More like he had everyone's balls and they didn't flinch for fear of losing him and all the success they were having with him. Arnel may end up commanding the same kind of control once he figures out he has the reins too.

What character trait has Arnel demonstrated to give you the impression that he would be willing, and more over, even capable of pulling a Perry in terms of control? The guy can't even stop singing Karaoke for God sake. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING he has shown has come close to demonstrating that he has the slightest ability to exert more control over anything. He looks like a kid in the candy store waiting for his mom and dad to tell him what he can buy, and when he has to leave. That is not a knock on him. It's just a realization that I think this guy is profoundly happy doing what he is doing, and nothing more.

Character trait! He is represented by competent legal counsel. He already owns a membership share of the LLC maybe. He's a survivor and should not be underestimated. Being humble doesn't mean he's stupid and his lawyer is already getting him his due. From employment contract to part owner. Not bad for a kid in a candy store.

You're not using common sense. Arnel will never feel he has the right to have a huge say in Journey as far as calling the shots and he now and will always defer to Neal who believed in him and fought for him. They will show him respect and incorporate some of his ideas as time goes on more and more of song choices or variations, but it's Neal and Jon's baby and that will never change. Arnel is too humble of a person to ever feel any differently regarding his place in this 30-something-year-old established band as far as trying to exert more control. Not even in the cards.

That doesn't represent control. That represents smart business decisions driven by his legal eagles. He can't exert control until he produces something more than singing like Perry. If he actually contributes to the writing of the upcoming album, and it does well, then he'd only need 3 or 4 more albums of hits to be in a position to 'take the reins'. I won't hold my breath.

edit: Also, what Jana said above is primary.

Even if we weren't talking about Journey here... if it was any other gig... a handshake is bad job security.
You don't hire a contractor to remodel your kitchen and agree to the quote and timeline with a handshake.
You don't buy a new car and instead of a lease agreement or loan contract have a handshake.

Signatures, documents, and contracts exist for a reason. People are untrustworthy in business. And without a contract Arnel has NO job security. Now, I'm not saying anything bad about him or about the band. See that. I'm just saying it's dumb.

No truer words ever spoken.

I think all this quite clearly points to SP returning to the band. One can come to no other logical conclusion...

Every day I hear one or two Journey songs on the radio. Sometimes they'll even identify the artist as Steve Perry and Journey instead of just plain "Journey". It's like he never left. I wouldn't sweat it Gator, ain't nobody in the media forgetting about Perry when it comes to Journey. Someone did a google trend chart on Arnel's site. Every time the search engine increases/ spikes for Journey/Pineda it increases also for Perry as one usually doesn't get mentioned without the other. They're intertwined for life.

At least with the stations I listen to, it's a good 70/30 for "Steve Perry and Journey" vs. just "Journey". Sometimes (and I swear this is true) they'll just mention Steve Perry. And the Arnel mentions have stopped too. Once in awhile they would mention the hubbub about having the new singer (while playing the Perry tracks) but I haven't heard that in awhile now.

The Revelation tracks are no longer being played - at least not on Sirius channels. I have the artists alerts on mine, so I get a beep when my saved artists play. Last summer I saw After All These Years for about 2 months in steady (not a ton, but steady) roatation. About a month ago, I saw Where Did I Lose Your Love for about a week. Other than that, nope. Nothing. It's all the old stuff.

Excerpt of interview of Bert de Leon, Arnel's manager and head of the agency, Sundance. Interview in 2008.

APIFS: As his manager, what is your role in his present career? What's different with your handling AP now with Journey when he was then with Zoo Band.

BDL: Arnel is now pretty much in the hands of Journey and the team…they've embraced him as one of the guys and they really take good care of him. My role is to see to it that Arnel is protected legally and contractually which is why we hired the services of an entertainment lawyer in LA to represent us in our dealing with Journey's management team and business firm. On the personal level, nothing much has changed between Arnel and myself…inspite of the distance, since I cannot be with him all the time now that he's on the road, we continue to communicate and I still give him advice on how to handle certain situations that he's not familiar with. A lot of things are new to him, in fact, even to me…so we make it a point to discuss and iron out any potential problems and we talk a lot about the future and how this great opportunity will change his and his family's lives in a positive way. We are not just the typical artist-manager relationship, we're more like brother to brother or even father and son in the way we deal with and feel for each other

We = Neal and Friga

I guarantee Friga and Fro's legal talent dwarfs this goof they hired for Arnel, think about the resource disparity.

Nobody here's forgetting him either. However, most are realistic enough to realize that it ain't ever gonna happen. Some, however, continue to still think it's 1983.

The relationship between Perry/Schon makes Waters/Gilmour look like BFFs. There's just no need to even try and fix it anymore. The Legacy is set in stone. Nothing either of the parties does from this point forward is going to change it.

EXACTLY. So why do people continue to beat the dead horse every day with every topic?? Get over it- it ain't happening. Move on. If you don't dig the new version, then why hang around, just to bitch about how it ain't "the good old days"? Sounds like my freakin' grandparents.... "Dang, remember when gas was a nickel???
