Any Supertramp Fans?

Postby Voyager » Sat Dec 19, 2009 7:05 pm

I got burned out with Breakfast In America, but before that these guys were the ultimate melodic rockers. Check them put playing "Dreamer" in this live video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mRe2CskIRQ

I bet they smoked a lot of weed while creating their music, but it rocks!!!

I love the "Crime of the Century" album, to me it is their best. I love Dreamer, title track and School. Man I wish they would reunite this band.

Goodbye Stranger - great song. The rest I barely listen to anymore - they never did much for me for some reason (and Roger always kinda creeped me out :? ).

Supertramp is downright horrible. I'd rather listen to Jon Denver on 78 speed than any of their tripe.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

ST, another band distinctive lead vocals. I've yet to hear anyone that sounds like Roger.

Very classic rock. :)

Until this thread I hadn't heard them in ages.

Supertramp...tripe???

Right...

Undoubtedly one of the best pop/rock bands of our time. Albums like Crime of the Century, Crisis? What Crisis?, and Even In the Quietest Moments are timeless in their diversity and pure songcraft. And it's easy to say one is "burned out" on Breakfast In America, simply because of the massive airplay it received.

I'd give my left nut to have Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies put their differences behind them, reunite the original band, and go out for one final fling.

When I saw them on the Breakfast... tour at the San Diego Sports Arena, it was sonically one of the best concerts I've ever heard, no small feat considering that venue has a reputation amongst sound engineers for absolutely horrible acoustics.

There was a clear "prog" influence in Supertramp's music as well. Here's a prime example: "Fool's Overture," the final track on Even In the Quietest Moments:...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iq1JcCenXWE

AND...the epic title track from Crime of the Century:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1CyMvA- ... L&index=12

Awesome! I had no idea they were playing in 2009. It would be awesome to see them. Roger's voice sounds excellent! The sax player rocked too.

Here's "Dreamer" from the same 2009 concert:
