blocked arteries (two were 100% blocked). Needless to say he got the triple bypass he needed and is doing excellent today. Its' just not worth chancing it.

Yes, don't anyone assume anything - always get to the doctor first. My sister was 42 when she started having arm pain & thinking it wasn't anything serious...her son convinced her to get to the doctor and sure enough she was having a heart attack. She then had to have bypass surgery. She was always skinny and you wouldn't think of heart attack for her but she was a heavy smoker since she was a teen. Needless, to say she was forced to quit smoking & hasn't smoked since.

mother told me today that after my sister was born she was diagnosed with murmurs.also that me,my mother and brother all have the rapid heartrate that happens.my sister nor my father have these problems.i think it might do people good sometimes to check into and ask about family history.one more thing i didn't think was connected to all of this until i looked into it recently was thyroid.i was told by a doctor one time that i had hyperthyroid and when i looked that up it said you can have palpitations from that.i also love cold weather and thats another sign according to the symptoms.next doctor visit i have i'll get them to recheck my thyroid.the last doctor that told me this was years ago and i was dumb to ignore it.

In the past week I've cut out all caffeine, cut my salt intake in half (at least), been exercising more, relaxing more, sleeping more, and been avoiding alcohol.

I'm still experiencing anxiety flares and my blood pressure has WENT UP five points.

What the hell... I wish the job market didn't suck so I could actually get a job so I could get insurance and afford a regular doctor to find out what the hell is wrong with me....

MVP? They'd typically need a 2D echogram to dagnose it.
I had the same exact condition, diagnosed over two decades ago.
Congenital, but only became a palpable issue when I started living too hard.

When you exert yourself overmuch, the prolapsed valve prevents your
heart from generating enough push, so your heart hammers extra hard
to deliver oxygenated blood to your starved muscles. If your lungs
are in bad shape, it's even worse.

I get a 2d stress echo done every year just to monitor the situation, and
make it a point to get plenty of sleep. Study how to breathe properly,
and for fuck's sake reduce food intake (the smaller your belly, the
less pressure its weight will exert on your diaphragm and thence your
heart, when seated or lying down flat). Fiber rules, because if you can't
shit regularly, that's pressure on your heart again. Caffeine's a fucking no-no.

When I slowed down (read: got married), my situation improved a lot.
I still get the odd flutter now and then, but it's not as bad as before,

what happened with me when i was initially diagnosed with MPV it was in a very small county hospital.i went the next day to a big city doctor here in memphis.i went back a few times and even wore the 24 hour monitor holitzer and they said i did not have MPV thank goodness.i've went back a few times since and they say a lot of the reason for my anxiety and palpitations was i drank a ton of cokes, smoked like a fish plus i stayed stressed out.i'll admit i bring a lot of this on my self due to my poor habits which i'm trying to change.i no longer smoke but i still drink way too many cokes.i also stay anxious and stressed out a lot.i noticed here lately i slacked on my vitamins.if i take omega 3 fish oil regular it helps a lot.i'm the same as you once i got settled with a family the flutters didn't happen as much.

Everyday !! I have palpitations every single day many times a day but meds have made it better. They are scary and I have worn a 24 hour heart halter monitor twice. They cant find anything wrong and since I have suffered from anxiety most of my life it just gets chalked up to that.

Lower your caffeine intake 1st, lower your salt intake, drink more water and make sure you have your thyroid checked. I take meds for it and they help sometimes. It really is an extra beat even though it feels like a pause followed by a thud which would lead you to believe that your heart is pausing. Its not. Look up heart PVC's. I have been told again and again by docs not to worry as it is not life threatening. Still sucks !!

The best advice, seriously and this IS the best advice, better than any drug, etc, etc:

Train yourself to stop thinking about it. The more you think about it the worse off you will be. Do you sit around and feel your heart or "listen" to every beat? Stop doing that, just let it go. I know it's hard to do and can take a LONG time, days, weeks, months maybe even years. But you will gradually be able to mentally accept it as part of your life and then you will be fine. Relax, don't worry about it, go on with your life. Easy to say, hard to do, but worth trying. It took me years to finally accept the fact my heart is different, it beats loudly sometimes, it beats fast sometimes, it even flutters a bit now and then, but that's just the way my heart is. Live with it and relax, or you will truely be messed up for a long time and will ultimately cause REAL damage from stress.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I went a record 3 hours earlier without feeling my pulse... I'm going to do my best to do this.
