I was poundin some beers the other night with my buddy who I just recently found out is HUGE into Journey and we A-B'd it with 01. The verdict was unanimous: 01. The production on this disc just leaves a lot to be desired, even if you totally dig Arnel's performance... which I don't here.

Matt, so much of that 01 disc was 'canned' that it's going to be better. I also didn't think the new one too dark or anything either. I DID notice that the stage reminded me of the early zoo videos for some reason... ?
I wasn't just focusing on Arnel, but he stood out. His pitch was great, his ad libbing to me was fine, etc. I dug Neal's playing more on this one. I'd LOVE to have that compressor that he's got built into his Les Paul. Friggin' expensive!!!

Also, the extended versions of the songs made it for me. I was also more impressed by Castronovo's drumming that I was previously. Before, he just seemed 'a basher'. I like his playing on the Manilla show a lot. I still prefer Smith's approach, but Castro's doing fine.

I don't agree. The Eagles one mentioned was SO boring- 'nice' performance, but you might as well put on the records for how exciting it is. With the Manilla one, it was an energetic, fun show, though Cain looked like he was having a colonoscopy. Oh well. I will say that "the new super delux jumbo camera" or whatever it was really didn't look any better than anything else I've seen. If you're talking about the 5.1 and stuff, yeah, I wouldn't be able to answer that, but I know it's easier to do "LIVE" 5.1 when everything's re-recorded in the studio.

Maybe so about being canned and the quality level Bryan.

The darkness problem is only on certain angles of Neal... which as a guitarist trying to watch him fret the notes, sucks! But it's not as bad as some have said. My bigger gripes are with the audio. Backing vox are muddy at points and overall it just doesn't have a lot of girth/balls to my ears. It's not a live mix. It's a "cd mix." It's not electric to me. Don't know how I can explain it really.

My thoughts on Arnel's performance here are documented, no need to retread. It's not that I think he's bad, it's just that I'm disappointed that he hasn't corrected some of his issues.

The extended jams are great and will be THE reason I get this DVD out to watch it, other than rarities like WYLAW and TDTWT.

I assume you're talking about Neal's sustainiac? That thing is indeed really cool. I'd love to mount one of those bad boys on my MusicMan Luke.

And finally, yes, Deen is a fuckin monster.

Well, I mentioned The Eagles one. I'm talking about the production values - awesome on that DVD. And as far as it being exciting/not exciting, that's a question of performance and that's just how The Eagles do things. Henley and Frey hate each other and they're only in it for the dough... so yeah, that can impact your enjoyment of a show and it certainly did when I saw them for the second time last winter on the Long Road out of Eden Tour. I love the production on that DVD though. It sounds and looks worlds better than Manila.

"When You Love a Woman" was great. I was surprised that was on there.
Yeah, that deal in Neal's guitar, that is so cool. Cah-Ching!
And yeah, the sound on the Eagles one was great, but for me, I'd rather hear the live-ness of it. While the Eagles thing was crisp, it was so sterile that I couldn't stand it. That's just me, I know everyone else loved it.

That IS how they sound live though. Play to a strict click, nothing off the cuff, great harmonies, no improvising, very little re-arranging. Boring, but faithful, plus it's the way they've always been and they've always been knocked for it.

I knew she was full of it, so I called today. Got a very nice fellow on the phone who was happy to check for me. He came back, said they had it and was also very excited to tell me it was only 10.00! :D They only have 5 in stock so I asked him to hold one until tomorrow. He said they’re not allowed to hold merchandise overnight, but told me “I’m in my 40’s too (not sure how he knew I was  ) and I was a big Journey fan, so I understand – no problem!”. Now – I could be jumping the gun – let’s see if it’s actually there when I go to pick it up tomorrow.

I got the set today. On disc 2 now and so far it's a great show. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Lots of Revelation tracks.

Got it, watched it, loved it! Not disappointed at all :) .

I did hear last week that a tour deal for 2011 has been finalized. That's a hell of a long time for me to wait though.

Maybe they are worried about oversaturating the market? Styx has undoubtedly done this and has fucked themselves...

Honestly, I think it has to do with a lot of things...one of which is the Perry album that's supposed to drop. That, and I think they need a break and that they really want to take their time and create a really good album. Arnel needa a break, Jon's probably gonna help out his daughter with her career, Ross will fish, Deen will rest up, and Neal will go fucking stir crazy sitting at home. Hopefully, he jams with his son. That kid can play. I like his style more than Neal's these days. I'll try to post a picture of me and Miles if my friend still has it...and someone can walk me through how to post a picture.

I loved it the first time, the second time I feel like I wasted my money. But, Joe Walsh is almost worth the hefty price of admission alone - he's the only one who cuts loose and has fun up there and plays to the crowd.

Although Frey's trademark dedication of Lying Eyes is pretty funny... "This song goes out to my first wife.... Plaintiff." LOL

I agree, Cyclorama is a GREAT effort. I guess they just don't have the drive to create. That must be JY's call, because I think Tommy would love to do a new album and I suspect the other guys wouldn't mind doing it either. When did Cyclo come out anyway? Was it 01? 03? Cyclorama is a very, very good album. I'm a big fan. And it came out in 2003, because I remember they were supporting it on the Classic Rock's Main Event Tour with Journey and REO Speedwagon.

I knew it was either 01 or 03. I sometimes think 01 because Journey and Styx had their "come back albums" on each other's heels. Not to mention those two albums are two of my faves

You mean as far as touring? Yeah, Styx R E A L L Y needs to do a new NOT LIVE, NOT COVERS album. Their album Cyclorama is one of my favorites. I cannot believe that they're content with doing nothing new. What's the point?

I agree, Cyclorama is a GREAT effort. I guess they just don't have the drive to create. That must be JY's call, because I think Tommy would love to do a new album and I suspect the other guys wouldn't mind doing it either. When did Cyclo come out anyway? Was it 01? 03? It's been a long time I know that. Don't feel like lookin it up at the moment

Post 4000! Congrats!

Wow, i'm feelin old ;)

Haha...it is a bit strange to think of that number isn't it. It doesn't seem like I've hit that Submit button 1,500 times.

That's why you never pre-order. It doesn't mean you get it early (or even remotely on time). And with this DVD being a release that won't sell at a crazy rate, you're not in danger of not getting one if you go to the store and try to buy it on release day.

Alas there are no Walmarts in the UK.

What annoys me though is that if you pre-order something from Amazon for example, you get the stuff on the day it is supposed to be released (i.e. they ship it before the release date), Walmart shipped my DVD on the day release day itself so there is no way I would've gotten that on the actual day of the release.

Anyway, my copy arrived at my friend's house last Saturday. He sent it to me yesterday so I will just wait for it to cross the Atlantic and I'll probably get it before Christmas

And don't forget the post processing these boys are well known for. ;)
